Walking out of the building, Gu Yuxuan unbuttoned his blazer and the fabric flew back with the wind.
He answered an incoming call as he got into the driver's seat and drove off.
"Hm", is the only thing he said and the call ended.
Time ticked off every second that passed. The speed of the car outside felt a hundred times slower inside.
He tilted his head as the tightened neck muscles sent shooting pains through his head. His dark brown eyes clouded by wrath, wearing down his usually calm expression.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally arrived at a huge mansion, welcomed by open black gates.
He drove straight through, ignoring the guards that tried to stop him.
As he climbed out, three more cars stopped beside him. Twelve men dressed in black came to stand closer to him.
At the top of the high paved entrance, Wang Lihong stood. He had a smirk on his face as if he knew Gu Yuxuan would show up.
All his guards came running to the front, blocking the intruders.
With a glare Gu Yuxuan stared him down. Disgusted by the man's audacity.
But Wang Lihong kept a calm appearance. Like he was unstoppable and untouchable.
"What brings the mighty Mr Gu to my humble mansion?" He asked, smiling under false pretence. "I don't remember sending out an invitation. Did you just show up to surprise me?"
Gu Yuxuan smiled, but clenched his fist hard. Took a deep breath before he spoke.
"Wang Lihong. Whatever way we're going to do this today, definitely won't be your way."
Wang Lihong's eyes widened and he abruptly started laughing, even doubling over while holding his stomach. "Oh", he said and continued chuckling up.
"Where is Zimo?" Gu Yuxuan asked.
Wang Lihong's guards stepped closer, but waited for him to give the command, in case they needed to attack.
After the crazy laugh, he took a deep breath and hardened his stare. "Who is Zimo?" he asked.
Gu Yuxuan was already fed up but tried hard to remain calm.
"I believe you came to the wrong person, Mr Gu" Wang Lihong continued.
"Bring Zimo out. We can talk after that."
"Mr Gu, I don't understand what you're saying."
"Stop playing dumb or I'll kill you!" Gu Yuxuan's anger burst through.
"Your impulsive behaviour just confirms you haven't mastered the craft to stand up against me." Wang Lihong said, thinning his voice as if speaking to a child.
"We'll see about that", Gu Yuxuan said. "But before that, let me give you a piece of advice instead. Relocating your disabled son won't be necessary anymore. I'm keeping a close watch."
A dark cloud swept over Wang Lihong's face, shifting his expression from pride to tense.
Not only did Gu Yuxuan feel the joy of seeing his ugly grin fade, but he got the perfect opportunity to show Wang Lihong who's really ahead of the game.
"A tragic incident covered up by the father. Interesting." Gu Yuxuan said, speaking in the same soft tone.
Wang Lihong, unable to admit or deny anything , lifted his hand to signal his guard. The guard quickly went inside, knowing what to do.
"Mr Gu, is this person important to you?" he asked.
"That's none of your business." Gu Yuxuan answered.
Wang Lihong raised his hand again and the guard stopped immediately. His mouth pulled into a smirk and he walked one step down.
"Mr Gu, even if you don't want to, you still have to show respect, right? But luckily, I'm not a petty person. I actually find it quite beautiful that you care so much about your bodyguard. You know…Not even his father care that much. Oh, talk about the devil."
A car came driving in and Su Chen got out. He anxiously looked at Gu Yuxuan and Wang Lihong.
"Mr Wang", he said. "Is there a problem?"
"Do I have a problem? Two people showed up at my mansion uninvited, how should I feel about that?"
"Mr Gu", Su Chen turned to him. "Why are you here?"
Gu Yuxuan stared at him without answering. His patience had reached its peak. Too many words were already wasted. He looked at the two men. One being a shameless schemer and the other one being a cowardly father. If he can just –
He pulled out his gun and pointed it straight at Wang Lihong with one hand.
Su Chen's eyes widened, swallowing hard.
Wang Lihong's eyes froze on Gu Yuxuan holding the gun. Although his confidence slightly dropped, he could still maintain his calm composure.
As Gu Yuxuan walked closer to the paved wall, the guards blocked him.
"Let him through", Wang Lihong instructed and the guards slowly moved aside.
Gu Yuxuan pulled the hammer and started walking up the steps. When he got to the fourth step, he saw Zimo kneeling on the ground. His mouth was covered in blood and his eyes were red and swollen. A guard stood behind him, holding his shoulder.
"You actually came", Zimo thought as a smile crept onto his red lips.
"Ridiculous!" Gu Yuxuan thought, looking at him. "What is he smiling for?"
As he made his way to the top, he went to stand right in front of Wang Lihong.
"Not even his father would dare to do this. Why would you?" Wang Lihong asked.
"Because I'm not a coward."
Su Chen looked down in shame.
"Whether you took him because of me or your own personal reasons, I will find out. And I will hold you accountable."
For a while, they only stared at each other. Both men equally competitive.
"I can release him, on one condition."
"Speak", Gu Yuxuan said.
"You can't go after my son."
"Okay", Gu Yuxuan agreed.
"Let him go."
The guard pushed Zimo towards him.
"I won't go after your son, FOR NOW."
A jolt of shock ran through Wang Lihong's body. If he was able to cut off Gu Yuxuan's head at that moment, he wouldn't hesitate.
Gun still pointed at him, Gu Yuxuan took Zimo's arm and they walked down the stairs.
Zimo's eyes sparkled, gazing at the most irresistibly attractive man he had ever seen.
As they made it down the stairs, Gu Yuxuan cast a cold glance at Su Chen before getting into the car. Gu Yuxuan drove.
All the men soon cleared the entrance, leaving only Su Chen standing.
Wang Lihong gave a sharp turn and walked into the house. And Su Chen slowly made his way up the stairs.
When he got into the gigantic home, Wang Lihong was already waiting for him ahead. He continued slowly walking towards him.
"Su Chen, you can't even control your son now! Didn't I tell you to get him away from Gu Yuxuan? Why did he show up then!?"
"Mr Wang, calm down. I've tried several times but Zimo is a stubborn child. I'm afraid I can't control him anymore."
"You what!? You can't control him?" Wang Lihong pointed at him. "How dare you say that to my face?"
"Mr Wang…"
"If you can't control him then I'll kill him. Is that what you want?"
"Mr Wang, there's no need to go that far." Su Chen begged.
"Get out of my face" Wang Lihong said and walked further down into the house.
Su Chen's face dripped with sweat as he exhaled a deep sigh. He turned back and started walking out. His mind drifted to Zimo.
"You now have someone to protect you, but you made things worse. It won't end well, and you can't hide from it"
