Chapter 22 - The next day.

This is probably the first time in her life, including her previous one, that she ate such food filled with rich flavor and calories.

After all, being a soldier from a young age, she had to abandon all kinds of oily or spicy and even fried foods and she had to always maintain a special diet just to maintain the ridiculously strong and fit body that she had attained in her previous life.

After dinner, Bai Li took a warm and relaxing bath in the large and luxurious bathtub. She felt refreshed and quickly went to bed in the master bedroom. The bed was extremely soft and felt quite comfortable to lie on. She quickly fell asleep as she was quite mentally exhausted.

..

..

At six in the morning, Bai Li woke up to the faint light slipping through the curtains. Her eyes opened slowly, and for a moment she just lay there, letting her mind catch up with her body. The bed was warm and comfortable, which made getting up a little harder than usual. But she forced herself to sit up, stretched her arms a bit, and headed to the bathroom.

She washed her face with cool water, brushed her teeth, and tied her hair loosely. The mirror showed a calm expression, but her eyes still looked half asleep. After drying her hands, she walked out into the quiet living room, the soft carpet making her steps almost soundless.

She sat down on the couch and grabbed the remote from the table. With one click, the smart TV came to life, switching between morning news channels. Reporters talked about traffic, stock market updates, celebrity gossip, and weather forecasts. Everything looked normal. Too normal. Bai Li watched it all with a blank expression, knowing that in a few weeks none of this would matter anymore.

Still, she let it play in the background. The noise filled the silence and made the apartment feel less empty.

While listening to the news, she unlocked her phone and opened a food delivery app. She scrolled through the breakfast section without much excitement. Sandwiches, porridge, fried dough, milk tea, omelets, pancakes. After thinking for a second, she ordered something simple. A hot bowl of congee with shredded chicken, two steamed buns, and a cup of warm soy milk. Nothing fancy, just enough to start her day.

Once the order was placed, she set her phone aside and leaned back on the couch. The sun was rising slowly outside, painting the sky in soft orange. She looked at it for a few moments but didn't get lost in it. Her mind was already planning things, listing tasks, timing schedules. She quickly opened her phone interface and started searching for renovation companies in Jinghua city and their details for the next 20 minutes or so.

About thirty minutes later, her phone buzzed with a notification. The food had arrived. Bai Li got up, slipped on her slippers, and went to the front door. She opened it and picked up the neatly packed bag sitting outside. The delivery driver had already left.

She carried the food back to the dining table, opened the containers, and a warm smell filled the air. She ate quietly, not in a rush but not wasting time either. The congee was smooth, the buns soft, and the soy milk warmed her stomach. It felt comforting in a simple way.

After finishing, she wiped her mouth with a napkin, cleaned up the table, and threw the packaging away. Then she headed to the bedroom again to change clothes.

She opened her wardrobe and picked out a pair of clean formal pants and a light shirt. The outfit looked neat, mature, and practical. She didn't like wasting time thinking about fashion or trends. Comfort and mobility were what mattered. After dressing, she buttoned the shirt, adjusted her collar, and checked herself once in the mirror.

She looked composed and ready.

With that done, she slipped her phone into her pocket, tied her hair into a low ponytail, and walked back into the living room. Today was going to be busy, and she had a lot to get done before the world decided to fall apart.

With her next plans in mind, Bai Li went out.

Today, the first place that she had in mind was the largest renovation company in Jianghua city called the "Xunren Renovation Pvt. Ltd.". She had previously checked online and found the address of the company and also its other details such as how big it was, its credibility and the type of renovations it does. Fortunately, it seems to match all of her needs. After all, the renovation she was about to do was not a normal one but a military grade one which would not only cost a lot of money and would also require specialists and experts which this million dollar company could afford making it her most optimal choice. She checked reviews, customer photos, company background, work quality, even complaints.

The more she read, the more she found it reliable. It was a huge renovation company with branches all over Jianghua and nearby cities. They handled luxury homes, commercial buildings, government projects, and even private security upgrades. Their website showed photos of reinforced doors, bullet resistant walls, hidden panic rooms, and other high end custom work. It looked exactly like the kind of place she needed.

She even checked the leadership, the licenses, and financial reports. The company was clean, wealthy, and experienced. It employed engineers, architects, interior designers, and security consultants. Basically, they had the kind of specialists she needed. After all, what she wanted to build inside her new apartment was not some pretty wallpaper or a kitchen makeover. She wanted a military grade fortress, and only a powerful and expensive company could pull that off.

Good thing she had money. Though she wasn't sure how much it would cost but it sure would cost a hell lot of money.

After checking everything twice, she saved the address on her phone.
