Chapter 21 - Changing Overnight

A burly man stood in front of the orderly soldiers and said, "Everyone, the barbarians are attacking the town near the southern border. This time, we will kill them all so they won't dare to come back!"

His voice was imbued with internal energy and echoed through the area. Hearing his words, the soldiers raised their spears and shouted in unison, "Kill! Kill! Kill!"

The Captain nodded at them and said, "Depart!"

Following his order, the soldiers turned and left the barracks in an orderly manner. Their boots striking the ground caused it to shake.

While they were marching to fight the enemies, the commoners living near the border received the news. It was summer, and it had been several months without rain.

So, it was no wonder that the barbarians continued to harass their border due to the severe drought. Besides looting the villages located along the border, the barbarians had no other way to survive.

What's more, this was neither the first nor the last time a small-scale war had broken out on the border. Therefore, when the commoners heard about the war, they continued with their usual daily routines even though they cursed at them for their cruelty.

Meanwhile, Yao Zhi woke up when the sun rose from the eastern horizon.

When she tried to open her eyes, she was stunned as she felt a layer of sticky mud covering not only her face but also her entire body. Fortunately, her nostrils were not covered. Otherwise, she would have died from suffocation in her sleep.

After calming down, she peeled off the mud covering her eyelids. A moment later, she finally managed to open her eyes and check her condition.

Staring at the sticky mud on the bamboo bed and her body, she could only resign herself to fate and went to the yard to clean herself.

Since it was summer and the villagers were busy harvesting their crops, no one saw her condition at all. Using the wooden bucket, she drew some water from the well and used a piece of coarse cloth to clean her face and arms.

While she scrubbed her body, Yao Zhi finally realized that something was off. She blinked her eyes several times and pinched her belly. The moment her hand touched a soft but firm abdomen, her eyes widened in shock.

She quickly returned to the house and undressed herself.

The moment the oversized clothes were taken off, she saw her flat belly and long legs. Reaching out, she touched her chin. Unlike before, she no longer found her double chin. Instead, she felt a slim chin under the thick layer of sticky mud.

After she discovered that she was no longer a chubby girl and had turned into a slim girl overnight, Yao Zhi took several deep breaths. Thanks to the sharp, stinky scent, she quickly recovered her composure.

Five minutes later, she took out her items needed for a bath from her shop's warehouse.

Before she went out, she suddenly remembered that she had obtained a river from the blind box yesterday. Since she now had a river in her spatial farm, she no longer needed to draw water from the well for bathing.

Using the river water, she filled the plastic basin and added three drops of spiritual spring. Afterward, she took a long bath and cleaned herself thoroughly.

When she was done, she rummaged through the cabinet but couldn't find any fitting clothes. Without a choice, she opened the system shop and bought two sets of clothes with a similar design to the ones worn in this era. Each set cost her fifty points.

Thinking about the undergarments in this era, Yao Zhi could imagine how her best friends, Samantha and Rachel, would turn out in the future. Just thinking about how saggy they would be, she shuddered and decisively bought five sets of underwear. Each set cost her five points.

After spending some points, she finally changed into the new clothes. While it was better to wash the clothes first before wearing them, she really had no other choice now. The clothes she owned were too big for her current size.

As before, she dried her hair until it was seventy percent dry and tied it into a high bun before using a headscarf to cover her hair.

When she finished tidying herself up, she stored everything in her shop's warehouse, including the water inside the plastic basin. Yao Zhi looked at the icon of the plastic basin and muttered, "So, I can also store the water inside the basin."

With this new discovery, she no longer worried about how to dispose of her bath water.

Now that she had finished cleaning herself, it was time to clean her bed. Walking closer, she saw that the sticky mud had not only stained the thin bed cover and her blanket but had even seeped into the bamboo bed.

Since the sticky mud had penetrated the bamboo, it was impossible to clean the bed completely. She thought for a moment and decided to change the bed.

Recalling her husband's tall figure, she opened the system shop and bought a queen-size wooden bed made of oak wood. While the quality of the bed was good, it was expensive, costing her one thousand points.

Besides the bed, she also bought two cotton bedspreads, two cotton blankets, and a framed hanging mosquito net. It was summer, and the mosquitoes in this era were poisonous. With one bite, she would end up with a big bump!

She spent another one hundred eighty points for these items. When she was done shopping, she had one hundred thirteen thousand three hundred ninety-nine points left.

Yao Zhi stored the bamboo bed in her shop's warehouse before cleaning the room. After the room no longer smelled bad, she took out the oak bed and put up the mosquito net.

With the double bedding, the wooden bed was not hard and was much more comfortable compared to the bamboo bed. "Finally done!" she exclaimed as she stretched her limbs.
