Chapter 20 - The Tide of the Times

Lex walked into the dining room, where a servant had already pulled out a chair for him, assisting him to his seat.

He nodded to his parents in greeting, then looked at his younger siblings beside him, offering a smile.

After Bison finished speaking, he looked at his daughter, "Bell, I heard from your mother that you've been learning to dance recently?"

The golden-haired Young Miss, whose face was bright and beautiful, nodded slightly: "I am currently learning the most popular 'Ancient Spirit Dance' in the court."

Bison laughed heartily: "Good, when you've learned it, I hope to be the first Spectator."

Harribel's face blossomed with a smile: "Alright~"

Bison then said with emotion: "Not long ago, a friend who serves in the navy told me that just recently, our Kingdom's navy acquired a new ironclad warship."

"This is an iron warship capable of overturning an era. With it, the pirates will have a harder time from now on. Things like what Lex encountered should greatly decrease on the Sea in the future."

"I can feel that the tide of the era is rolling in."

Lex raised his wine glass, the red liquid in it gently swaying, and he smiled: "Then Father will surely stand at the forefront of the era."

Bison laughed heartily: "I hope so."

He raised his glass and clinked it with Lex's in the air.

The golden-haired Young Miss beside them rolled her eyes, muttered 'sycophant' under her breath, then elegantly wiped her small mouth with a napkin, stood up, and said: "I'm finished eating, please enjoy your meal."

The little boy Joe opposite also jumped up: "Me too."

He quickly climbed down from his chair and grabbed his second sister's hand by the door: "Bell, where's my wooden horse?"

"It will be delivered tomorrow, but if you want this gift, you must promise me one thing."

Joe stepped back two paces, saying with a frightened expression: "You're not going to make me taste your pastries again, are you?"

Harribel put her hands on her hips: "What kind of expression is that? What's wrong with the pastries I make!"

The little boy dashed out in a flash: "Even dogs won't eat your pastries! If you want me to taste them for you, I'd rather not have the gift."

"Joe! You stop right there!"

The fuming Young Miss chased after him.

A relaxed burst of laughter echoed in the dining room.

Seeing that only his parents were left, Lex cleared his throat and said: "Father, I'd like to discuss something with you."

Bison cut a small piece of meat from the fried lamb chop on his plate and put it in his mouth: "What is it?"

Lex glanced apologetically at his mother before saying: "I went hunting this afternoon, with Leon and them to Eberly Mountain. We encountered a pack of wolves in the mountains."

"Lex."

As expected, upon hearing that he had done something so dangerous, his mother Amelia gave him a reproachful look as he had anticipated: "How could you do something so dangerous?"

"I apologize."

Lex knew her reproach stemmed from concern: "However, because of that, I also discovered some unusual circumstances. First, those wild wolves, they were larger and more brutal. The hunters had never seen such beasts before."

"Additionally, we were also attacked by something. Please forgive me for not being able to describe it accurately. Although it displayed some human characteristics, that face, I don't think it can be called human."

Lex briefly described what he had seen, then said: "I regret that I only repelled it, not killed it. That dangerous thing, I think it should be related to several bloody cases in the Town."

"The 'culprit' I encountered near Memorial Square a few days ago, I think it is very similar to the monster I met tonight."

Bison and his wife quickly exchanged glances, then said: "Very good, Lex. After something like this happened, you first came to us to discuss and consult, instead of handling it alone. You did very well in that regard."

"As for this matter, I hope you stop here. This is not an incident a Baron's son should face, at least not now."

"Since you suspect there's a monster lurking in our Town, then such matters should be left to experts to handle. Tomorrow, I will visit Kaosi. They will handle it well."

Hand it over to the police? Oh, right, I remember every County has special police forces, teams composed of Beyonder. Desi County must have them too.

Report this matter to the police department, and then Kaosi will report it to the County's police station, who will dispatch 'experts' to investigate and handle it?

Lex nodded secretly. This was indeed a good method, and it also conformed to the way nobles handled things.

Amelia suggested: "Lex, go find your sister later and have her draw the appearance of the 'culprit', so your father can take it to Kaosi tomorrow."

"Bell?"

Lex frowned slightly: "I'm worried it will scare her."

Amelia responded with a smile: "Don't worry, she's braver than you think. You'll soon realize that."

"Alright."

After dinner, Lex went to his sister's room. Faint sobs could be heard from inside, as if someone was crying?

Lex knocked on the door: "Bell, are you there?"

The door quickly opened, revealing a girl with black hair and blue eyes, similar in age to Lex, with soft features and a hint of baby fat on her face. She was Harribel's personal maid, and Lex remembered her name was Ailiya.

"Mr. Lex." Ailiya stepped back two paces, "Young Miss Bell went to find Young Master Joe and hasn't returned yet."

Lex nodded slightly: "Then I'll wait for her here."

Entering the room and sitting on the sofa, Lex curiously glanced at the maid, noticing her eyes were red and there were still un-wiped tear stains at the corners of her eyes. He wondered what was wrong with her.

Ailiya respectfully asked: "Mr. Lex, would you like black tea or coffee?"

"Black tea, please." Lex said casually.

The maid quickly brewed a cup of black tea, but she was somewhat distracted, so much so that she tripped on the carpet, and both she and the cup fell out.

"Watch out!"

Lex sprang up from the sofa and, with a hunter's agility, caught Ailiya before she fell.

Of course, Lex couldn't save the cup of black tea.

"Are you alright?" Lex helped her up.

Before Ailiya could respond, she heard someone call out: "Lex, what are you doing here?"

Harribel had returned. Her gaze shifted back and forth between Lex and Ailiya. She walked over with strong strides, pulling her personal maid, who was half a head taller than her, behind her, protecting her.

"Lex, what do you want to do to Ailiya!"

Believe me, sis, I just did a good deed. How could I have any bad intentions? Lex knew from her expression that his sister had misunderstood.

There was nothing he could do; it was his 'reputation' that preceded him.

"Young Miss Bell, I almost fell just now. Mr. Lex merely helped me up." Ailiya quickly explained.

Harribel glanced at her, and softly snorted through her nostrils: "It better be."

"What are you doing here?" This was directed at Lex.

Lex smiled: "I want to ask you for a favor."

"No! I'm busy!" The golden-haired Young Miss turned her face away, looking to the side.

What a blunt answer. Lex had no choice but to bring out his trump card: "Mother sent me. She hopes you can help me draw a picture."

Harribel was surprised: "Mother? Well, alright. But you have to do something for me."

Lex quickly said: "Besides tasting strange things, I can promise you anything."

"Lex!"

Inside the room, the indignant cry of the noble Young Miss rang out.
