Today, after finishing school, I rushed back to the dorm first to change my clothes.
Once I was done, I walked out of the dorm and headed toward the footbridge to meet Yue again.
But when I arrived under the bridge, I didn't see anyone there.
I frowned a little, confused about why Yue wasn't here today.
Still, I decided to wait.
Maybe he'll come in a bit, I thought.
I kept waiting… and waiting.
Eventually, night was almost falling, yet he never showed up.
Maybe he's with his human partner today. I should just come back tomorrow, I told myself.
I walked back to the dorm. I didn't want Fyna to worry about me.
I knew I wouldn't always be able to see him—he already had a human partner, and that meant he probably had to stay with them most of the time.
I understood that… but I didn't know why I still wanted so badly to see him and be his friend.
Even so, I wouldn't give up.
---
The next day, after school, I went there again to try meeting him.
But again, he wasn't there.
I waited until night came, but he still didn't show up.
I didn't give up.
I went again the following day and waited.
This was already the third day in a row I keep waiting… and he still never came.
I started to feel frustrated.
When night fell, I went back to the dorm.
---
"Ren, where have you been these past few days?" Fyna asked when she saw me open the door.
Seeing how down and drained I looked, she became worried.
"What's wrong, Ren? Are you sick again?" she asked as she walked toward me.
I shook my head weakly. "I… I'm just frustrated."
"Frustrated?" she asked, confused.
I nodded slowly. "That day, I finally learned his name. And it made me really happy, because I thought that meant I finally had a chance to be his friend. But… maybe I was wrong to think that."
I looked down at my hands. "These past few days, I kept try going to that place to see him again. But he never showed up."
"Do you think he doesn't want to be my friend? Or… am I just hoping for too much just to be his friend?" I asked her quietly.
Fyna held both my hands and sat beside me.
"I don't think your feelings are wrong. Wanting to be someone's friend is normal. And I think he does want to be your friend, Ren."
She smiled softly. "He told you his name, didn't he? Doesn't that mean he wanted you to know him?"
I looked at her. "You really think so?"
"Of course."
She smiled again. "Think positively. Maybe he didn't come because he has his own things to take care of. But I'm sure you'll meet him again.
So keep believing that you will meet him again... Isn't that what you taught us—to always believe?"
She pinched my cheek gently.
I smiled back and hugged her. "Thanks for reminding me back, Fyn."
"That's what friends are for," she said, returning my hug. "We'll always support you, Ren."
When we pulled apart, I hesitated for a moment. "Fyn… actually, there's something I want to tell you."
She looked at me, listening.
I explained to her that the person I'd been trying to meet wasn't a human—it was a guardian.
I told her everything, from the first time I met him under the bridge to the moment I learned his name.
She listened closely without interrupting.
"Maybe you're right," I said softly. "I won't give up. I'll go there again tomorrow and wait for him."
"Do your best, Ren!" Fyna said, encouraging me. "Fighting!"
We laughing together at room. Then we doing our homework before we sleep. Waiting for tomorrow to hope I can meet him again, I hope...
