Chapter 19 - CHAPTER NINETEEN: RETURN TO SAFETY

EMILY'S POV

The ride felt long, but the wolves' presence made it feel safer. Their eyes flicked constantly to the tree lines, alert, while I sat between them in the back, still processing the promise of Grandma's secrecy and the weight of my powers.

Tyler and Mason led the way, navigating through winding roads and dense forest until the landscape began to change. The air grew crisper, scented with pine and earth, and the buildings started to look older, sturdier — stone and timber, not the modern bricks of the city.

"This is it," Tyler said, his voice low. "My village. Havenwood."

I blinked, taking in the sight. Havenwood was small but strong. Cobblestone streets curved naturally with the hills. From a distance, I could see a central square with a fountain, its water sparkling in the sunlight. The village felt… alive. Safe. A stark contrast to the danger we had just fled.

The wolves' senses immediately sharpened. They stiffened as we entered the village, then relaxed as Tyler signaled the paths and houses that were allies. I could sense their approval radiating like a protective shield around us.

As we neared a cottage at the edge of town, Mason's pace quickened. I noticed a woman waiting by the doorway — her dark hair pulled back, eyes scanning the road. The moment she saw Mason, she ran toward him, and he broke into a grin I had never seen before.

"Ria!" he called.

She leapt into his arms, and for the first time, I saw Mason truly relax. His mate, his other half, holding him tightly as if she could anchor him in this chaotic world. I couldn't help but smile at the sight.

Tyler guided us toward another part of the village, showing me the streets and the natural barriers — hills, rivers, and ancient trees — that made Havenwood nearly impossible for outsiders to navigate without help. The houses were cozy but fortified subtly with magic and traditional craftsmanship. It was clearly a village built for both comfort and protection.

The wolves flanked me as we walked, their human forms blending seamlessly with the village crowd, yet their loyalty and readiness were palpable. I felt safer here than anywhere since my powers had awakened.

"This place… it feels alive," I whispered, more to myself than anyone.

Tyler glanced at me, eyes soft. "It is. And now it's our shield. Here, you can train, learn to control your powers, and stay one step ahead of the hunters."

I nodded, determination settling in my chest. The journey ahead would be dangerous, but for the first time, I wasn't facing it alone. With Tyler, Mason, the wolves, and the safety of Havenwood, I had a chance to grow into the First-Blood I was meant to be.

And I was ready to start.
