The others listened quietly, though their brows rose at the revelation, Zenovia's more so than the others since this was the first time she had heard anything about it.
Marilyn took a deep breath.
"A few days ago, the duke received word that you had returned to Grimholt. You could say he was rather ecstatic to learn that you had finally been located."
She paused briefly.
"My information also says that you owned a respectable manor in the city's upper district."
Elion's eyes narrowed.
He was slowly beginning to understand where this was going.
"My manor was attacked," Elion said, his voice losing some of its earlier warmth.
Marilyn nodded slowly.
"The duke arrived in Grimholt shortly after receiving word that you had been seen there. He brought a considerable number of warriors and several powerful mages with him, apparently expecting you to still be inside the city."
"And when he did not find me?"
