Chapter 311 – Not Very Harmful!
Darren naturally noticed Black's resistance.
He almost burst out laughing.
Good grief.
This guy must have been traumatized way too deeply by Slytherins.
But he wasn't in a hurry to feed him yet.
Although feeding him was necessary to complete the task, Black was simply too entertaining. Darren definitely had to squeeze some extra "Holy Father Value" out of him.
Still smiling, Darren said, "Don't cling to me like that. Relax, I'm not leaving you behind. We just need some equipment."
Black's dog face twisted as if he wanted to curse out loud.
He wanted to say something but held back.
What could possibly "equip" him? What could a mere kid wizard do?
Then he froze.
Because Darren took out a necklace.
A delicate women's necklace.
This brat wasn't planning to put a woman's necklace on him, right?
Insulting. Deeply insulting.
Not harmful… but extremely humiliating.
"Woof! Woof! Woof!"
Black barked angrily at the necklace, but Darren grabbed his front paws, and no matter how wildly he struggled, he couldn't break free.
"You noticed it too? This necklace is unusual?"
Darren sounded genuinely surprised.
Black did notice.
He also didn't feel any better.
Even if it had special abilities, he didn't want it!
But then the alchemical aura hit him.
His eyes widened.
This was… alchemy?
Sirius Black had always been fascinated by alchemical creations.
Normally he would have noticed instantly, but Azkaban had dulled his senses.
Right now he just wasn't sure what this chain did.
"I bought this necklace during summer vacation when I visited my teacher's home… in France."
"A Beauxbatons girl broke it. I wanted to compensate her… somehow she ended up giving it to me."
Darren sighed with frustration and melancholy.
Black rolled his eyes.
He did NOT care about this brat's dramatic tales of saving depressed French girls.
It was typical: kid helps crying girl → gets rewarded → acts humble.
He himself had done similar things. He just never got 100,000 Galleons for it.
Alchemical products being expensive was normal.
What mattered was: what exactly did the chain do?
Before he could think further, Darren suddenly slipped the chain over his head.
"I don't want to use my family's money," Darren explained calmly. "Everything belongs to my brother. So I promised everyone that I'd earn my own way for four years."
Black pouted.
Why not use the money at home?
Wasn't this child James's son too?
At least he had Lily's blood.
Why be so stubborn?
But those thoughts disappeared the moment he felt his body change.
He looked down—
His fur… was white.
White?
Forgive Sirius's confusion.
There was no mirror. He didn't know what he had turned into. Just that he was no longer a big black dog.
What the hell?
Animagus appearance… could be changed?
Even if interest was high, this was worth the 200,000 Galleons!
With this form, as long as he didn't act too intelligent, he could exist as a normal animal in the wizarding world.
No one would suspect him.
He even imagined Pettigrew seeing him like this—staring dumbly before getting torn apart.
Black felt himself growing excited.
A few moments ago, he didn't want the necklace.
Now, even if Darren begged, he wouldn't take it off.
"It still isn't perfect…" Darren murmured.
Black snapped his head up.
Perfect? This wasn't perfect?
"This chain needs an invisibility function. Otherwise someone might take it off."
Black sneered inwardly.
With results like this, what would a little kid know?
Changing an Animagus form was already insane. Whoever crafted this necklace must have been a master.
As if sensing Black's disdain, Darren added casually:
"Oh, I made it myself."
Black froze.
Jaw open.
He looked unbelievably stupid.
Darren almost burst out laughing.
"Miss Delacour gave me the broken chain. I thought it'd be wasteful not to use the material."
"I wanted to make a necklace that made someone prettier, as a gift for her… but I messed up. Instead, it transforms people into animals."
"So I can't return something like this to her. For now, you use it. When I have time, I'll make another one properly."
"My talent isn't very good. If I were as talented as my teacher, I might already be able to make magic stones. My teacher is the best."
Darren spoke with full sincerity.
Black was stunned.
This brat… made THIS?
From the broken chain of the French girl?
And said he was "too stupid"?
Was that true?
Then he remembered Darren asking about alchemy earlier…
It suddenly seemed possible.
Could this kid actually be… a prodigy?
