Chapter 59 - “Konohamaru… Beat the Seventh Hokage?!”

Hokage Office.

Father and son locked eyes. Naruto's mouth twitched first.

"Ahem… didn't you see how mature and composed I was in that video?" Naruto glared at his kid.

"In what universe were you mature?"

"Enough. I'm your father!"

Naruto's palm smacked the desk. Tea rippled in neat rings.

"Old man, you're gonna regret this!!"

Boruto shot him a look, spun, and slammed the door.

The ANBU cleaning crew exchanged a glance, sweat beading.

"Why does this scene feel familiar…"

"Right? Déjà vu…"

[Madara Uchiha: "As expected. A fool."]

[Obito Uchiha: "Naruto, you don't even understand basic phrases? I was more mature at your age."]

[Kakashi Hatake: "…"]

[Minato Namikaze: "Ahahaha…"]

Kakashi eyed Obito's message. More mature? At Naruto's age you were probably still eating dirt.

A draft slipped through the window. Madara blinked, almost puzzled.

Was Konoha's future really this… under-schooled?

"Trash, indeed," he sighed.

"It means," Obito explained coolly, "that even if you have numbers, without brains you're useless."

[Kakashi: "You were bottom of the class, and now you're the dictionary?"]

[Obito: "Shut it, trash Kakashi. Am I wrong?!"]

Back in Kamui, Obito fumed. Bottom of the class?! At Naruto's age he had been extremely composed, thank you.

They both took turns dunking on young Naruto.

"One day, everyone becomes like me," Obito said, eyes like ice.

"I've said this a hundred times already—I'm not becoming you. I'll be… Hokage!" Naruto crossed his fingers, gaze unwavering.

"Don't worry. Under Infinite Tsukuyomi, everything goes smoothly. In that dream, you can be Hokage too…"

His tone shifted.

The Ten-Tails yawned open its maw, gathering a Tailed Beast Bomb the size of a meteor.

It swelled, then—whoom—lanced away.

Wind turned to a roaring flood; the earth peeled back in sheets.

Kakashi's pupil shrank. The shot was off—

It missed the formation and pulverized a mountain, carving a trench across nearly a thousand kilometers.

Light throbbed over the horizon—

and the sky-chat went silent.

[Boruto: "Uncle Obito… did you mess up?"]

[Sarada: "How do you make that kind of rookie mistake?"]

[Nagato: "If he had not messed up, you wouldn't be alive to ask."]

[Tobirama: "Likely the Yamanaka Clan interfered."]

Obito stiffened—right. Ino Yamanaka had slipped a wire through his mind; that's why the shot strayed.

Smoke thinned.

A wound crossed the land—an abyss so wide the far edge looked like a new horizon.

"Was it a miss… or on purpose?" Kakashi's lips trembled.

Then—shadows dropped from the sky.

"They're here," Kakashi exhaled.

Music swelled.

"You've waited long enough!!"

"With Byakugan support, we pulled off the most precise new-transmission technique… didn't expect it to be cracked in two seconds," Ino whispered, shaking—but smiling. "Still made him miss. Good work."

"Are you okay, Naruto-kun?" Hinata hurried in, worry written across her face.

"Don't posture just because Hinata's here," Kiba snorted.

[Himawari: "So that's what Mom looked like when she was young?!"]

[Boruto: "Wait—Mom actually fought on the battlefield?!"]

[(Young) Naruto: "Your mom's a chūnin. Of course she did."]

[Himawari: "What about you, Dad?"]

[(Young) Naruto: "…"]

Back in the office, Naruto's smile twitched. Hokage, sure…

Technically, still a genin.

[Sarada: "Why is Lord Seventh a genin…?"]

[Konohamaru (adult): "Because he lost to me back then."]

[Mitsuki: "Huh??? Sensei beat the Seventh?"]

Boruto-era street interview time: villagers shoved mics at Konohamaru.

How strong was the man who defeated the Seventh Hokage?

Konohamaru's mouth twitched. He'd "won" because Naruto got disqualified for using Sage Mode in a no-Sage-Mode match.

He basically accepted the trophy in a daze.

[Ōnoki: "Enough trivia. How are you countering Madara on that field?"]

From the heavens, ninja rained down.

The Aburame unleashed swarms—tens of thousands of chakra beetles fanning outward.

Mist-nin wove signs—Fog Release billowed in rolling sheets.

With an army behind them, even basic jutsu scaled to cataclysmic.

Carried by insect-wind, the fog blanketed the battlefield.

Chat exploded.

[Sarada: "So smart—this is senior-level tactics."]

[Chōchō: "They're using the fog as a giant interference veil!"]

[(Young) Naruto: "Yes!! Everyone's here… Next up is the greatest jutsu in shinobi history!"]

Music burned hotter.

Medics clustered—Sakura stabilizing Kakashi.

In the command pit, orders snapped like wire.

"First Division—in position!"

"Second Division—in position!!"

"Third Division—also in position!!!"

Voices rose out of the fog—steady, disciplined.

Every unit slotted into place.

Blood ran hot through a thousand throats.

Madara peered into the murk, unimpressed.

"You think you can hide?"

Obito whipped the Ten-Tails' tail—one sweep, and the fog tore away.

A hiss cut the air:

"Wind Style: Wind Cutter!"

The veil shredded completely—

and below stood tens of thousands of shinobi, shoulder to shoulder.

Madara's eyes ticked, just once.

Naruto's fingers crossed; the corner of his mouth lifted.

"This isn't a rabble anymore."

"What you're seeing is… the Ninja Allied Forces' Technique!!"

[Boruto: "Too cool… so that's how Dad's era fought?!"]

[Mitsuki: "Why isn't 'Mom' in frame?"]

[Tsunade: "I'm just going to say it… Orochimaru, why does your son call you 'Mom'?"]

[Jiraiya: "Orochimaru, you're a… situation."]

[Hiruzen: "Orochimaru, y-you… sigh!"]

[Orochimaru: "Hehe. We'll meet again very soon…"]

Konoha Year 64.

Orochimaru resisted the urge to lick his lips, eyes fixed on his old teacher.

Hiruzen shivered. No air conditioning—and yet the office felt… cold.

(Relax. This story keeps the peace—no one's dying on-screen here.)
