Chapter 28 - Chapter 28 Gwen: I must send my family to the grave immediately

However, Brucey couldn't maintain this "I am Cup Noodles!" atmosphere for more than a minute before a team of Police rushed into the alley.

The young Chief Gordon, who was leading them, froze the moment he saw the child between the two bodies.

Looking at the girl's numb expression, he gritted his teeth and proceeded to examine the condition of the two bodies first.

The two bodies lay on the ground, blood slowly flowing from their chests, clearly having been shot recently.

Judging by the bullet wounds on the bodies... it felt like they could still be saved?

No, that wasn't right; he had received the alarm call at least 10 minutes ago.

However, when he saw who the two deceased individuals on the ground were, the young Chief Gordon felt a chill in his heart.

Thomas Wayne and Martha Wayne.

He never expected them to die here... Gordon slowly shook his head, his eyes filled with helplessness and regret.

Finally, he turned his gaze to Brucey, who was standing there in a daze.

The child's eyes were hollow and lifeless, filled with endless grief and despair.

"Child, what's your name?" Gordon tried to soften his voice, attempting to ask about the culprit.

But Brucey seemed to be in another World, immersed in immense pain and unable to extricate herself, just staring blankly at Gordon, completely unresponsive to his questions.

Meanwhile, Harvey Bullock was discussing with the others how to trick another team of Police into coming over.

The deceased were the Waynes! They didn't want to take on this mess!

Just then, another team rushed in from the alley entrance.

Leading them was a short man, slightly hunched, with an indescribably shifty air about his face, his beady eyes revealing cunning.

They hurried to the bodies, quickly unfurled body bags, placed Thomas and Martha's bodies inside, and prepared to carry them out.

Although Gordon was comforting Brucey, he also noticed the unusual actions of this team.

"Stop! Who are you?" he sharply yelled, his voice echoing in the narrow alley.

The idle Police nearby were startled by the shout and looked in Gordon's direction, only then realizing that such a group of people had entered.

The short man, his face wreathed in smiles, stepped forward, his high-pitched voice carrying a hint of flattery: "Chief, we're here to transport the bodies. The deceased are important members of the Wayne Family, and the higher-ups specifically instructed us to take them back for autopsy immediately."

Gordon's gaze was sharp as he scrutinized the group: "Why haven't I seen you before?"

The short man, unperturbed, pulled out an ID badge from his in arms and handed it to Gordon with both hands: "Mr. Gordon, you truly are forgetful. Look, this is my ID."

Gordon took the ID and glanced at it; the information on it showed that the other party was indeed Police personnel responsible for transporting bodies.

Gordon was full of suspicion, carefully examining it, but he couldn't find any flaws.

With all the proper identification, and the other party insisting they were ordered by superiors to collect the bodies, he was momentarily undecided.

Nevertheless, Gordon still said sternly: "I haven't even finished the on-site investigation here, how can you just collect the bodies like this?"

The short man still wore a fake smile and pulled out another document: "Mr. Gordon, you must be too busy to remember. Didn't you just finish the on-site investigation? Look, this is the investigation record."

Gordon looked at the document handed to him and immediately frowned.

No, when did I conduct an on-site investigation?

I haven't, have I? Haven't I?

Hiss... Suddenly, Gordon began to doubt himself.

Could it be that he had really finished the on-site investigation?

It seems the work pressure has been too great recently, he even forgot about this.

Shaking his head, and after confirming the information was correct, Gordon raised his hand to brush off the ash clinging to it, then turned back to continue softly comforting Brucey.

At the same time, the team of transporters, carrying the body bags containing Thomas and Martha's bodies, quickly boarded a minivan that was already waiting nearby, under the short man's direction.

The minivan started and slowly drove along the street.

Before it even turned the first corner, the vehicle stopped, and the door slid open with a "whoosh."

Under the command of the short leader, everyone carefully moved the body bags out of the vehicle.

Then, the minivan drove off in a cloud of dust, leaving the two body bags abandoned in the alley.

The minivan circled the area, and ten minutes later, the same minivan quietly returned.

Several people got out of the vehicle. When they returned to the small corner of the alley, they cautiously looked around, and only after confirming no one was present did they carefully approach the body bags.

As they reopened the body bags, these people couldn't help but gasp in shock—what was inside were not bodies at all, but clearly two mannequin models from a clothing store window!

A burly man, his face full of surprise, stammered: "Are... are we really going to send these two models to the Police station and tell them these are the Wayne Couple's bodies?"

The short leader's expression was calm, without a hint of panic, and he said serenely: "Yes, that's what we'll do."

The other burly men heard this and all showed worried expressions. One of them frowned and said: "What if we're found out?"

The short leader sneered, a hint of disdain in his tone: "So what if we're found out? This is a mission personally ordered by Minister Falkland."

Seeing the bewildered faces of those around him, who hadn't yet reacted, the short leader couldn't help but roll his eyes and said: "Haven't you heard the story of 'pointing to a deer as a horse' from ancient China?"

The burly men looked at each other and shook their heads. The short leader sighed and patiently began to tell the story: "In ancient China, there was a corrupt official with immense power. To test which civil and military officials were loyal to him, one day, he had a deer brought in and presented it to the emperor, claiming it was a thousand-mile horse."

"The emperor looked left and right, and doubtfully said that this was clearly a deer, how could it be a horse? The corrupt official then asked the other officials whether it was a deer or a horse. Some, to curry favor with the corrupt official, said it was a horse; while those unwilling to betray their conscience insisted it was a deer."

"In the end, those who spoke the truth were all deemed dissenters by the corrupt official, either framed with various charges and driven out of the court, or brutally murdered."

"Children, what does this story teach us?"

The strong men looked at each other, then shook their heads.

"That would naturally be... everything the boss says is right!" At this point, the short leader's expression turned fierce.

However, he quickly controlled his expression again, pointed at the mannequin models on the ground, and with a kind smile, asked: "Now, I ask you, are these mannequin models, or the Wayne Couple's bodies?"

Only then did everyone realize, and they scrambled to say: "These are the Wayne Couple's bodies!"
