Megaworld, 59th Floor, Caretaker Facility.
"There you go~"
The nurse lowered Fang Raon down to the bed and made sure the bed was properly adjusted for his comfort.
"Thanks…"
Fang Raon said with a barely audible whisper.
The nurse just smiled, and at that moment, a couple of deliverymen rolled his very own Virtual Reality Pod to the corner of the room.
He didn't want to stop playing Black Online, so his request was to bring it with him, even though it confused the doctors and nurses.
It was widely known that those with blindness and body disabilities had the same disabilities even in the virtual world.
Therefore, for someone who couldn't even move, it seemed impossible that he could even play any games.
"Your personal caretaker will be coming to meet you shortly. She is a nice girl, so she will be taking good care of you."
The middle-aged nurse said and then left the room with the deliverymen, leaving him all alone.
"…"
Fang Raon only looked silently at the darkness around him, as he couldn't move.
He couldn't afford being in this Caretaker Facility, and his family definitely wouldn't pay for his "treatment" either.
However, luckily for him, the government was paying because of his rare disease that the doctors found intriguing.
They wanted to study him like a guinea pig.
That's why the government was willing to cover all expenses for his stay in the facility, and all Fang Raon had to do was do every test required of him.
'59th floor… The smell is quite good here, much better than the 18th floor. This facility is nice as well… from what I've heard, and it has some good security as well.
'It's not a bad place to spend your final days.'
Fang Raon thought to himself.
The room that he was staying in had this bed, a little living area around him, and a television in the corner.
The Virtual Pod was on the other corner, and there were many closets, and next to the front door, there was a bathroom.
The bathroom was decently sized. It had a toilet, a shower, a sink, and a large bathtub that was designed to fit more than one person.
In that moment, the door opened and closed.
Soft-sounding footsteps approached the bed, and a scent of sweet flowers tickled his nose, and then he smelled shampoo.
"Hello, my name is Nurse Chaewon. I will be your personal caretaker starting today."
She said with her long brown hair cascading over her shoulders and almost touching his face as she leaned in to check his vitals.
While Fang Raon couldn't see her, he could tell that she must be pretty liked based on the gentleness of her voice and smell.
She was very beautiful with soft features, long eyelashes, and a sweet smile on her pink lips.
"Nice to meet you…"
Fang Raon said.
"Are you in need of anything at this time at all?"
Chaewon pressed her clipboard against her chest and asked with a smile on her gentle face.
"…I haven't eaten since yesterday, and…"
Fang Raon sighed in annoyance and finished his words.
"I also need to visit the bathroom…"
"There will be a lunch in half an hour, and wait, let me get you a wheelchair so I can take you to the bathroom~"
She walked to the corner of the room, took out a wheelchair from the closet, and rolled it next to the bed.
She then lifted motionless Fang Raon up and lowered him into the wheelchair while he just stayed quiet.
Even when he was still living in his home, he hated whenever someone tried helping him because of his disability.
He wanted to still try to live a normal life and do everything by himself.
Now he couldn't and needed help for even the simplest actions.
It felt like there was a knife carving down his pride and independence every time he had to ask for assistance.
Chaewon rolled him to the door, opened the bathroom door, and helped him inside. She turned on the lights.
'…This sucks.'
Fang Raon thought.
She rolled him close to the toilet, lifted him up to the toilet, and then pulled his pants down to his ankles.
"Are you fine to stay here alone for a while? I will go ask about your lunch."
Chaewon asked gently.
"…Yeah."
Fang Raon said.
She smiled and walked off.
'She could tell that I was awkward and didn't want her to stay. She is pretty nice. I fucking hate this, though.'
…
Walking down the hallway, Chaewon reached out to her pocket, pulled out a hair tie, and tied her hair up in a ponytail.
She then greeted several patients with her usual sweet smile and then found several nurses putting food trays on a table.
"Chaewon, how was it with your first patient?"
The head nurse suddenly caught up to her and asked with a smile.
"It was good. I came here to ask about his lunch. Is it ready so I can take it to him?"
Chaewon asked.
"It should be done…"
The head nurse walked to the metal cart, looked for Fang Raon's nametag, and found a tray with his name on it.
With a smile, she gave it to Chaewon.
"There you go."
"Thanks!"
Chaewon said with a smile, and before leaving, she asked.
"Did you happen to message Fang Raon's parents? Are they coming so I can tell him that they're coming to visit him?"
"…Ah."
The head nurse looked troubled, and with a sigh, she said.
"They are not coming. I did contact his father, and that call lasted ten seconds until he hung up on me. It didn't sound like he was very interested to hear about his son."
"What?"
Chaewon asked, shocked.
"What about his mother?"
"His mother did not answer, so I sent a message, and I saw that she saw the message but decided not to reply.
"It doesn't seem like anyone will be coming to meet him. It must be family drama, so maybe it is a sore subject to him, so perhaps it is better not to talk to him about it."
The head nurse said.
"…Okay."
Chaewon whispered and started heading back to Fang Raon's room.
She couldn't believe that his parents seemed so uninterested in him.
It wasn't like he was here for a small nosebleed. His illness was genuinely dangerous, and they simply didn't care!
