Chapter 40: The Destruction of the Ultimate Summoning Beast
The Ultimate Summoning Beast was instantly wrapped into a massive paper cocoon, a gigantic mummy of white sheets.
Under Konan's precise control, the paper began to tighten and compress inward.
A thunderous crack-crack-crack! echoed through the air as pressure built up, the sound of bones and flesh bursting under immense force.
The creature's enormous body shrank slightly, dark red blood seeping through the gaps in the paper until every sheet was stained scarlet.
The air grew thick with the stench of burning blood and decay.
"At the limit already…?" Konan frowned, her sharp amber eyes narrowing on the crimson monstrosity ahead.
The power of compression had reached its peak, yet all it managed to do was shrink the monster by a fraction. Though it appeared grievously wounded, its vitality remained horrifying—it was already regenerating.
Alex observed silently, analyzing everything.
Through their past battles with Obito and Shinnō, Konan's weakness had become clear: she lacked a single decisive, high-damage attack.
Six billion explosive tags didn't count—that technique required immense preparation time and resources.
Konan herself knew it well. She'd poured nearly all her time into refining her Paper Release, leaving little room to learn other ninjutsu or powers. And back then, she'd never had the opportunity to do so anyway.
[Konan, ask Honoka if she has any ideas.]
Konan nodded and descended beside Uzumaki Honoka.
Honoka was trembling, knees hitting the ground, face pale and dripping with sweat. Her breathing was ragged; it was clear the Adamantine Sealing Chains had drained her to the edge of collapse.
Despite the strength of her Uzumaki bloodline, using such a large-scale sealing on a creature of that magnitude was pushing her body far past its limit.
Konan's tone was calm and cool. "That monster—what are its weaknesses?"
"If you created it, you must know something."
Honoka bit her lip, racking her memory before lowering her head in defeat. "I… I'm not sure. I wasn't part of the core team—I only assisted according to their instructions."
"If only the senior researchers were still alive… they'd know. But…" She looked toward the beast's bloody form. "They've probably all been eaten by it."
Her voice trembled. "You should go. I can't hold on much longer…"
Konan interrupted flatly. "No. There's still one alive."
A paper-wrapped figure drifted from behind a nearby tree. As the paper dissolved, it revealed a white-coated man.
"Inoue?" Honoka blinked, astonished. "You're still alive?"
You sound disappointed that I am, Inoue grumbled internally, but he dared not speak out loud before Konan. He stood stiffly, trying not to look at the towering red horror in the distance—until his legs gave way and he dropped to the ground in fright.
"R–Run! That thing's a nightmare!"
Slap!
A single paper sheet smacked his face, courtesy of Alex.
"Talk," Konan ordered coldly. "What is the Ultimate Summoning Beast's weakness?"
Her icy chakra pressure crashed over him, stealing his breath. Trembling, Inoue stammered, "F–Fire… it fears fire. But look at its size! What fire could possibly burn it completely?"
He gulped, eyes darting between Konan and the monster. "S–So, maybe we should just run. No one can kill that thing…"
"Fire, huh…" Konan murmured, her brow furrowing.
Her chakra natures were Wind, Water, and Earth—no Fire Release. Alex was the same.
She turned to Honoka. "Can you use Fire Release?"
"I—I have fire-nature chakra," Honoka admitted nervously, "but my flames wouldn't even burn one of its toes."
Konan sighed softly. As expected. To burn something of that scale would require a Fire Release of Sage-level power—something like Jiraiya's Sage Art: Goemon.
[Then we may have to withdraw,] Alex suggested.
He wanted to destroy the creature, but if they couldn't find a feasible way, retreating was the only option.
He'd already had enough of monsters with insane regeneration—Shinnō had been exhausting enough. There was no "Hero Water" cheat this time.
Suddenly, Honoka's eyes brightened. "Wait—the island has an active volcano, right behind the mountain!"
"If we can throw that thing into it, the lava should destroy it!"
Konan glanced at Inoue. "Is that possible?"
Inoue hesitated, thinking hard. "If you can fully submerge it in molten rock and stop it from feeding again, then yes—its regeneration would fail."
"Once it's cut off from air and energy, its healing will cease, and when its inner reserves run dry, it'll melt and die."
[Let's try it,] Alex said. [If it works, good. If not—we escape.]
He began channeling chakra into Konan.
Lifting something that massive into the air would drain enormous energy.
Konan raised her hand. Instantly, an immense wave of paper surged skyward, forming a pair of wings twice the size of the monster itself—vast enough to blot out the sun and cast the island into shadow.
Both Honoka and Inoue gasped audibly.
Neither had ever seen power like this. Honoka had spent her life trapped on this island; Inoue was just a civilian researcher. Even jōnin-level combat was beyond their experience.
Now, the display before them—this overwhelming divine power—left them speechless and awestruck.
Slowly, the colossal beast began to rise from the ground, suspended by Konan's paper wings.
Honoka's own chakra wings unfurled behind her as she flew alongside, maintaining her Adamantine Chains to keep the monster bound.
As for Inoue… he wasn't so lucky. He was quickly wrapped up again and floated behind them like a dangling mummy.
They soon arrived above the volcano.
The crater below glowed bright red, bubbling with molten magma. Black smoke rose in thick, twisting plumes.
The lava lake was wide and deep enough to swallow the creature whole.
Konan calculated quickly, then turned to Honoka. "Once it's fully submerged, release the chains."
Honoka nodded firmly. "Understood. My Adamantine Chains are chakra constructs—they won't melt."
Konan gave a silent nod. With a wave of her hand, the massive wings and paper wrappings dissipated.
The beast's true body—still bound in golden chains—hung above the volcano's center for one tense moment.
Then—Sploosh!
It dropped straight into the molten depths, sending a wave of lava splattering outward.
The creature sank fast, disappearing beneath the seething red surface.
When only the bubbling magma remained, Honoka let out a sharp breath and drew her hands back. The nine golden chains retracted with a whoosh.
"Raaaahhhh!!!"
A horrific roar erupted from beneath the lava.
The entire crater trembled violently as the molten lake surged and churned in rage.
