Chapter 322 - Backstab

"Despicable!"

Just as Charles had anticipated, the hunter, Reily, immediately stopped, fearing he might injure the lady beside him. However, in reality, this was no lady, but merely a dummy Charles had created using illusions and Paper Dolls.

"If you don't want her to die, stay put."

Charles retreated, holding the dummy hostage, while calculating the distance in his mind.

His Flame Jump currently had a maximum range of 32 meters. He had dropped a few matches at the entrance of the cabin, and as soon as the distance between him and the cabin entrance shortened to within 32 meters, Charles could instantly reach the entrance using Flame Jump.

After that, he only needed to leave the cabin; once he blended into the crowd, he could escape the area.

I can do it.

As long as that damned hunter doesn't see through my 'performance'.

Charles continued to threaten his opponent. As he moved a few more steps, he suddenly felt a scorching heat. Below his line of sight, a fire lit up, a crimson blaze surging, as if the passionate girls from the Red Theater were rushing towards Charles.

Why?

In the flames, both Charles and the lady turned into thin Paper Dolls, and quickly disintegrated into ashes.

His figure re-emerged, and as soon as Charles reappeared, he was immediately assailed by seven or eight Fire Crows. He used cards, air bullets, and occasionally Paper Doll Substitutes, deflecting Lex's round of attacks one by one.

Even so, he still didn't understand how the hunter, Reily, had seen through his act, discerning that the woman was merely an illusion, just a Paper Doll.

Lex continued to pursue Charles. Before the hunt, Richard had already scouted the area, so Lex knew there were no passengers in the nearby rooms.

Moreover, Richard had mentioned finding a Paper Doll in one of the rooms, so how that woman appeared was self-evident.

Even after seeing through Charles's performance, Lex still secretly sighed to himself that Beyonder of the Seer pathway were truly difficult to kill. He had already disabled his magical item and eliminated his helper, but Charles, with the help of Paper Doll Substitute, had repeatedly evaded fatal attacks.

This was only Sequence 6.

It was not hard to imagine that at higher Sequences, Beyonder of this pathway would certainly be troublesome.

He himself had a 'magic ring' that allowed him to use Paper Doll Substitute and Flame Jump. Lex knew that these two convenient Spells had usage limits.

Especially Paper Doll Substitute; once all the Paper Dolls on him were used up, even if he still had spirituality, he couldn't continue using it.

The question was.

How many Paper Dolls did Charles have left?

Lex suppressed his irritation, calmly continuing to use Fire Crows and Fire Snakes to harass, and firing flaming bullets with Blood Praise. With this combination, Charles used Paper Doll Substitute twice more.

This way, only after exhausting all his Paper Dolls could a fatal blow be delivered!

While attacking, Lex also noticed that Charles was moving towards the cabin entrance. It seemed the Faceless Man was eager to escape.

Once he left the cabin, Lex knew that his opponent could use the Faceless Man's ability to blend into the crowd, and then it would be difficult to catch him.

Recalling Charles's previous escape with Flame Jump, Lex suddenly realized that Charles probably had a backup plan, such as placing matches at the cabin entrance.

This way, when the distance was right, he could use this ability to instantly reach the entrance. Even knowing that he could control flames, the Faceless Man, who possessed 'Damage Transfer,' could completely take a gamble.

Since that was the case,

Lex's expression remained unchanged as he accelerated the pace of his attacks. In addition to Fire Snakes and Fire Crows, he also created fire walls, demonstrating his determination to keep Charles in the cabin.

Charles, who had just used another Paper Doll Substitute, glanced towards the entrance. He had finally shortened the distance to within 32 meters!

Without hesitation, he snapped his fingers, and flames immediately erupted at the cabin entrance.

Seeing this, Lex did not continue attacking, but instead injected his spirituality into the 'magic ring.'

Charles's figure suddenly vanished, and almost simultaneously, he leaped out of the flames near the cabin entrance. He had already heard footsteps on the stairs above; someone had been alerted by the battle in the cabin and was coming down to investigate.

This was an excellent opportunity for him; as long as he blended into the crowd, he could Incarnate into anyone.

I can finally get rid of that damned hunter!

Just as this wonderful thought surfaced in Charles's mind, he felt a scorching heat from behind. This heat then rapidly surged into his body, passing through his heart and reaching his chest.

Time seemed to pause at this moment.

Charles clearly saw a longsword, condensed from flames, piercing out from his chest.

The tip of this sword was incandescent white, radiating high temperatures.

He managed to turn his head, and from the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of Lex's slightly dark-skinned, yet handsome face.

Charles immediately understood that Lex had also used Flame Jump, which was why he could catch up and deliver a fatal blow.

Why could he use Flame Jump? Wasn't he a Pyromaniac!

This was Charles's last thought before his eyes quickly lost their luster, and he stopped breathing.

He had been hunted by Lex!

"What, what's going on?"

"Oh my god, murder!"

Several passengers and a crew member who had come down from the deck, seeing Lex pull a longsword made of flames from the body of a man wearing a skirt at the stairwell, couldn't help but exclaim in shock.

Lex shook his hand, making the flame sword disappear, then displayed his storm emblem: "Don't be nervous, I am a collaborator of the Storm Church. I am a hunter, and I discovered someone on board attempting to cause an explosion and harm the passengers."

"Originally, I only intended to stop him, but unfortunately, he resisted fiercely, so I had no choice but to take his life."

"If you doubt my identity, you can have the captain contact the Storm Church and inquire about a hunter named Reily; they will give you a satisfactory answer."

Seeing Lex calm and composed, and also displaying the 'storm emblem,' and even proactively suggesting the captain consult the Storm Church, the crew and guests were mostly convinced.

At this point, someone recognized Lex as the gentleman who had protected Jennifer earlier in the day, and coupled with the fact that Charles, clearly a man, was wearing a skirt, which looked very evil, more and more people began to believe Lex.

Rooms near the entrance gradually opened, as passengers who had been asleep were awakened by the commotion outside. Finally, the captain also arrived. After confirming the storm emblem Lex wore, the captain stated that upon arrival in Bayam, he would consult the local church.

Only after Lex's identity was confirmed would he be allowed to disembark. Lex had no objections to this; his frankness made people believe even more that this hunter had hunted the villain out of good intentions.

"He should have an accomplice on the ship, a man with a cold demeanor. He might be a passenger on the ship, or he might be hiding in some corners of the cabin."

Lex told the captain, "You'd best send someone to find him. Don't worry, he's not much of a threat. However, he might have weapons on him. If you find him, you can notify me, and I'll help."

Lex also described the cold-looking man's specific appearance to the captain, to assist in their search.

The captain nodded, looking at Charles's corpse: "Do we need to dispose of the body?"

Lex said gravely: "No, he might be a member of some evil organization. The destruction he caused on the ship might be related to some evil ritual. I need to thoroughly investigate his body to prevent such possibilities from occurring."

The captain quickly said: "Then I'll leave it to you."

Lex then hoisted Charles's body, walked back to the room at the bottom of the cabin, and placed it alongside Sandy's body.

At this time, Sandy's corpse already had a shimmering, jelly-like object on it.

That was his beyonder characteristics!
