After the loss and whispers, Indra hardened.
The kind elder brother vanished; in his place stood a frigid prodigy who dropped challengers in two hits.
"Not my type… so I'll just kill it quickly."
Asura wiped cold sweat. The Sage of Six Paths frowned.
Gossip at lunch—"Indra's not half the man Asura is."
Each comparison jabbed deeper. Indra's gaze turned to ice.
[Tobirama]: "See? Post-Sharingan Uchiha default to this."
[Izuna Uchiha]: "Where'd this mad dog come from?"
[Madara Uchiha]: "Ōdōdō, just block him."
[Hashirama]: "You two, breathe…"
Indra climbed the back mountain to meet Black Zetsu again.
Zetsu's thesis: only Infinite Tsukuyomi can birth true peace.
The crowd balked. "Sage-dad… you're not going to step in?"
Silence from the ancient father. The brothers drifted toward fate.
The Trial of Heirs
When it came time to choose a successor to Ninshū, the Sage set a test:
Bring water to two drought-stricken villages.
Indra's path:Water Style in a flash, taught the villagers jutsu, reported back by sundown.
Asura's path: Won hearts, gathered allies, dug for a year. No fancy ninjutsu, just calluses and community.
Everyone could see where this was headed.
[Tobirama]: "Asura feels… like my big brother."
[Hashirama]: "Ahahaha, does he?"
[Sasuke]: "He also reads a little like Naruto."
[Boruto]: "Exactly like Dad!"
[Sarada]: "Asura-senpai radiates the same warmth as the Seventh."
[Asura]: "Technically, Naruto is my reincarnation."
[Madara]: "Reincarnation…?" (…does that make me Indra's line?)
The Sage chose Asura.
Speed was not the metric—hearts were.
Indra had skill, but he didn't understand people. The mantle skipped him.
[Boruto]: "But Indra was faster and cleaner—why not him?"
[Naruto (youth)]: "Son, one person's strength runs out. Believe in your comrades."
[Sarada]: "So he failed because he rejected companionship…"
Indra's jaw tightened. He had brought ninjutsu to a village—and watched it rot into greed and war.
Hearing Father's verdict, he walked away. No one followed.
[Madara]: "Hmph. The day I left Konoha, none followed either."
[Uchiha Tekka]: "Lord Madara, we waited behind the rear gate but never saw you."
[Madara]: "…I used the front gate."
[Rasa]: "Bold. Defecting through the main entrance?"
The Fall… and the Eyes
Indra sought Black Zetsu once more and fully embraced the "peace by dominion" creed.
Jaw set, eyes stormy, he cut down two clansmen.
"I'm sorry. For the plan… this step is necessary."
In that instant, his pupils twisted—
the tomoe whirled into a new pattern—
Mangekyō Sharingan bloomed.
[Tobirama]: "Behold the militant Uchiha temperament."
[Hashirama]: "He killed his own people… why?"
[Tobirama]: "To open the Mangekyō. He's gone over the edge—and many Uchiha do."
All eyes slid—slowly—toward Sasuke.
[Sasuke]: "Why are you all staring at me? Watch the video."
A beat. Even Naruto pretended to look away.
Somewhere in the shadows, Zetsu smiled. The first fissure in destiny had widened.
