"What?!" Riven yelled, his eyes wide with surprise.
"We found it written in one of her documents we managed to recover, so I sent for an outside man to retrieve it."
Riven looked at Kairo with surprise for a moment.
This jer- guy actually has a good heart.
Riven said internally because to help to retrieve a will he wasn't even aware of, wasn't just a small act.
"T-thanks Kairo."
Kairo turned, bringing out yet another item from his pocket, flung it at Riven, who caught it mid-spin.
"Don't thank me, I just did it cause I felt like…and also that right there is your official ID in the school, don't lose it…or spend it all in one place."
Riven looked at the card he had been tossed. It was a simple plain card with his photo and a few other details on it, but the LED edges were a bronze like color.
"What do you mean don't spend it all in one place."
"In here we don't use real money, we use that." Kairo said as he walked without turning before adding. "I have a meeting with the Principal, but I'll be seeing you later."
Riven looked at the card and back at the other.
Could you be any vaguer?
Riven scoffed as he turned back as well to his dorm.
____
Upon reaching his dorm, he saw the girl that he had first met in his class, at first he wanted to ignore her but he just couldn't bring himself to that.
"Um. Hey it's me again." Riven said with a small smile.
The girl took her eyes of the book she was reading, looking at him for a moment. "What do you want?" she asked brushing the hair in front of her face.
Riven, who was expecting a snub, was surprised by the sudden drop in her hostility from earlier. To be honest, he hadn't even thought of preparing a reasonable conversation with the girl.
"Um. Well I was wondering if you could..uhh…" Riven's head was scrambling for a presentable thing to say, and then it hit him. "I was wondering if you could tell me what this is for." He said bringing out the card that he received earlier.
The girl eyed him, like she was debating whether to accept his request or just ignore him again. Finally she sighed, closing the book and placing it on her lap.
"That, assuming they didn't tell you, is a student ID card, we use it to gain access into some places and make purchases but it varies.
"In the sense that, there are different tiers to the card; Plain, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond, the same goes for the accounts." The girl brought out a plain card with silver LED edges.
"The Card color is for accessing places or defining ranks, while the edges are your current account balance. Since the schools here don't use money, we use points as a currency here.
"Sure we have an allowance per month but the amount depends on your card color, we can gain points by doing tasks, achievements or things like that."
"I see…so how do you increase your card color and account balance?" Riven said, listening attentively.
"Well, the amount of cash that can be in a student's account depends on the card color, plain allows bronze and silver accounts, bronze allows Gold accounts but not higher than that, and Silver and Gold can go up to Platinum."
"So what about the Diamond Cards?" Riven asked.
"Those," the girl pointed a finger up, though not necessarily at anyone. "Are for the top dogs. A.K.A. The Student Council, the most respected and powerful students on campus. That card is basically a free pass into everything and anything."
Riven's eyes went wide. "Are you kidding me! Those student councils must be crazy cool."
"They are…but it's really rare to meet them off campus, especially their President. Word is he went for a task the school gave him and hasn't been in school for a while."
Riven didn't even try to hide his disappointment. "Awn, it would have been awesome if I could see them."
The girl shrugged, "Who knows, maybe you will one of these days."
The other cracked a smile. "Yeah, Just gotta stay positive…Anyways, thanks – err…"
"Harumi. Harumi Fuyuki."
"Harumi Fuyuki? Oh! You're a foreigner?!" Riven gasped.
The other just rolled her eyes, continuing her book and ignoring Riven.
"Hey c'mon just tell me." Riven pleaded.
No answer.
"Fine then, I'll just wait until later when you're ready to talk." Riven said, getting up and heading into the dorm. "Thanks for the chat Harumi."
He added as he cracked a wide silly grin before disappearing inside.
The other looked at the spot where he stood before shaking her head, "What an idiot." She muttered to herself.
___
Riven woke up the next morning with a dull headache, he groaned as he got up to his feet rubbing his head.
"That damned brat…", he muttered under his breath.
The night earlier, he and Azrael where in the middle of a game of cards when Lucian decided he wanted to use the table for an 'important task'. And as always it had resulted in another squabble between the two.
"Not like he even needed the stupid thing, bet he was just looking for a fight…and I would gladly give him one of he wanted it."
Riven stretched with a yawn, a golden necklace — which was certainly not on his neck earlier before — gleaming with the small rays of sunlight that cracked into his room through the curtains.
The box which he had been given was now opened and left on the bedside drawer.
Well. I guess I should explore the school more, after all, it is the weekends.
Riven put on his black T-shirt and some cargo pants, before opening the door.
The dorm was unusual quiet which either meant that the others were either still asleep or had left as well. Either way, Riven left the dorm, locking the door behind him.
"Alright here I go…" He said psyching himself as he fidgeted with the necklace slightly.
He walked out of the porch and into the pathway. The first place he headed to, was the cafeteria, because for some strange reason his appetite had increased drastically.
On the way there, he heard some noises close-by, being curious he turned the corner to see the source of the commotion; two students fighting in the midst of a crowd, one was a lean tall elf and the other a stocky orc.
Wait fights happen in this school?!
The elf had just delivered a roundhouse to the orc head making him stumble back a bit.
"Hmph. All you orcs rely on is brute strength, while we elves are much more superior in our fighting tactics." The elf taunted.
The orc tried to swing a fist and the other ducked low, preparing for an uppercut but the orc caught his arm mid-motion and threw him at a nearby tree.
"How's that!" the orc yelled.
"You bastard!" The elf said as he got to his feet and charged straight at the other.
Riven frantically looked around if someone was sensible enough to step in but it looked like it would be more of a suicide attempt that a intervention.
"Those two are gonna tear each other apart." A student whispered.
"What even caused all this?" another said as she watched the two brutally clash.
"I heard it was about which species was more superior." A boy, who recorded the whole thing with his phone said.
"Again?!"
As absurd as it may sound, they were quite a few students — Mythics even, of certain species who believed that their species should have rule over Mythic Island.
This was somewhat, a rather trivial topic, because the Island was always ruled by the Council — a group of Mythics that have been around since time can tell, but some didn't seat well with that decision
Riven looked in both fear and awe as the two continued in their battle.
This is bad. Really bad. If someone steps in things could go south real quick…Should I try? NO WAY! I would just get killed!
Riven head spiraled into several different thoughts, he hadn't actually witness a school fight he couldn't do anything.
If this was a normal school he could have easily overpowered at least one of them but that wasn't the case, if he even tried to — it could spell doom for him.
"YOU STUPID DAMNED ELVES!!" the orc roared grabbing a bench with both hands and flung it at the elf with all the strength he had.
The elf quickly rolled to the side dodging the projectile but it continued on its flight hurling at a student.
"Crap!" Riven had gotten so deep in his thought that he didn't know what to do as the gap between he and the bench closed up slowly.
Riven closed his eyes as he braced himself for impact, but it didn't.
"I come back to meet this?" a voice said.
Riven looked up to see another student — dressed in a simple tank top and jeans with a jacket tied around his waist, caught the bench with a hand gripping it firmly.
Riven's savior put it down gently, looking at the two who froze up looking at the student, who looked pissed.
"Alright which one of you started this whole damn thing."
