I looked up and saw a young woman blocking my path. She bore some resemblance to Thorne.
I recalled spotting this woman's photograph in the Thor family's personnel records earlier.
Her name was Adeline—Thorne's younger sister from one of the Thor family's collateral branches.
"So you think this is just some stepping stone to success? Is that your narrow perspective?" I fired back with ice in my voice.
Adeline let out a mocking laugh. "Hamilton coming from someone who's divorced and still lecturing about vision. I did my homework on you. Your ex-husband's Coleman business collapsed; he's buried under lawsuits now.
"You crawl back to the family, yet you won't even throw him a lifeline? Someone who abandons the struggling for the wealthy—what kind of vision could you possibly possess?"
The crowd around Adeline joined in with their snickering.
"Being the Thor family heiress isn't child's play."
