Till this I have always wondered how people felt about me. Were we friends or were we just acquaintances who we see once in a while in this town. Heading back home with an ice cream in my hand. I passed a playground where my friends and I used to play and now they were all gone, left this city to find their dreams, while I just lazed around freely. We kept in contact for a while but these days not a single call was answered.
Is this really how it ends? How our friendship fades away?
I start reminiscing about the past. At a convenience we always tried to steal some candy but were instantly caught. At our friend's mom's house we used to stay beside the air conditioner when it was hot outside, eating ice cream. At a small park the playground was funnest, we did so much playing on it.
It's now late in the evening as I walk back home. The light turned on, flickering. The orange hue was now lighting up in the distant sun. As I got closer to my house, a few people were at my door with oddly random items.
I counted the people
1, 2, 3, 4, 5…There's too many people to count.
They stood there talking to one another and one noticed my arrival.
"Herald, is that you?" She shouts.
They all looked in my direction. That voice, I can recognise it anywhere.
"Hazel?"
As I stepped closer they began to recognize me one by one and so did I. They all came here bringing and they all had different attires. Farmers, businessmen, Construction workers, Flight attendants and others. It was weird they were in their work clothes but then again they were always weird. The lights that used to flicker were as bright as they could be. I could see all of them. They all cheered at my arrival as they were ready to party the night away. They brought drinks and food for everybody. I asked them how they've been doing as we entered my house
We all knew each other for years and we will continue to do so. This is just another normal day. A day of happiness and joy. To our last longing friendship.
