Chapter 8 - The King Carved by Sacrifice

In the eternal tower that floated among silver mist,

Lady Avalon sat leisurely on a stone chair carved with fae runes.

Soft light from the dream-realm reflected along her flowing silver hair,

while a small phone hovered in the air before her, gently vibrating with a pale blue glow.

The cold, chiming tone of a Chat Group notification echoed softly in the space where time did not exist.

Merlin opened the screen, her eyes reflecting the holographic light that danced in the air.

---

[Irene Belserion]:

So what does "the body of Arthur Pendragon" mean?

Did he receive the body of a dead person?

Merlin raised an eyebrow, a faint smile on her lips.

"Oh-ho… this will be interesting," she murmured, sipping her cola slowly.

---

[Kuroneko]:

Hah?! You don't know Arthur Pendragon Prototype?

He's a famous character from Lady Avalon's world!

---

[Irene Belserion]:

Oh, so he's from that mysterious world of hers, huh?

You know, the only world Lady Avalon has never explained to us!

---

[Kuroneko]:

Eh? I haven't explained it?

---

[Irene Belserion]:

You idiot!!! You NEVER explained it!

Merlin held back a soft laugh.

"Ahaha, Irene truly hasn't changed. So expressive."

---

[Hatsune Miku]:

Kuroneko, now that I think about it, yes—

you actually never explained Lady Avalon's world~

We were curious, you know!

---

[Yamato]:

Yeah yeah! You haven't explained anything about Lady Avalon's world!

---

[Kuroneko]:

Ah, right! I was forbidden back then!

Lady Avalon told me not to talk about it!

---

[Irene Belserion]:

You little brat!!!

---

[Kuroneko]:

Uaaa! I'm sorry!

I'll explain it now!

But… is it alright, Lady Ava— I mean, Merlin,

if I talk about your world now?

---

In the tower, Merlin simply laughed softly, her voice like the whisper of gentle wind.

"Oh, Kuroneko… always so nervous when Irene gets angry."

She lifted her hand gracefully, typing with elegant fingers.

Her smile was soft, but a glimmer of playful mischief flickered in her eyes —

the smile of a sorceress who enjoyed her little games.

---

[Lady Avalon]:

Very well~ I'll allow it, Kuroneko.

But do not reveal everything.

Leave some things shrouded…

because mystery makes everything more beautiful, doesn't it?

---

Kuroneko answered at once:

[Kuroneko]:

O-Okay, Merlin Proto! I'll explain carefully! 😣

[Kuroneko]:

Arthur Pendragon was a king.

Known as the King of Knights,

he ruled over the land of Britain—

a leader who lived for his people and his kingdom.

He possessed extraordinary swordsmanship,

and his courage was known throughout the world.

---

[Irene Belserion]:

Oh, a king? And titled King of Knights…

So he's the honorable, noble type?

A true warrior?

---

[Kuroneko]:

Yes, but that's not all.

He was also known as "The King Who Did Not Understand the Human Heart."

---

[Yamato]:

Eh?! What does that even mean?

He's a king, but… he doesn't understand people's hearts?

That sounds kind of sad… 😢

---

[Hatsune Miku]:

Hmm~ so someone who loved everyone,

but could never truly be close to anyone?

That sounds like the kind of song that would break your heart...

---

[Irene Belserion]:

"But why call him that?"

she typed quickly.

"He saved his people, ruled with honor…

how could someone like that not understand the human heart?"

---

[Kuroneko]:

Well… like this.

To the world, Arthur was the perfect king.

Just, strong, tireless.

He sacrificed his personal happiness for his kingdom.

But because of that…

he sealed away his own heart.

He did not cry, did not rage, did not love as others did.

To him, suffering was simply the price of being king.

He looked upon everyone with kindness,

but never allowed anyone close enough to truly see him.

---

The chat fell silent.

No one responded immediately.

Even Miku — who usually typed emojis or cheerful comments — simply stared at her screen, as if absorbing the weight of the words.

---

Meanwhile, in the faraway place no one could physically reach,

at the top of the Tower of Avalon, Lady Avalon — the feminine Merlin — read their conversation.

A gentle smile formed on her lips,

but there was something heavier, older, in her eyes.

"The king who did not understand the human heart…"

she whispered softly to herself.

The soft glow of the fae realm glided along her silver hair

as her gaze rose to Avalon's timeless sky.

---

[Hatsune Miku]:

That's… really sad. 😔

[Yamato]:

Yeah… a king who lived for everyone, but had no one for himself…

---

[Irene Belserion]:

So he was a king who had no greed?

He never wanted anything for himself.

Every battle, every decision, every sacrifice—

all for others.

---

[Irene Belserion]:

It's hard to believe.

A human like that shouldn't exist…

especially a king.

---

[Kuroneko]:

Believe it or not, that is who he was.

---

[Irene Belserion]:

Hmph. Fine. Enough of the story.

Explain his power.

How strong was this king who lacked a human heart?

---

[Kuroneko]:

As I said, his swordsmanship was unmatched.

But that's not all.

There was something else behind his strength — something no normal human possessed.

He had the Dragon Factor and Dragon Core.

That granted him mana nearly without limit.

In other words…

Arthur Pendragon was the incarnation of the Red Dragon.

---

Silence.

For a moment, the chatbox displayed nothing but that final line —

the word "dragon" cutting across the conversation like a blade.

---

[Irene Belserion]:

A DRAGON, you say?!

The message appeared large and fast,

as though Irene had screamed through dimensions.

She stood in her Fairy Tail world, eyes wide, pulse racing, breath trembling.

Her fingers tightened around her phone.

Her voice, soft but shaking, escaped her lips:

"An incarnation… of a Red Dragon…?

A human who became dragon?"

Her lips slowly curved —

a thin smile full of awe… and longing.

---

[Kuroneko]:

Yes, Irene.

If Arthur existed in your world right now…

he would likely be the only one worthy of the title Dragon King —

not Acnologia.

Inside him lies a dragon's power, yet he is still human—

he eats, sleeps, gets hungry, and can cry.

Something you always wanted, right, Irene?

---

The mood of the group shifted.

Yamato and Miku fell silent.

In the Fairy Tail world, Irene stood in her room,

breathing hard — emerald eyes burning like embers.

Her hand rose slowly to her own neck,

as if confirming that her skin was still flesh, not scales.

"A human… with the power of a dragon…"

she whispered.

"Not a human turned dragon…

but a human who merged with one…"

Her smile deepened —

admiration, wonder… and something far more dangerous.

"How fascinating, Arthur Pendragon…

You may be the perfect king,

but for someone like me…

with you, my dream is closer than ever."

---

Meanwhile, atop Avalon's tower, Lady Avalon gazed at her phone.

Her smile gentle, yet her eyes narrowing.

"Red Dragon… huh.

There are always those drawn to its flame."

She looked back up at the endless white sky.

Soft fae light traced the outline of her faint smile.

"But they forget…

the fire of a dragon does not only warm.

It can also burn the soul of whoever touches it too closely."
