Tonight, I opened the window of my room, letting the night wind wrap around me. I stood there staring at the sky, thinking about many things.
"Not asleep yet, Ren?" asked Fyna, who had just finished bathing.
"Not yet…" I answered a bit weakly.
Fyna approached me and touched my shoulder. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"Nothing… I'm just thinking about something." I continued staring at the stars in the night sky. "I was thinking, soon we will meet our guardian and do the 'soul union'."
"That must be exciting, right? All of us have been looking forward to that day." Fyna smiled and also looked up at the night sky.
"Yeah… that's true. But that's not what I'm thinking about… I'm thinking, after we each have our guardian… and later, when we graduate from this school. Doesn't that mean we'll have to part ways with Vyne and the others? I… I feel a little lonely if that happens." I didn't want to imagine that moment now.
Fyna hugged me. "I would also feel lonely if that happens later. We've always been together and shared everything. I would surely feel the loss if our time together has to end with separation." she said.
"But… I think maybe it's okay." I smiled at Fyna. "I feel that if we do have to part later, it's okay. As long as we still remember our friendship and don't forget the memories we shared, we will definitely be able to meet again. That's why… I will always protect our friendship forever. And I also want to thank all of you who always supported me and stayed with me… I… I really love all of you!" I said a bit strongly.
I felt my tears flowing down my cheeks. But I felt relieved after saying that.
"Yeah… you're right. I also won't forget our friendship until now." said Fyna softly.
"Thank you, my friends," I said in my heart and closed my eyes, preparing to welcome tomorrow.
---
For three days, the seventeen-year-old students were given a break from school lessons. This was because we had to face our big day within these three days. Today we would be given some instructions. Tomorrow, we would meet our own guardians. And the day after that, we would perform the 'soul union' with our guardians.
The students began entering the hall and sat in their seats in an orderly manner. When everyone had gotten their seats, the Principal, who had been standing on the stage for a while, began his briefing.
"Good morning. I'm sure you all know that the 'meeting day' and the 'soul union' have arrived. Because of that, I want to give you all some explanations and instructions.
Alright, first. Tomorrow is the 'meeting day'. 'Meeting day' is the day where you will meet your guardian directly. You already know that." he said. "Tomorrow's meeting will be held in this hall in the morning. So I expect all of you to be here on time.
Then, I want to explain how you will find your own guardian. So I hope none of you make mistakes. When you enter the hall tomorrow, you will find chairs facing each other and the guardians already sitting there waiting for you. Those who can clearly see one guardian, immediately sit in front of them. Because you can only see your own guardian. You will be given time to get to know your guardian for a few minutes. However, there is something you need to know first. When you 'touch' your guardian—whether holding hands, shaking hands, or touching any part of them—this will make your guardian visible to others as well. This is called the 'adjustment' between guardian and human." he explained.
"Then second, the 'soul union' day. The 'soul union' will be held in the Altar building in the morning. I hope no students are sick or unable to attend so that all of you can be present for the 'soul union'.
I want to inform you all. After performing the 'soul union', you will receive your own 'union item'. This can be a gold ring or a gold bracelet. Whichever 'union item' you receive, it doesn't matter, because the item you get reflects the 'trust' you have in yourselves and in your guardian. That is all I wanted to say. Thank you."
After the Principal left the hall, the students were allowed to return to the dormitory.
"I'm hungry. Can we eat at the cafeteria first before going back?" asked Vyne.
Everyone agreed to eat before returning to the dorm or doing other activities.
"What's wrong, Ren? You seem unmotivated." asked Fyna.
I shook my head slightly. "I don't know. I just feel uneasy today." I answered.
"Did something happen?" asked Resa.
I shook my head. I didn't know why I suddenly had a bad feeling since entering the hall earlier.
"Are you sick?" asked Vyne.
I shook my head again. "I'm fine. Maybe it's just my feeling." I smiled at them.
"Maybe you're a bit scared because the 'soul union day' is coming soon. Like 'stage fright' or something." said Efan.
"Yeah. Maybe." I answered weakly.
"I hope nothing bad happens…" I said in my heart.
