"I brought you flowers," Nico said as he handed them to his girlfriend Remi.
It was Valentine's Day so of course he had brought flowers for her. Jewelry felt too expensive and Remi never really liked chocolate either. So he was left with flowers. he didn't want cheesy roses so he took the cheapest thing. Lilies.
"Thanks," Remi said with a weak smile on her face.
"You don't like them, do you?" Nico asked.
"No, I love..."
"Lilies."
"Yeah, lilies that's the word. Anyways we should really leave for school now."
Remi got into Nico's car and they headed off to school. Nico's phone started ringing on the way. He checked who it was and immediately turned his phone off. Remi thought it was strange but said nothing of it. Instead she had something else bothering her.
"New phone?" Remi asked," Didn't you have another one like just last month?"
"Yeah but that one got stolen at that festival I went to last week."
"I feel like I see you with a new phone every month. Where do you even get the money for it?"
"Well th-" Remi was cut off by the sound of the car stopping and hitting a small post ahead slightly.
"Yikes." Nico said as he got out of the car and looked at it. Thankfully there wasn't any damage to it."
As usual murmurs all eyes were on them when they got out. Nico was captain of the school's football team and an A student while Remi was the ace of the school's basketball team and a top performer as well. Add that to their looks and no wonder everyone in the school either wanted to be them or date them.
"We'll talk later,"Nico said as he kissed her gently and headed off to class.
Nico was in class thinking about Remi's earlier reactions when he felt a touch from the back. It was his friend Gray. He could tell something was up with Nico. Nico kept silent all throughout class time never giving him a serious answer. During lunch the pair sat together and Nico finally talked of how he suspected Remi was upset with him.
"Of course she is! What kind of guy still gets a girl flowers for Valentines nowadays? You should have gotten her something special or at least taken her out," Gray said in a way that only got Nico annoyed.
"For someone without a girl you sure do talk a lot," Nico said as his response of getting back at him.
"You know what they say don't you?"
"What?"
"Coaches don't play."
"Cause you suck at it."
Gray told him that he should take her out that night to try and make up for things before its late. Nico wasn't sure of the idea but agreed to go through with it nonetheless. Gray gave him the address to a place he was told would be great to go for Valentines. He said he couldn't go cause he had somewhere else to be. Nico read the address before texting Remi to meet him after school.
After school, he found her leaning back on his car already waiting for him. He told her about the place he heard about and asked if she would be free that night. Remi's face lit up as she hugged him excitedly and agreed to date night.
They both immediately went to their homes to prepare for the date. Nico was greeted with a sweet scent as soon as he entered the house.
"What's smelling so good?" he asked as he stopped in the kitchen and took a good whiff.
"Glad you're home sweetie. I'm finishing making dinner. Why don't you go set up the table?" Nico's mother, Mrs. Xander, said.
"Actually I can't eat here today." Nico replied.
"Why not? " Nico's father, Mr. Xander, asked as he stepped into the kitchen and took a glass of water.
"I'm going out with Remi tonight, " Nico replied as he tried to sneak a peek into what was being made.
"Do you have to go out tonight?" Mr. Xander asked, " Your mom took a lot of time took make everything ca-"
"It's fine sweetie," Mrs. Xander said cutting her husband off, "It's Valentines let the kids have fun. And maybe we can have some fun of our own," she said the last part in a whispered tone but Nico still managed to hear it.
"Eugh. I'm definitely not staying now," he said as he left for his room.
In his room he quickly started looking for clothes and preparing himself. Once he was done he decided to leave. They had decided to meet at a nearby park so that Nico can take her there as a surprise. He got there at around eight o'clock only to find Remi wasn't there. He waited on one of the swings for her for some time. Finally, he got a call from her.
"So, so sorry. Some family stuff came up so I can't make it tonight, " Remi told him over the phone.
"It's fine just wish you would have told me sooner."
"Sorry. I'll make it up to you. I promise."
"No really, it's fine. I get it."
Remi apologized again before hanging up. Nico kept swinging as he wondered what he'd do now. He was about to head back when he decided he could still visit Gray's spot even without Remi. With that he headed off to see what it was all about.
Nico arrived at the spot to see it was nothing like he expected. He was now thankful that Remi hadn't shown up. You could say it was a good place, if you were single, but definitely not for couples. After all it was a goddamn club!
Nico facepalmed himself for being the idiot in this situation. Of course the single man was told to go to a club on Valentines. The right choice here would have been to turn around and head back home. We don't always make the right choices though. He was already eighteen as well. That's how Nico ended up spending Valentines in a club.
Nico woke up the following day with one hell of a hangover. He was having one hell of a headache as well. It was about noon when he woke up. Thankfully it was a Saturday so there was no school. He checked his phone to see several missed calls from Remi and his parents. He was scrolling his phone through the messages while trying to remember what had happened last night when he saw a message that shook him to his bones. It completely sobered him up. It was the last thing he ever wanted to see. It was short but still had Nico staring at it for quite some time as if hoping it would somehow change.
"Welcome back to Sugarhouse Mr. N."
