Chapter 7 - New Job, More Danger

"Alright, everybody got that?" the man asked.

They all nodded, so the man said, "Alright, then let's get to it."

Dagoku sighed as he got up. The new "job" the man was talking about was a supernatural that had spawned out of nowhere, and they were contacted by a client to bring it to him alive so that he could train it to become a bodyguard for him. Of course, he worked as a private hunter as it was one of the only jobs that did not require an id, which Dagoku did not have, and it paid pretty well.

The reason private hunters existed in this world was like how private militaries companies existed. The SOCTF usually either eliminated or experimented on these supernaturals, however they were not willing to sell them to other people. However, rich people or people of power were fascinated with these supernaturals and wanted ownership of them. To get supernaturals without alerting the SOCTF, they hired private hunters to go out and capture these supernaturals in exchange for either large sums of money or stocks.

The reason it was hard to find private hunters though was due to how the capturing of these supernaturals was outlawed and having one for one's own personal gain was considered illegal. This was why private hunters, who supplied people with supernaturals, were outlawed and anyone caught would either face time in prison, or if they resisted, death. Not to mention the fact that fighting supernaturals was already a tough thing to do, as there was no guarantee whether you would survive or not.

Dagoku left with the others and entered a car not too far from the base, and sat in the passenger seat. Two others sat in the back and another man entered in the drivers seat, and they drove off, following the other cars.

Dagoku always wondered how the SOCTF had trouble finding these private hunters as they always seemed to travel in groups, and a group of similar-looking black cars seemed to be very noticeable in a street with a lot of random cars not in unison.

As they were following the other cars, one man in the back started up a conversation, talking about what the point of keeping supernaturals was and why people even wanted to capture them in the first place. He kept ranting about how owning a supernatural is like owning an dangerous animal, like a tiger or bear. After all, it already costed quite a fortune to contain the supernatural, but training it is an whole other story.

As the men in the back talked about the disadvantages of owning a supernatural, Dagoku noticed that the kitten was fast asleep, and started to pet it. The kitten was barely the size of his hand, however it was emitting some sort of aura that Dagoku could not point out.

As he was wondering about what this aura meant, the car suddenly stopped, and the man in the driver's seat told everyone that they have arrived at the last known sighting of this supernatural. Dagoku wondered where on earth they even gained that information, as those things would have been reported to the SOCTF by any ordinary person, as they gave rewards to information on supernatural whereabouts.

They all exited the vehicles and headed over to gather up with the rest of the group, who were now looking at the map that they were given, and the man in charge started to assign roles to everyone. Dagoku noticed that they were in front of a forest located at the bottom of a mountain, and wondered why anybody, including supernaturals, would set up a base here. Dagoku was placed in the search team, who were in charge of locating the supernatural. He and three other people headed into the forest, and they soon spread out to have a better chance of finding this supernatural.

As Dagoku was taking a stroll in the forest looking for the supernatural, he started to wonder what type of powers it was going to have. The last time, it was a supernatural that was in the form of a blob and had the powers to spew massive tentacles out of its body that were strong enough to reshape the land around it. It was hard to kill, as these tentacles were like whips and they could barely get close to the main body, but after some of their fellow hunters fell in battle, they finally succeeded in overwhelming the supernatural and killing it off.

Suddenly, Dagoku noticed something move in the distance, and took out his katana, getting in a fighting stance. He approached the place where he had seen movement, and when he got there, he noticed a tall, lanky creature that had antlers growing from the head. It also had hollow eyes, and was completely blue. Dagoku took a pretty good guess that this was the supernatural that they were looking for, so he clicked a button on his radio which transmitted electromagnetic waves that revealed where his location was. Soon enough, he saw the other hunters coming towards him, and motioned to them to stop and not make any noise. The other hunters noticed the supernatural and nodded, and the hunters in charge of setting up traps took off to set them up. The others decided to back down and discuss a plan to lead the supernatural to the traps and send it over to the client.

Dagoku decided to see what they were talking about overheard the man in charge say, "Alright everyone, we first have to figure out what kind of powers this supernatural has, so we need someone to go out there and fight it."

"That sure as ain't gonna be me," one of them said. The others all nodded in agreement, as none of them wanted to risk their lives fighting an unknown supernatural. Dagoku wondered if these people truly were men, as they knew what they were signing up for when they chose this career. But at the same time, he could not criticize them, as he also wanted to live as his sister was likely waiting for him at the apartment.

The captain sighed, and then said, "Welp, since all of you are pussies, it seems like I'll have to do it myself."

The captain then stood up and saw that the other hunters have finished setting up the traps. He said to wait for his signal to attack the supernatural, and walked out into the open, the blue creature with hollow eyes noticing the intruder that just came into its line of sight.
