The one pressing against Doug's revolver was Lex.
This action, along with Doug's words, caused the twenty-odd Black Bowties members around them to gather, their faces grim.
Aside from a few trusted subordinates who always followed Doug and wore cheap formal attire, the other members' clothes were varied, but no matter what they wore, they all had a Black Bowties tied at their collars.
This made them appear both incongruous and somewhat bizarre.
Facing Doug's questioning, Lex did not directly respond, instead saying, "Time is almost up. I don't want any unexpected complications, I don't want the mission to go wrong or even be ruined."
"If anyone affects my reputation, I will not let him off."
Doug's two not-so-thick eyebrows raised, and his smile remained unchanged: "Oh, including me?"
Through his black iron mask, Lex's gaze remained steady as he said, "Including you."
These words caused the surrounding Black Bowtiess to immediately draw their long knives or revolvers, pointing them at Lex.
Feeling the heavy pressure on his revolver, Doug's eyes darted around before he shouted, "What are you doing? Put those things away!"
Hearing this, Lex also released his hand, and Doug kicked the 'traitor': "Get out of here, and don't let me see you in Enki Town again!"
The injured man scrambled away, passing by the Black Bowtiess. Doug snorted, then put on a smile again and said to Lex, "Let's go, we're going to collect the goods."
As Lex turned around, he suddenly heard a gunshot, and he whipped his head back to see Doug raising his hand.
Smoke drifted from his gun barrel.
The man running on the beach not far away fell straight down and did not get up again.
Doug shouted, "Bury him quickly."
He put away his revolver and smiled at Lex: "See, it's just killing a traitor, it doesn't take much time, it won't cause any complications, and it certainly won't affect your reputation."
Lex said nothing, not looking at the man lying on the beach, merely giving Doug a faint glance: "You have already wasted 10 seconds."
Doug laughed heartily, striding past Lex and leading the way.
They headed southwest along the beach. The coastline continuously narrowed, and after rounding a bend, the view suddenly opened up again.
In the bay here, under the crimson moonlight, a multi-masted sailboat lay quietly anchored not far from the shore on the sea.
A wooden boat glided across the water, heading towards the sailboat.
Doug snorted: "Benji, that bastard, even at this hour, he can't resist doing these petty, disreputable small businesses."
He glanced at Lex and explained: "Benji is the captain of that ship. Sometimes, on his way to deliver goods, he'll conveniently take people who can't get tickets through official channels abroad."
Lex narrowed his eyes slightly. In the moonlight, he saw two people on the wooden boat.
One of them was Bridge, who had tried to hire him as a temporary bodyguard a few days ago.
The ship he was originally supposed to take was this very one tonight.
As Bridge and his bodyguard began to board the ship, Doug called over Bearded Man, who had been beaten by Lex that day: "Quickly signal that bastard Benji! It's getting late, tell him to hand over the goods soon so I can go back to sleep!"
Bearded Man held a lantern high, occasionally covering the lampshade with his hand. This was using the flickering light to transmit a message.
But he signaled several times, and there was no reaction from the ship. Suddenly, gunshots rang out from the ship!
Doug's face changed, and he instinctively ran towards the sea. During this, three more gunshots rang out from the multi-masted sailboat.
Then came an eerie silence.
Behind his iron mask, Lex frowned slightly and stepped forward, saying, "I suggest it's best not to board the ship, but I imagine you won't agree."
Doug's facial muscles twitched as he said, "Isn't that obvious? The cargo on that ship is very important to me, and they absolutely cannot have anything happen to them! Otherwise, it will be very difficult for me to explain to that man!"
That man?
Lex thought of the carriage Doug had just descended from. The leader of the Black Bowtiess had bowed to the person inside the carriage; 'that man' must have been in there at the time.
Realizing his slip of the tongue, Doug immediately covered his mouth with his hand, then shouted, "Quickly get the boat out, let's go up and see!"
The Black Bowtiess ran to the shore, flipped over several wooden boats that were upside down on the beach, and pushed them into the sea.
Lex and Doug shared a boat, while Bearded Man and two other bodyguards in formal attire rowed. A moment later, they boarded the deck of the multi-masted sailboat.
There was no one on the deck, nor any lights. The main door leading to the cabin was wide open, and it was pitch black inside.
Doug came to the door and shouted inside, "Benji, are you down there? Damn it, answer me quickly!"
Lex patted his shoulder and shook his head: "Calm down, impulsiveness and anger cannot solve problems."
"I don't need you to teach me!" Doug slapped Lex's hand away and shouted at his subordinates behind him, "Light the lamps, we're going down!"
Soon, lanterns and torches illuminated the stairs leading to the bottom of the cabin.
Lex followed Doug down. As soon as he entered the cabin, he immediately smelled a foul odor. A Hunter's sense of smell quickly allowed Lex to distinguish that the smell contained strong liquor, urine, body odor, and a strong scent of blood.
He reached into his Pregnant and took out his golden revolver. Seeing his movement, Doug also drew his gun.
Creak—
This was the sound of feet stepping on wooden planks. The Black Bowtiess spread out, and the lights illuminated the cabin.
As soon as Lex descended into the cabin, he distinctly felt that the temperature here had dropped by at least 5 degrees Celsius compared to the deck.
Even without seeing anything yet, he could feel that the aura of death here was incredibly Rich.
Occasionally, a chilling wind, blowing from an unknown source, would whistle past his ears, like the whispers of Wraiths.
Just below the stairs, Lex saw Bridge. He was lying face down, as if crushed by a heavy object, which had caused his entire back to sink in.
Poor Bridge…
As for his bodyguard, an unknown Hunter, he had suffered an even worse fate, dismembered.
It seemed they had been attacked not long after entering the cabin.
Lex shook his head, passing by these two corpses.
Suddenly, a gasp rang out from ahead, followed by someone shouting, "Dead people, so many dead people!"
Doug's face changed upon hearing this. He pushed aside the subordinate blocking his way and jogged forward.
Lex followed him into the depths of the cabin and immediately saw that the wooden floor of the cabin was stained dark red with blood. In this dazzling red, corpses 'floated'.
Among them were Sailors clearly of Loen ethnicity, and also bronze-skinned Bayam people. They lay haphazardly, sprawled in their own blood.
"It's like a premonition of Hell," Lex murmured under his mask.
Then he noticed that the faces of these corpses did not show expressions of pain. Instead, there was a look of satisfaction, a joyful expression, as if they were enjoying pleasure.
It was as if they were still enjoying the love between a man and a woman before death arrived.
This was truly too bizarre!
As for their cause of death, it was clearly wounds to the abdomen.
Each corpse had a fist-sized gash in its abdomen, and the fresh blood that stained the cabin floor came from each of these wounds.
Lex took a lantern, squatted beside a corpse, picked up a nearby stick, and propped open the wound. The light shone into the wound, and Lex saw that the deceased's abdomen was empty.
He gasped under his mask. He believed that if he were to cut open the deceased's chest now, he probably wouldn't see any organs in the chest cavity either.
The internal organs and intestines of these corpses had all been extracted!
When he stood up, he inadvertently glimpsed a statue placed among these corpses, a statue that combined the concepts of 'tree' and 'female'.
Lex had seen the same thing in Old Lady Paris's basement before!
