I got home and placed it on my lap. My heart was still racing even after the whole day. I slowly opened it..
Just to see that the title was printed out my heart seemed to stop. I stared at the real title. "TNR Guide for kids" I almost cried right there. Then I looked at the price tag. 5.99 ,"SALE". I felt the tears weld up in my eyes.
My throat tightened. Then I hear mom say "Do you like the gift?" in an expecting tone. "Yeah.." I said trying to act normal even while my stomach was doing flips. I slowly walked towards my room, my happiness fading as I held the book.
Of course they won't buy the TNR book. It's okay… I tried consoling myself but as someone once said, "Keeping thoughts to yourself when you are sad only hurts yourself.". (Author's note: I don't remember where I heard it before, :p)
But then I already forgot the advice. I slowly saw my vision blur as one tear fell. Then another, and another, now I was fully crying but trying to keep it quiet as I heard Hano come back home and he sounded grumpy.
"Ugh, can't people just shut up sometimes? LIke, dude the world doesn't revolve are you, duh." I heard Hano complain. I knew he wasn't talking about me but in that moment I felt unnoticed and less than my family.
