Elion stepped into the office after Maya, looking entirely unbothered by the sarcasm in Marilyn's voice.
"I would have arrived sooner, but certain circumstances made that rather difficult."
"Certain circumstances?" Marilyn repeated, leaning back in her chair. "You disappeared without a word, missed your duel, and returned more than a week later. I would say those circumstances must have been rather serious."
Her gaze moved slowly over him, taking in the strange mismatched eyes that immediately drew her attention.
Marilyn found herself staring for longer than she intended.
The golden eye was striking enough on its own, but the other resembled a dark night sky filled with countless distant stars.
Looking into it gave her the unsettling feeling that she was gazing into an endless space rather than a human pupil.
She quickly broke eye contact when she felt her mind start to get a bit hazy.
"What happened to your eyes?"
"It is a long story."
