An amusing thought ran through my mind, brief and misplaced, however before I could process it completely, the unnatural hit & hurt box vanished from where it had been moments ago, right before the dominating pupil's gaze, as well as mine.
My eyes hovered over the space instinctively, tracing where it had stood, expecting something, a delay, a distortion, a residue, but there was nothing.
Just empty air, as if it had never existed in the first place.
Then, in an instant, it reappeared.
Right in front of us.
Instinctively, I felt the urge to step backward, the reflex sharp and immediate, my muscles already tensing to obey it, but I refrained.
Moving here felt like an answer to a question I had not been asked yet, and I did not intend to volunteer one.
The outlines stood rigid, towering, almost human, imposing over me like a haunting figure that did not quite belong to the space it occupied.
