Chapter 12 - (Bonus): Changing Classes, Zhou Yi’s Past

In the end, Zhou Yi still didn't expel Huo Yuhao, but instead had someone send him for treatment.

The day's courses quickly came to an end.

That evening, Bai Zhou had dinner with Wang Dong, made sure he was full, and then took him along to the Teaching Office to find the director of the Outer Court Martial Soul Department — Du Weilun.

"What? You two want to change classes? Why?"

Du Weilun had been the director of the Teaching Office for many years, yet this was the first time he had ever heard such a request.

"Our teacher is Zhou Yi. I think her level is limited — she's not suitable to teach me," Bai Zhou said frankly.

Of course, the real reason was that he didn't like being treated like a dog.

In Zhou Yi's class, students were really trained like dogs — with no temper or dignity left.

Even if Zhou Yi threw a bone and told you to fetch it, you had to obey.

Bai Zhou strongly suspected that Huo Yuhao's strange tendency to act like a loyal dog was probably cultivated by Zhou Yi herself…

"Heh, limited level? You're saying a Soul Emperor has limited skill?" Du Weilun almost laughed in anger.

Although Zhou Yi had been complained about many times before, it was always for other reasons — this was the first time someone accused her of being unqualified. That was new.

"You brat, are you half-asleep? Shrek's teachers are sought after by every other academy out there, and you say a Shrek teacher isn't good enough? Who do you think you are?" Another teacher nearby immediately flared up after hearing someone badmouth Shrek.

"Zhou Yi might be a little strict, but the students she's trained have the highest promotion rate to the Inner Court!" Another teacher chimed in to defend her.

When Bai Zhou heard this, he nearly laughed out loud.

Other classes had a hundred students, and only one entered the Inner Court — a 1% promotion rate.

Zhou Yi's class had fewer students because she expelled so many. With only fifty students, even if one made it to the Inner Court, that's a 2% rate. Add a bit of luck and some naturally talented students, and of course her rate would look higher!

"Oh? Since Teacher Zhou Yi's methods are so great, why not make them mandatory for the entire academy? Then the promotion rate to the Inner Court would double, wouldn't it?" Bai Zhou sneered as he looked at the teacher who had just defended Zhou Yi.

"Uh…"

That teacher was instantly choked speechless.

After all, Zhou Yi's style wasn't something that could be spread school-wide — if it were, Shrek Academy's reputation would be completely ruined.

Most Shrek students — ninety-nine percent of them — were nobles from the three great empires. Behind every noble stood families and forces that cooperated with Shrek in some way. The political and financial interests involved were immensely complicated. If Shrek started expelling these students left and right, the academy would become the biggest laughingstock in the continent.

In this world, everything came down to profit. Every alliance existed for the sake of benefit.

"All right, enough interruptions. Shrek Academy has never allowed class transfers before. Your reason isn't convincing. If there's nothing else, you two can go back now."

Of course, Du Weilun knew Bai Zhou — the student who fought on the first day of school, the notorious troublemaker with a sharp tongue. He really didn't want to argue with him.

Changing classes was simply not possible. There was no such precedent, and the academy couldn't set one.

"How about this — in three months, there'll be the New Student Competition. Since you think Zhou Yi's teaching isn't good enough, as long as you transfer me and Wang Dong to another class, I guarantee we'll win the championship."

"If we can't win, we'll drop out ourselves."

Bai Zhou spoke calmly, activating the only strategy that always worked in Shrek — a gamble.

"Oh? Are you sure?"

Du Weilun's interest was immediately piqued.

"I'm not bragging. To me, every new student is trash. I honestly don't even need a teacher."

Bai Zhou chuckled lightly. After all, he had a cheat. What teacher could he possibly need?

"Besides, as soul masters, our cultivation ultimately depends on ourselves — not on some great teacher. If relying on a teacher could make one strong, then what's the point of talent or resources?"

Every word he spoke hit home, and the teachers around him were all shaken.

No one had expected such profound insight from such a young student — this was quite interesting.

"Good! You've got guts, kid. You've convinced me. I'll approve your class transfer. But if you fail to win the New Student Competition, then withdraw on your own."

Du Weilun laughed heartily, completely won over by Bai Zhou's confidence.

"Good. I want to transfer to Class 9 — Teacher Mu Jin's class." Bai Zhou nodded, directly naming the one he wanted.

"You little brat… are you doing this on purpose?"

Du Weilun's pen trembled slightly as he looked at Bai Zhou with suspicion.

Class 9 belonged to Mu Jin — and everyone knew that Mu Jin and Zhou Yi were romantic rivals.

When they were younger, both had pursued Fan Yu, but Fan Yu only had eyes for Zhou Yi.

Mu Jin's mentality had collapsed after that. Her cultivation progress slowed drastically, and she began to oppose Zhou Yi at every opportunity.

Zhou Yi didn't tolerate it either — she had even expelled Mu Jin's nephew, a third-year student.

Mu Jin reported Zhou Yi afterward, causing a huge uproar, and that incident was what got Zhou Yi transferred to teaching the new students.

And now Bai Zhou wanted to transfer straight into Mu Jin's class? This was getting interesting.

"What do you mean? I just think the number nine is lucky," Bai Zhou said innocently, pretending not to understand.

The surrounding teachers all gave him strange looks, but none of them said anything. After all, gossip among teachers wasn't something they could tell students.

"All right, I'll inform Zhou Yi and Mu Jin tomorrow. From then on, you two will be students of Class 9. Report there in the morning."

Du Weilun sighed in relief, not bothering to reject him further.

After all, Zhou Yi and Mu Jin had been feuding for years. One more spark wouldn't change much.

"Thank you, Teacher."

Bai Zhou bowed politely to Du Weilun.

"You really are a troublemaker, kid…"

Du Weilun chuckled helplessly and waved his hand. "Go on then, get some rest."

"Was everything you said real? Can we really win the tournament?" Wang Dong couldn't help but ask once they left the office.

"What, you don't have confidence?"

Bai Zhou raised an eyebrow in amusement.

"I—of course I do! It's just first place. What's the big deal?" Wang Dong puffed out his chest, trying to look confident.

"All right, you head back first. I've got something to do tonight." Bai Zhou pushed Wang Dong lightly toward the dorms.

"No way! You're planning to sneak off and train without me again! You promised to take me with you!" Wang Dong got anxious and immediately grabbed Bai Zhou's arm.

"I really have business to handle — don't follow me."

Bai Zhou pressed a hand on Wang Dong's face, trying to push him away.

After all, the matter with Tang Ya wasn't something Wang Dong could know about.

"I don't care! You're not getting stronger behind my back again!" Wang Dong clung to Bai Zhou stubbornly, refusing to let go no matter what.

After some scuffling, Bai Zhou sighed helplessly and ended up dragging Wang Dong along to the academy's training grounds.

He had already arranged to meet Tang Ya there — she was probably waiting in one of the training rooms already, and Bai Zhou was in a hurry not to keep her waiting.

"Cultivation depends on yourself. Just pick a training room. I'll pick one too. I'll come get you tomorrow morning."

Without further ado, Bai Zhou rented a training room and shut the door in Wang Dong's face.

"Hmph! So secretive…"

Wang Dong stomped his foot in frustration.

He had wanted to train with Bai Zhou, mostly because he was curious. How could someone his age be that strong? He wanted to see how Bai Zhou cultivated.

But since the training rooms were small, he couldn't bring himself to squeeze in together, so he opened one for himself and went inside.

A few minutes later, Bai Zhou quietly slipped out and headed toward the training room he had agreed on with Tang Ya…

PS: The story between Mu Jin and Zhou Yi isn't something I made up — the original work did hint at it quite clearly.
