Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

After days of fitting, learning the pair dance to perfection, curtsying repeatedly and memorising the family tree of very important public figures, numerous guests flocked through the royal gates for the coming of age ball of Marina Chase.

Once the guests crossed the palace gates, they were instantly welcomed by servants that stood in two rows on opposite sides of a red carpet with their heads bowed. All the servants were dressed immaculately in the blue and green colours of Alvonia with the insignia of the royal family embroidered into their gloves and the upper part of their sleeves. The servants stretched from after the castle gates all the way to the ballroom on a separate part of the castle.

The day before the event, the Queen double-checked the decorations of the ballroom and made sure every nook and cranny was spotless. Allowing no help from her husband the queen picked out everything from the colour of the napkins down to the plates and cutleries being used. The huge chandelier in the centre of the room with white sapphires was cleaned at least twice before the occasion and the room was decorated in dark blue and green.

The chairs were dark green and the tables were covered with dark blue tablecloths with wavy designs at the seams. Once the guests were seated the King and Queen were announced and the doors were flung open by the guards. Walking into the room to take their seats on their red and gold thrones decorated with green and blue sapphires the King and Queen radiated elegance in their respective outfits.

The King's inner attire was simple with a dark blue shirt underneath with a dark blue vest and dark blue pants but his dark green outer coat was long at the back and came to a stop at his middle in front. The lapel of the outer coat and the cuffs of the outer coat had golden embroidery and the buttons of the outer coat were golden. Apart from the outer coat the King had a dark blue material that faded into dark green at the ends pinned on his right shoulder. The King's family insignia of the sun was embroidered on his gloves and at the left hand side of his dark blue vest and his golden crown was adorned with green and blue sapphires.

The Queen's gown was the color of rich, melted chocolate that matched her hair and the bodice was exquisitely tailored to hug her form. Intricate embroidery of gold thread traced delicate vines and fleur-de-lis patterns across her chest and shoulders and tiny garnet beads glimmered like drops of molten ruby, scattered among the embroidery. Her sleeves flowed in long, sweeping panels of sheer chiffon that shimmered faintly and the skirt cascaded in layers. A wide, ornate belt of burnished bronze cinched her waist and her brown gloves bore the insignia of the burning sun.

Completing the ensemble, was a delicate crown of gold with amber gems that reflected the warmth of the Queen's hazel eyes.

Taking their seats, after the King and Queen sat down the guests waited for the three children of the King and Queen to be announced.

The first star of the Empire Emerald Chase came into the room with her brown hair in curls around her and her emerald eyes gleaming. She was dressed in an off-shoulder burgundy ball gown that looked like ripened berries under candlelight and her bodice was beaded with burgundy beads. She wore burgundy gloves that reached her elbows and a pendant that featured the family insignia of the burning sun.

Curtsying then bowing to greet the King and Queen, Esmeralda said "Blessed by the spirit of the earth, the first star, Esmeralda Chase greets the Sun and moon of the empire." and the audience clapped as Emeralds kissed her mother's hand and the ring on the King's hand.

The clapping had only died down a little when the second star of the empire, Zarya Chase walked into the room in a dark green gown with a fitted velvet bodice and an off-shoulder neckline that highlighted her grace. Her flowing sleeves trail slightly, adding an ethereal touch, while her layered silk and chiffon skirt cascaded unto the floor. She had delicate gold embroidery winds along the neckline, sleeves, and hem in intricate vine and leaf patterns, echoing the whispers of an enchanted forest. A slender golden belt, set with emerald gemstones, cinched her waist. Her hair was braided at the sides in a half up, half down manner and she also wore a pendant that featured the family insignia.

Curtsying then bowing to greet the King and Queen, Zarya said "Blessed by the spirit of the wind, the second star, Zarya Chase greets the Sun and moon of the empire." and the audience clapped once more.

After the second sister kissed her mother's hand and her father's ring, the third star of Alvonia, Marina Chase, walked into the room.
