"I'm heading back to my desk," Matthew replied. "Did you need something?"
"Yes… I—" She paused, then let concern cloud her features. "Gideon is taking the girl's death very hard. I'm really worried about him. Is he alright?"
"He is shaken," Matthew said honestly. "But he'll manage."
"Listen, I want to help him," she pressed insistently. "I know he is helping Summer now, and yes, it's good that he is letting go of the past. But he shouldn't forget what she did to him. She cheated on him, had a child with another man, and then faked her death just to make him suffer—to make him regret divorcing her. You saw it all. You saw how broken Gideon was because of that woman. And now he is still chasing after her. You should stop him."
Matthew looked at her silently, weighing her words.
In his heart, he knew it wasn't Summer who had destroyed Gideon. It was the lies, the manipulation, the unseen hand that had driven a wedge between Gideon and Summer. But he said nothing.
