But May had already collapsed over the table, her right hand still holding her drink while her left hand had begun playing with whatever was within reach. Her fingertip poked at a tissue on the table, pushing it little by little toward the edge, until it reached the corner. Then she stopped. The tissue hung there, suspended, about to fall.
Otis cried out inwardly.
There's a cat here.
A one-meter-sixty-five tall cat.
May turned her head and asked,
"So… are you full yet?"
Otis nodded.
"Yeah, I'm full."
Dinner was done, the cake eaten, the candles blown out, and now the two of them were just sitting there drinking.
May giggled, "Hehe."
"Then I'm going to get your present!"
Otis saw her stand up and immediately stood as well, worried she would fall. He walked over to her, but May spun around, raised her right hand, and tapped his forehead with her index finger.
"Go sit on the sofa and wait for me. No peeking. Close your eyes."
