"I carried your child," Danica pressed on, but the sharpness in her voice wavered now. "I'm your present—your real family. You promised to protect me, always. And now you are breaking that promise."
Gideon's temper snapped.
"I never broke my word," he roared, slamming his palm against the desk. The sudden bang made Danica flinch.
"You wanted to go abroad—I paved the way for you. You wanted to expand your company—I handled every obstacle. You said you wanted to raise Noel alone, and I let you take him away, even though I wanted my son by my side. Because of that decision, my mother is still angry with me. She looks at me like I failed as a father."
His eyes burned with fury, veins standing out along his clenched jaw. "And you dare say I didn't keep my promise?"
