Cherreads

Chapter 52 - Late Sunday

"grand morher?" Siv Siv went to look at her face clearly and glanced at the cashier and several items on the checkout counter. The old lady looked at Siv Siv for a moment; she recognized her as the girl who planted vegetables. However, at this moment, she didn't seem to have time for proper greetings; she only smiled and turned back to the salesperson, asking them to look again because her wallet was placed on the counter earlier and had suddenly disappeared. The old lady asked the cashier to help search for it once more! But the cashier's face was filled with extreme annoyance because they had already tried to look and couldn't find it. The old lady was frantic because that wallet didn't just contain money, but also a photograph of her son! Being an elderly person, she was panicking because it was important to her. Other people nearby were continuing to check out the items they had bought, so the cashier didn't have time to look many times; moreover, there were many people to charge. They didn't know if the old lady had lost her money elsewhere without realizing it and was only speaking up now, or if she perhaps had no money at all. Luckily, her clothes were decent; otherwise, they might have thought she was an old woman with no money using a trick to act as if she lost it. Siv Siv asked the old lady for clarification and found out that when the lady was preparing to pay, there were many people nearby, including someone who hurried to check out before her! While talking loudly on the phone, the lady hadn't paid attention; she moved her things out for the cashier to charge while the cashier was finishing the transaction for that man. That man's groceries were on the counter, and the lady had probably left her wallet near them. Siv Siv asked the cashier to check the camera for a moment! The cashier kept their face still and didn't say anything, but showed that they thought, "Do I really have time for this?" The request was truly inconsiderate to them. They said, "Wait a moment," and charged the customers first, one after another, as if they intentionally wanted to delay. Hana smiled slightly, feeling helpless.

"Excuse me! Are the staff at this mart taught to delay customers like this?" she said while taking out her phone and tapping it, looking at the phone number posted nearby. The cashier had no choice and could no longer pretend not to know or hear; they turned to finish the work and said they were opening it now, then apologized properly. When they checked, they discovered a frustrating reality: while charging the items, the cashier claiming to have fast skills had grabbed the wallet and put it into that man's shopping bag. It seemed neither of them had noticed. The cashier seemed speechless and ashamed of their previous behavior of being annoyed and delaying. They apologized to the old lady. The old lady wasn't sure who to blame; perhaps it was because she placed the wallet on the counter. It was a mutual oversight but an unavoidable responsibility. What should be done? Suddenly, the cashier covered their mouth, their eyes unable to believe it, and felt a great sense of relief: that man had returned! He told the cashier that he didn't know whose wallet was in his shopping bag, so he brought it back to the cashier to keep in case the owner came looking for it! Seeing him, the old lady truly smiled and thanked him. He also apologized for taking the items without looking; anyway, the lady truly had hope again! Hana stared at the cashier, making them feel a certain chill, and then they came to apologize to both of them. That man then turned toward Hana; he seemed to recognize her… "Hana?" he asked. Actually, he was Sara's father; he recognized Hana's face because Sara and his wife always talked about Hana and showed photos, so he could recognize her. Hana looked at his face for a bit and smiled while wondering.

"Yes… I am Hana… how does Uncle know me?" His phone rang as if there was an urgent matter just like before; he had no more time to talk, so he smiled and said he was Sara's father and had heard Sara always speaking well of Hana! Having said this, he left.

The old lady also thanked Siv Siv and Hana. She also just found out that kan had another friend named Hana. She smiled and thanked them today, then parted ways with the two girls.

Siv Siv never expected that man to be Sara's father! Her face showed surprise; she never imagined Sara's father would be such a good person. She meant that Sara was very different from her father. They had to part ways when they got off the bus; Hana didn't take Siv Siv home. When they got off the bus, Siv Siv suddenly realized she hadn't bought anything for her mother yet! Hana teased her and told her to hurry up and buy it, then she left.

As Hana walked near her house, she saw a car at the soup shop; Hana recognized that car! Even though it wasn't a police work vehicle, she knew it was the personal car of a police officer she knew. That person came out as if they had finished talking about something with someone. The owner of the house, the Class 11D President, also came out. It looked like the two of them had something to discuss! Today was Sunday, not the owner's day off, so the 11D President was at home taking care of his younger siblings; he came out to say goodbye to the police officer again! Hana, who stopped nearby, looked at the police officer and smiled with a slight nod to show polite respect. The Class President also saw Senior Hana; he smiled at Hana as a greeting. The female police officer looked at Hana but didn't smile back; it seemed she wasn't satisfied with something she couldn't find out about Hana. Thus, she got into the car and drove away. Hana looked at the car driving away and then walked toward the 11D President, asking if he had some trouble since a police officer came?

"Nothing! She just came to visit and bought some things for my father… how does Senior know her?" "Oh…" Hana hummed for a bit, saying she had seen her when the incident happened that there were police officers at her house! The Class President smiled and scratched his head, agreeing that it was true. Hana looked inside and saw him doing exercises; she said if he had anything to ask her about the exercises, don't be shy, he could ask her. Having a senior whom he had often mentioned to his mother about, and now she was talking to him and allowing him to ask questions, the Class President didn't wait long and said he had exercises he didn't understand. Hana smiled and asked if it was okay for her to go inside. Hana spent her time explaining the exercises to him and saw that the Class President's younger siblings were playing a lot, but they were forced by the Class President—the older brother who wasn't very skilled at babysitting to do their own exercises as well. Hana was a bit amused and spoke gently with the children and explained their lessons; she seemed very good at talking, and the children liked her too. Hana also wanted to buy snacks as a gift for the children; she asked if the Class President had a bicycle.

"Senior! What for?" he asked in wonder, but he went to get the bicycle from the back of the house. Hana borrowed it for a moment with a smile; when she returned, she had snacks and ice cream to share with the children, and the two of them ate as well. The Class President smiled at Hana's kindness; he never expected her to be so kind-hearted. The Class President, who hadn't thanked her directly before, thanked Hana directly now for the time Hana helped during his mother's funeral. Speaking of this, he also asked if the two seniors were reconciled yet?

Hana looked at his face for a bit, then smiled and nodded; she said it was quite embarrassing to be seen by a junior as being like children! "No! Don't think like that; Senior makes me feel uneasy!" He said that friendship relations are just like that. As for the time the incident happened, he also made his friend feel hurt because he decided not to tell even his close friend, just like everyone else. "She was hurt by me! But we are reconciled now…" Hana was amused and asked if they were friends or a couple? The Class President quickly denied it, saying they were just friends; he clarified that his female friend already had a boyfriend. After talking for a while, Hana said goodbye and went to her house because she had been away for a long time.

This Sunday, kan didn't work as it was her day off. During this whole day, she cleaned the house, cleaned the house surroundings, and studied extra as well; especially, she felt happy making delicious food herself. But wait, didn't she say she was busy and that's why she didn't go to watch volleyball? That's right she was busy studying! Moreover, she wanted to stay home. As a way to make up for her two friends' disappointment, she went to the mart to buy chocolate powder to bring home and practice making chocolate as well. Learning to do it alone was truly fun, hoping it would be a comforting gift for her two friends. In the evening, Aunt Char arrived with groceries and vegetables to cook dinner tonight! Kan hurried to help take them and saw that the aunt seemed tired. She took the chocolate she had put in the refrigerator for a long time and gave it to Aunt Char to try. It was a bit bitter but also had a sweet taste that made it delicious; especially, it was cold, which made her feel a bit better. Kan also poured water into a glass and brought it for Aunt Char to drink because she looked thirsty; she told the aunt to go take a shower first while she organized these groceries into the refrigerator! Aunt Char nodded while kan organized. The sound of a motorcycle sounded, along with a calling voice from outside. Just by listening to the voice, kan knew it was Sun. She walked out; it made her cover her mouth, her eyes surprised. That motorcycle was very new and cool; it wasn't a big bike, but a new model black and white Scoopy. It was very cool, especially since it belonged to Sun, making her jealous was he showing off this motorcycle to her? She pretended not to be surprised and went to smile and hold Sister Khai's hand, who had come along, then acted as if she didn't see Sun's presence. The two women led each other into the house; Sister Khai also helped kan wash vegetables and prepare for the aunt when she finished getting ready. Sun was also told by kan to go buy some drinks as well. Was she still going to continue pretending not to be surprised? It made Sun very annoyed. When he returned, he also brought kan's father, who had a shoulder bag; perhaps Sun had gone to the train station to wait for him? Upon arrival, he saw that the aunt was cooking and being close with the two young women; it looked like it wasn't a specific event, just a gathering to eat together once. A moment later, this family seemed lively today, eating together and talking. Khai introduced herself as kan's coworker and that she was Sun's aunt, making kan's father surprised; he never knew and had never seen that Sun had an aunt who looked so similar in age. Perhaps for Khai, she looked young, so he thought the ages were similar; in reality, Khai had an age gap of seven years. Especially, it was revealed that Sun's mother had actually come to visit Sun a few days ago and bought the motorcycle for Sun as well. But looking at Sun's mother's character, she wouldn't buy it easily; there must be something that made her decide to agree to buy it. Kan understood this as well; she ate while staring at Sun's face. The two of them looked like enemies meeting each other; I don't know what happened, making Sun seem to change and not yet able to adapt correctly.
