"Seriously... I have to sleep here?"
My eye twitched at the sight in front of me.
"Well unless you want your mother to be sleeping here I suggest you suck it up."
Mr. Carrow snickered at me before exiting the break room.
The office only had one guest room, which I gave to my mother. I, on the other hand, was left with the only other option left, which was to sleep on the couch in the break room.
"Is this how they treat an injured person?"
I grumbled while lying on the couch face down.
"Tsk, what do you mean? This room is larger than my own room back at the bar."
Litch, who was sitting next to me, snapped back.
"Hah, shut up. At least you still have a bed when you return back to the Braveheart Bar later."
"But Litch, how are you going to get back to your home with your leg injured like that?"
Emily, whose voice was filled with concern, asked Litch.
"Uh-ahem, it will be hard but I will manage with the help of Bram and Hugo. I am strong after all hmph!"
Litch patted his chest while saying that.
Note at this point in time, we both were already healed by Thomas Carrow but still had to act like we were injured in front of the rest.
'Hah, what a sly fox this guy is...'
I rolled my eyes inwardly.
"But I still don't understand one thing though. Why were the two of you trapped within the burning buildings."
I froze at Emily's words.
"Its this guy's fault, he thought his mummy was trapped in the building and rushed in without thinking. Stupid right?"
"Hey! Like I told you I swore that the building still looked intact when I ran in."
"Hmph! What do you think Emily?"
"Uh... personally I think it is very sweet that Amon ran in wanting to save his mother."
"Huh?!"
Litch's brows furrowed as he slammed his hand into the couch.
Slightly flustered, she quickly clarified herself.
"I mean if it was me... I don't think I could just rush in due to fear."
"..."
Hearing that, Litch seemed to deflate as he sank deep into the couch.
'Hah. Serves him right for trying to put me down.'
I smirked at seeing his completely defeated expression.
And the best part is that he was the one who brought this on himself.
"Oh, you two must be thirsty after all that. Let me brew you some tea."
Emily quickly excused herself and exited the room, leaving me and Litch alone together.
"..."
"Hah, it seems like your plan backfired didn't it?"
"Shut up."
'Haha, seeing his face makes me want to continue to tease him.'
"If you really want I could give you advice on how to get together with Emily. As the older one out of the two of us I'm sure you will benefit from hearing--"
"Tsk, it is not like you got dating experience yourself."
At his words I felt like a vein popped out from my head.
"How would you even know if I have or not?"
"It is obvious, who would want to date a psychiatric. I personally would be driven mad if I dated someone who tried to see through and analyse every single action I do then tell me what I should do."
Another vein popped out when he said that.
"Hah. At least I am not a brat like you. Maybe you should try to be nicer then maybe Emily would like you--"
"See that is what I am talking about. Always trying to give people 'advice' on what to do better."
"..."
'Oh I want to smack him really bad... there is no one here right, it would be fine if I stood up and hit him right across the face...'
Just as I was seriously considering doing that, I heard the door to the room open.
"Hey kiddos, I heard y'all got seriously hurt in the fire. Hmm? What is with this tense atmosphere?"
Though I could not see who it was, I instantly recognised the voice to be Bram's.
'They got here faster than expected.'
Since Emily was no longer here, I decided to drop the act and sit up on the couch.
"Good evening Bram, Hugo."
"Hey! You seem fine."
"Good evening to you too."
"Mr. Carrow used his healing ability to heal our wounds but we were pretending to be hurt to trick the staff."
"Oh I see, I see."
Bram nodded while walking towards the both of us.
"Victor also told us about your situation Amon. Tomorrow I will come and visit you and bring you to the firing range to teach you how to use a gun."
Hugo, who rarely showed any emotion, spoke to me full of worry.
'Oh right, I was supposed to go with him to the firing range tomorrow... but how are we going to do that now?'
"I would be fine with that, but how exactly am I going to convince my mother to let me go? After all she still thinks I can't sit up straight and my right arm is injured."
"We could tell her that I am going to bring you to the hospital, then we secretly go to the range to practise."
"Ah ok."
'I guess that could work.'
"Click."
'Hmm?!'
I quickly flopped back down onto the couch, planting my face onto the seat.
"Oh you are already here Mr. Bram and Mr. Victor?"
Emily walked in holding a tray with two cups of hot tea.
"Yes and we will be taking Litch off your hands very soon."
Bram replied to her with a smile.
'I should be more careful, she almost caught me sitting up...'
I breathed a sigh of relief as I tried my best to act natural while she placed the cup of tea in front of me.
"Here Litch, you should drink this first before you go."
Emily handed the cup to Litch, her face shining like a star.
"Oh-uh thank you."
Litch awkwardly grabbed the cup, his face slightly red.
'Can't he make it any more obvious that he likes her?'
I looked at him in disbelief as I used my left arm to grab the cup on the table, slowly bringing it to my mouth which was hanging slightly off the couch.
Mr. Carrow then entered the room and spoke to both Hugo and Bram.
He spoke softly so I don't think Emily could hear, but I could barely make out what he said.
"I need you two to monitor Amon for any supernatural activities around him. Like for example unfortunate events or accidents. Don't write off anything even if it seems like a coincidence."
'Hmm, why though?'
My brows furrowed in confusion as I listened even more intently to their conversation.
"Also don't rely too much on the information he gives from today onwards, it might not be totally accurate in light of his recent memory loss about a certain event."
"Ok got it, I will make sure the kiddo is safe without a scratch."
Bram patted his chest, while Hugo gave a small but sure nod.
'Isn't that slightly insulting... don't trust my words. Just because my memory is a little fuzzy about something doesn't mean I am not reliable.'
I grumbled inwardly as I slowly sipped my cup of tea.
Thomas Carrow then walked forward toward us.
"Anyway it is getting late. Emily, you should head home. Bram, Hugo, help lift Litch back to your bar also. And Amon, get some rest. I will tell your mother to visit you tomorrow."
He side-eyed me while he said the last part of his sentence.
'Why can't she visit me now?'
I questioned inwardly but didn't dare say it out loud, afraid to be called a mama's boy by Litch again.
With that, everyone soon left, leaving me alone in the break room.
'Why are so many weird things happening to me lately... Hah, as much as I hate to admit it, it is all Graham's fault, that stupid fellow trying to tamper with the supernatural...'
Since no one was here anymore, I flipped over to stare at the ceiling while recalling the amount of events that happened to me the past four days.
First I lost my memories.
Then I was attacked by a wraith and almost got killed.
Next I learnt about the secret world of people with superpowers and also got attacked by Graham's remnant.
After that I took the job of a psychiatric treating victims of supernatural attacks.
Which led me to meet Henry Cooper and Lucy Harris today.
Finding out I was subconsciously having my memory tampered with, then finding out my house was robbed and burnt down,
Once again almost dying in the fire...
My life had never felt so filled before and yet...
It feels exciting somehow.
'Maybe I am actually going crazy or something. How can I think that almost dying is exciting...'
I slowly closed my eyes and allowed myself to drift off to sleep, exhausted from everything.
As I fell asleep, I found myself in an unfamiliar place once again—the same weird dream that occurred last night.
[Sweet dreams Amon, sweet dreams...]
