Lord Champa was taking one of his long naps. The sun hung high and warm in the sky. A soft breeze moved across the field and carried the gentle sound of a far-away waterfall. It was the kind of place that made even a God of Destruction feel lazy and happy.
Vados, the tall and graceful angel, stood nearby. She held her shining staff in her right hand and kept her left arm calmly folded behind her back. Suddenly she felt something—a dark, heavy power far away that made her heart jump a little.
"My lord," she said softly, "did you feel that just now?"
Champa was lying on his back with his arms behind his head and one leg crossed over the other. His round purple belly rose and fell with each sleepy breath. He opened one eye, then the other.
"Yes, Vados, I felt it," he said, yawning. "But I don't want to get up yet. Let's wait and see if the problem fixes itself. No need to rush."
He closed his eyes again and smiled as the breeze played with his whiskers.
Vados looked worried. She glanced at the glowing green orb on top of her staff. Inside that orb she could see everything happening across the universe. Right now it showed a terrible fight on a far-away planet called Sidala.
"Yes, my lord," she answered out loud. But inside her mind she whispered, Son Goku… please hold on just a little longer.
Planet Sidala
The ground was cracked and smoking. Cities that had stood for thousands of years were now only dust. Bodies of brave Saiyan warriors lay everywhere. Their blood had run together into little red rivers that steamed in the hot air.
Son Goku stood in the middle of all that sadness. His orange gi was torn. Blood ran from his mouth and one eye was almost swollen shut. His legs shook, but he refused to fall.
Across from him stood a tall, dark figure wearing gold and white god of destruction outfit . His name was Rishi, and an evil smile stretched across his face.
"Hahaha!" Rishi laughed, loud and cruel. "I gave you a chance, Saiyan. I offered you mercy. But you spat in my face. Now you die."
He stretched one hand forward. Purple and black energy twisted and grew in his palm like a terrible storm trapped in a ball.
"You survived my first Hakai," Rishi said, "but that one took everything you had. Look at you—you can barely stand. What will you do against this one?"
Goku looked around with sad eyes. All his friends, all the people of this planet—gone. Cities wiped away like someone erased them with a giant hand. Only dust and broken rock remained.
Rishi kept talking, proud and angry.
"Before I kill you, you should know who I am. Thousands of years ago, I was a candidate to become a God of Destruction. I was stronger, smarter, and scarier than all the others. I ruled with fear, and fear is good. But the others looked into my heart and saw darkness. They called me unworthy. They picked a lazy purple cat instead of me!" He spat on the ground. "They were right to fear the darkness, because I planned to destroy everything—planets, gods, angels, all of it. No one would be left alive unless I allowed it."
"Back then I had no name. They locked me away in the darkest prison and tried to forget me. But prisons cannot hold someone like me forever. While I was trapped, I learned every secret of the universe and the multiverse. When I broke free, I gave myself a name—Rishi. And now I will finish what I started."
Goku breathed hard. His arms felt like stone. "I've used too much energy," he thought. "That first Hakai was incomplete, but it still erased almost everything. My friends… the cities… this whole world is dying."
Rishi lifted his hand higher. The purple-black ball grew bigger and bigger until it was the size of a two-story house.
"Are you ready to die, Saiyan?" he asked.
"Hakai!" he roared.
The giant ball of destruction shot forward. Wherever it touched the ground, sand turned to glass from the terrible heat. It flew straight at Goku, fast as lightning.
Goku's eyes burned with fire. "I refuse to die here!" he shouted inside his heart. "I refuse to let my friends die without revenge! God or not, I will stop you!"
BOOM!
The Hakai hit Goku dead center. A white light brighter than a thousand suns exploded into space. Anyone looking from far away would have seen it like a new star being born.
But then—something impossible happened.
Goku lifted his right hand and placed it against the dark energy. Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam! With every heartbeat the giant ball shrank smaller and smaller until it was no bigger than a child's toy. Then, with a snap of his fingers, Goku erased it completely.
The wind stopped. The ground stopped shaking.
Goku stood tall. His hair was still black, but beautiful silver-white energy ran through it like rivers of starlight. His eyes glowed calm and deep. His body moved on its own, smooth as water, strong as mountains.
Ultra Instinct.
Rishi's eyes went wide with shock and rage.
"Ultra Instinct!" he screamed. "That is the power of angels! Even Gods of Destruction struggle to touch it! A mortal like you—impossible!"
Goku's voice was quiet but filled with power. "Now the real battle begins."
BOOM!
Their fists met for the first time with full power. The shockwave tore the rest of Planet Sidala in half. Giant pieces of the planet flew into space like broken toys.
Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!
They fought faster than light. Normal eyes could not follow. They crashed through the remains of Sidala and into the next planet—a huge world ten times bigger, home to giants taller than mountains.
But even that planet could not stand their battle. Mountains that touched the clouds shattered like glass. The ground split open and lava poured out like blood. Every punch and kick made the sky scream.
Rishi threw everything he had. He roared and sent a punch that could destroy stars.
It landed—on empty air.
Goku moved without thinking, without effort. In the same heartbeat he landed three crushing blows on Rishi's chest, jaw, and stomach. Blood exploded from Rishi's mouth. Both fighters flew backward, crashing through ten mountains before they stopped.
Rishi stood up slowly. His armor was cracked. Blood poured from his lips, his nose, his hands. His proud face was twisted with pain and fury.
"This is your end, Saiyan!" he screamed. He brought both bruised and bleeding hands together in front of his broken body.
"HAKAI!"
This time the energy was bigger and darker than anything before. It looked like a black hole made of pure destruction.
Goku stood perfectly still. He did not dodge. He did not blink. He looked ready to take it head-on.
The Hakai rushed forward.
SWOOSH!
A pillar of pure white light cut through the sky like a sword. When the light faded, the Hakai was gone—erased like it had never existed.
Lord Champa stepped out of the light, his face serious and angry. Vados floated right behind him, her staff glowing bright.
Goku blinked in surprise. "Lord Champa? What are you doing here?"
Vados answered calmly, "Isn't it obvious? We came to stop this before the whole universe feels the consequences."
Champa's tail flicked back and forth. Purple Hakai energy danced around his right hand like hungry fire.
"You have done more than enough, Son Goku," Champa said. "Step aside. This fight is now between two Gods of Destruction—one complete, and one broken pretender."
Rishi wiped blood from his mouth and laughed, but it sounded weak now.
"I never planned to fight a real God of Destruction and his angel today," he said. "I will return another time—with my army at my back."
A circle of purple darkness opened behind him like a hungry mouth.
"See you soon, Saiyan!" Rishi shouted, and his laugh echoed as the portal swallowed him whole.
"No!" Goku yelled. He dashed forward to follow.
Besh!
Vados tapped him gently on the head with her staff. It still hurt a lot.
"Ouch!" Goku rubbed his head and laughed a little, even through the pain. "Kikikiki, why did you do that, Vados?"
Champa turned around, arms folded behind his back. His tail swung lazily.
"If she didn't stop you, you would be dead right now," he said. "And that would annoy a lot of people—me, Vados, Beerus, Whis, and many others."
Goku's silver hair faded back to black. He returned to his normal form and looked serious.
"Are you saying even Ultra Instinct wasn't enough?"
Vados spoke softly. "Until the moment we arrived, Rishi was only playing with you. He hid most of his power. If he had used his true strength earlier, every God of Destruction in all twelve universes would have felt it and come running. He did not want that—yet."
Goku clenched his fists so hard his knuckles turned white. "So he was toying with me the whole time?"
Champa gave a little smile. "You were never a real opponent to him. He just used you to test his strength just for awhile."
Vados looked around. Planet Sidala was gone. The giant planet they now stood on was half destroyed—mountains flattened, oceans boiled away, cities in ruins.
She raised her staff and tapped the air three times.
Bam. Bam. Bam.
Golden light spread everywhere like warm sunrise. Broken pieces of planets flew back together. Mountains rose again. Cities rebuilt themselves brick by brick. Rivers flowed backward into their beds. And one by one, every Saiyan and giant who had died opened their eyes and breathed again.
Life returned as if nothing had ever happened.
Champa yawned. "Time to go home. You're coming with us, Son Goku."
He placed one hand on Vados's back. Goku quickly put his hand on Champa's back so he would not be left behind.
"Don't let go," Vados warned with a tiny smile, "or you might end up in the wrong universe."
BOOM!
White light swallowed them all, and in the blink of an eye they were gone, leaving two perfectly restored planets spinning peacefully under their suns.
But far away, in the deepest darkness between universes, Rishi stepped out of his purple portal. Blood still dripped from his wounds, but his eyes burned with terrible promise.
"This is only the beginning," he whispered to the shadows. "Next time, I will bring my army. Next time, gods and angels will kneel—or they will vanish forever."
Lord Champa napping, opened one eye again.
Vados stood beside him, watching her orb.
"He will come back, my lord," she said quietly.
Champa sighed and closed his eye.
"Let him come," he muttered. "Next time, I won't be napping."
