And it didn't matter anyway. What was the point? It wasn't like it had ever mattered to her anyway.
So what was he talking about?
"Maybe that is how life is for you—-"
"Answer my question." His voice cut into the room, as if he was done with her games.
The fury unleashed in her. "I do not need any reason, any advantages, anything in return. I need nothing. I do it all because he is my son. That is enough."
"That is not enough—"
"And I love him."
He nodded, as if they were getting somewhere. As if he was slowly leading her to an answer that even she did not know that she had.
"Because…"
Her frown deepened and now she could hear Arik's gentle breathing as if he was slowly slipping into sleep.
"He is my son. I am his mother. What other reason must there be?"
