Today is the first day of school. We haven't started any actual lessons in class yet. During the first hour, the teacher took attendance of the students, then arranged the class list. After that, there was the selection for the class president and vice president, and the teacher handed out the schedule of subjects. After finishing all things related to the school's study plan ahead, we were given free time until the end of school hours. Of course, we were not allowed to leave the classroom until the bell rang.
When everyone was busy with their own activities, a student opened the classroom door and walked to the teacher's desk to tell her something. After talking for a few moments, she turned and faced us all. Seeing that she was going to make an announcement, everyone stopped what they were doing and gave her their attention. She was wearing the same blue uniform and blazer as us, but what made her different was the golden flower embroidery on the left side of her chest. That meant she wasn't an ordinary student.
"Good afternoon. Let me introduce myself, I'm a member of Lunar Flower. My name is Selphie. I'm here to call students who have been chosen by the Guardian Headmaster as candidates for the Lunar Flower," she said in a strong voice that everyone could hear clearly.
She took a paper leaves from her pocket and looked at it for a few seconds. "Fyna Rivanya," she called.
We all looked at Fyna. She looked shocked and tense. Then she quickly stood from her seat.
"Alright, from this class it seems there is only one person. Thank you for your attention," she said to us. "Fyna Rivanya, please follow me." She nodded slightly to the teacher before leaving the room.
For a moment, Fyna looked at me before following Selphie out of the classroom. I smiled at her, and she left.
"Ren! Ren! Did you see that? She got chosen! She's chosen to be a member of Lunar Flower!" Vyne said loudly, looking so happy.
"Yes, yes, I saw it," I answered flatly.
It was indeed something amazing. Lunar Flower was a school organization formed directly by the Headmaster himself to help manage and arrange school activities. Lunar Flower was respected and admired by all students, because the members of this organization were personally selected by the Guardian Headmaster. The Guardian Headmaster was the highest authority in the world; he had the power to see and judge a person's potential. Because of that, the members of Lunar Flower were always outstanding students with great potential.
"Hey, Vyne," I called. "Don't you want to tell Fyna the truth?"
"Tell her what?" he asked, confused.
"About your feelings for her," I whispered.
"H-how did you know that?" he asked, surprised, his face turning red.
"Oh, come on. Everyone can tell from how you act around her. Well, except for Fyna. You know she's not very sensitive about this kind of thing," I said.
His face turned even redder. "I… I don't know when I'll tell her," he said hesitantly. "I'm just not ready to hear her answer."
"Don't wait too long. If you do, she might belong to someone else," I said softly.
He looked shocked, his expression suddenly filled with worry. The school bell rang, signaling the end of class.
"I'm going first, okay? If you see Fyna, tell her I went to the market for a bit," I said to Vyne.
"Alright," he said weakly.
I patted his shoulder. "Don't lose spirit! We'll support you." I winked at him.
Hearing what I said, his face brightened again. "Really?" he asked.
"Of course. Just promise that when you tell her, you'll be honest with your feelings. And don't you dare make her cry!" I said, staring at him seriously.
"Alright, I promise," he said with a big smile.
"Good. I'll be waiting for that day." I smiled. "I'll go now. See you, Vyne."
I walked past him and left the classroom. Since we lived in the school dormitory, we had to take care of our daily needs by ourselves. I walked through the front gate of the school and down the slightly steep path. Because the Guardian Academy was located on top of a hill, the distance to the market was quite far — about twenty minutes.
I followed the small path surrounded by trees along the way. When I left the hilly area, I saw a river flowing from the hill. I had to cross it to get to the market, and there was a bridge spanning the river. As I walked closer to the bridge, I noticed someone sitting beneath it, staring at the water. I didn't know what exactly he was doing there, so I ignored it and continued walking.
After buying everything I needed, I started walking back toward the dorm. The dormitory was located behind the Guardian Academy, which meant I had to cross the bridge and climb up the hill again. As I approached the bridge, the rain suddenly poured down heavily. I ran under the bridge for shelter. My uniform and bag were soaked by the rain. Luckily, the things I bought were already inside my bag, so they didn't get wet.
I decided to wait until the rain stopped before going back to the dorm. Under the bridge, I noticed someone sitting not far from me — the same person I had seen earlier when I crossed the bridge.
He didn't look like a human.
He wore a long white robe and had silver hair, a rare and beautiful color. His face was handsome, but what surprised me most was that he was hovering slightly above the ground. No doubt, he was a Guardian.
Humans and Guardians had similar appearances, but Guardians never walked on the ground — they always floated about half a meter above it.
I kept staring at him curiously, wondering in my heart what he was doing there. Was he waiting for someone? Why wasn't he with his human partner? I kept questioning without finding any answers.
Humans who hadn't gone through the "Soul Unification" couldn't see a Guardian who also hadn't unified, unless that Guardian was meant to be their partner. I could see him clearly, which meant he was either already unified with someone, or… he was mine.
No, impossible if he is my guardian. Guardians were forbidden from meeting their partner before the day of unification. They could only meet one day before it. That meant he must be a Guardian who already had a human. But still, what was he doing here alone?
"Why are you staring at me?!" he asked sharply.
"Ah… I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything, just wonder why you are here alone. Are you waiting for someone?" I ask nervously.
"It's none of your business!" he shouted, his tone full of anger.
I was shocked by his voice. "Sorry," I said quickly.
The rain grew heavier. I couldn't help but glance at him from time to time. I was simply too curious. I've always been a bit stubborn, and it made me want to know what he was doing here alone.
"Why do you keep looking at me!" he shouted again, louder this time, his face full of anger.
I flinched. "Sorry!" I said reflexively, bowing slightly, not daring to look at him again.
"Go away! You're bothering me!" he yelled.
"Eh? But…" I hesitated.
"I said go!!! Go away!!! I don't want to see you anymore!!!"
I was stunned by his words. The rain was still pouring hard, and he was driving me away. What should I do?
"Go!!!" he screamed again.
I couldn't say anything else. I ran through the heavy rain toward the dorm. As I ran, my mind kept replaying what had just happened. Why was he so angry with me? Was it because I kept staring? Or was he in a bad mood? Whatever the reason, maybe it was my fault.
That thought lingered in my head and turned into guilt as I ran, letting the rain slap against my body while my heart sank with regret.
