Chapter 32 - Chapter 31

Hiro and Nozomi traded a sharp, heavy look across the crimson-lit bridge. The residual laughter from their prank vanished entirely, replaced by a cold, calculating stillness. Through their shared mental link, their energy systems calibrated to an absolute combat footing, their tethered souls pulsing with raw, concentrated power.

"Nicky," Hiro said, his voice dropping into a flat, steady resonance that completely bypassed his usual high-school persona. "This is it. This is exactly what we were sent here to handle."

Nozomi stepped forward, her black eyes locking onto the flashing red data points mapping the London grid on the main monitors. "You need to authorize an immediate deployment for the two of us right now. Don't waste time trying to assess things from here. Send us in first, and call for the Avengers as backup."

Fury didn't hesitate. The absolute gravity in the twins' voices told him everything his global intelligence network couldn't yet process. He slammed his palm onto the primary hangar communications deck. "Get Stealth Jet Alpha fueled and on the launch pad right now! Manual override on all departure clearances!" He snapped his head toward his deputy. "Hill! Contact the Avengers. Every single one of them. Tell them we have a reality threat unfolding in the UK."

"On it, Director," Hill responded, her fingers already flying across the priority encryption keys to trigger the global assembly beacon.

Within minutes, the sleek, black stealth jet cleared the helicarrier's lower hangar doors, its cloaking matrix active as its thrusters ignited with a muffled roar, rocketing across the Atlantic toward the European airspace at maximum speed.

Meanwhile, across the ocean, London was unspooling into an absolute living nightmare. Because the attack had come completely out of nowhere, the streets were still packed with panicked civilians.

The historical architecture of the city didn't just crumble; it was being fundamentally rewritten by an invasive, unknown force of nature. Massive, jagged tears bled a static, color-draining mist across the sky, turning the vibrant streets of Westminster into a featureless, gray grid. The Thames was churning violently, its waters freezing into strange, geometric shards.

Buildings were folding like origami. Heavy stone columns from ancient structures were breaking apart mid-air, floating suspended in space as gravity fluctuated wildly. The air was so heavy it left the fleeing crowds gasping, crackling with a terrifying, high-frequency hum that short-circuited every electronic device within a five-mile radius. Screams echoed from every corner as people ran blindly, tripping over shattered pavement.

From the largest spatial tear above the city, the core of the anomaly descended.

It was The Broken Continuum (The Mirror Warden). The towering, featureless figure was draped in shifting, metallic robes woven from liquid starlight. Its face was a massive, slowly rotating crystalline prism that refracted fractured pieces of time, leaving ripples of frozen, distorted space trailing in its wake. It didn't possess a human consciousness; it was a multiversal infection designed to forcibly freeze the world into a static, unchanging mirror dimension where nothing could ever move, grow, or die.

A sharp boom echoed across the sky as Stealth Jet Alpha ripped through the cloud cover.

Before the aircraft could even execute a standard landing sequence, the rear bay doors hissed open. Hiro and Nozomi didn't bother with parachutes. In a single, coordinated motion, they dropped the glamour field completely.

FWOOSH!

Their plush fox ears twitched instantly as they adjusted to the static, and their matching sets of five black, glossy tails fluffed out, catching the rushing wind. Nozomi channeled her mana, wrapping both of them in a weightless, descending glide, while Hiro primed his system for high-velocity impact.

They hit the gray, concrete plaza with a deafening thud, the shockwave from Hiro's landing shattering the remaining glass windows of the surrounding shops.

The moment their boots settled onto the altered ground, the rotating crystalline prism of The Mirror Warden snapped violently in their direction. It didn't possess eyes, yet a wave of absolute, unadulterated malice rippled outward from its liquid-starlight body, turning the falling mist into razor-sharp icicles.

Because the twins carried the deeply rooted, warm energy of Death's original blessing within their linked souls, the Anomaly recognized them instantly. It knew exactly what they were. They weren't just local defenders; they were the cosmic antibodies sent to execute it.

The entity let out a high-pitched, grinding screech that vibrated directly through the air, completely rattling their skulls.

'It really hates us,' Nozomi noted through their telepathic link, her five black tails flaring as she floated an inch off the ground, her black eyes locked onto the threat.

'Good,' Hiro replied, his matching black eyes sharpening as his own five tails flared, falling into a low, predatory crouch. 'Makes it easier to hunt. But look around. The priority isn't just killing it—we have to keep these people alive.'

The Mirror Warden struck first. It swung its massive, crystalline staff through the air, and the concrete ground of the plaza instantly folded upward like origami, attempting to crush a group of terrified tourists huddled near a red phone booth.

Hiro reacted with split-second instinct, completely changing his trajectory. Instead of attacking the Warden, he blasted sideways, his five tails trailing silver sparks.

PRIMAL OBLIVION: RAGNAROK DRIVE!

Silver aura exploded around his frame, wild and unrestrained, his muscles expanding as his ever-adapting body went into absolute overdrive to counter the crushing pressure. He slid directly between the falling concrete and the civilians.

FANGS OF THE SOUL!

Purple, soul-infused energy flared across his arms, forming razor-sharp spectral claws that hissed against the static mist. He sliced upward, his claws reducing the crushing stone slab to harmless powder just inches above the tourists' heads. "Run! Get to the underground tunnels!" Hiro barked, using his tails to gently sweep them toward safety.

Opposite him, the Mirror Warden capitalized on the distraction. The entity swung its staff again, creating a labyrinth of glass reflections that warped the space around Nozomi. A massive, jagged shard of reality shot outward, heading directly toward a double-decker bus packed with trapped passengers.

Nozomi rose higher into the air, her black eyes tracking the incoming threat instantly. She completely aborted her offensive spell, pivoting her focus to the civilians.

CELESTIAL WEAVE!

Golden ribbons unfurled from her palms in a fluid, blinding storm. Instead of binding the Warden, the ribbons snapped outward, weaving themselves into a dense, glowing web directly in front of the bus. The jagged reality shard slammed into her golden weave, generating a harsh, blinding explosion of light. The force fractured the air, but the bus remained completely untouched.

'Hiro! I can't bind it while the area is this crowded!' Nozomi shouted through their link, her body flickering as she prepared for the next wave.

DIVINE SILHOUETTE!

Her body split into six perfect illusions, scattered across the plaza. One clone grabbed a falling child mid-air; another deflected an icicle barrage aimed at a fleeing family. The real Nozomi gracefully drifted onto a floating piece of rubble, her enhanced mind constantly running calculations to alternate between high-speed rescues and holding the Warden's attention.

The Warden glitched violently, annoyed by their defensive success. It channeled a massive surge of white, color-draining light into its crystalline staff, preparing a wide-area shockwave that would freeze the entire plaza—and every civilian still trapped on it—into a permanent mirror reflection.

Hiro blasted forward, his feet shattering the ground as he used a floating piece of debris as a launching pad. "Not on my watch!" he roared.

FERAL TORRENT!

Dozens of silver energy bullets materialized overhead, spinning with predatory hunger before raining down in a fierce volley directly at the Warden's face. The explosions erupted violently against the entity's liquid-starlight shield, fracturing its concentration and forcing it to redirect the incoming shockwave skyward, saving the remaining crowds below.

Hiro hit the ground hard, his chest heaving as his ever-adapting body fought off the localized sickness trying to slow his blood flow. He wiped a streak of silver aura from his chin, his black eyes burning with determination as he stood back-to-back with Nozomi, their ten black tails swaying in perfect, chaotic harmony.

"We have to buy more time," Hiro muttered, his gaze tracking a group of stragglers still evacuating the far edge of the plaza.

Nozomi nodded, her black eyes cold and focused as the blaring spatial alarms echoed through the gray mist. Far above them, the global comms channels were a chaotic mess of static as S.H.I.E.L.D. tried to guide the incoming Avengers toward the zone.

But with a stadium's worth of lives hanging in the balance, the twins couldn't afford to wait. They had to keep fighting.
