"Information about your dormitories and the facilities that students can use can be found on your phones," Instructor Shawn said, looking at his students, fifteen of them, among whom was Ethan.
He had been explaining how everything worked within the university as a whole, as well as how the four academies functioned as separate entities.
He told them that they wouldn't be part of any academy but would receive guidance directly from him.
He went on to share some more crucial information.
"Now, before we begin business, I have to ask a few things," Instructor Shawn continued.
"Have all of you learned Detection Sense?"
Ethan and the others nodded.
At the mention of Detection Sense, Raiya's eyes immediately turned toward Ethan.
Raiya was also one of Instructor Shawn's students.
"It's a good thing I learned Detection Sense beforehand, or I'd be the only idiot here who doesn't know it," Ethan sighed silently.
Then the instructor, Shawn, went on to ask many more questions, most of which were related to their professions and skills.
After that, he dismissed the class, saying they could take the rest of the day for themselves, rest, and not level up, at least not until he gave permission.
Everyone left, except for Ethan.
"I asked you to stay behind because your profession is brand new. I need to learn more about it so I can see if I have to make any changes to the plans I made for your growth," Instructor Shawn explained.
He waved his hand, and a few glowing cards flew from somewhere and hovered above his palm, floating just an inch above his skin.
"What is that skill? Telekinesis? I wonder what his profession is," Ethan thought as he silently used Detection Sense on him.
It would be considered rude to say someone's level and profession out loud, but as long as you didn't say it, it was fine.
A few seconds later, information flowed into Ethan's mind.
---
[Profession: ???]
[Level: ???]
---
"What the hell? Did I mess up Detection Sense?" Ethan was surprised that he couldn't find the instructor's level or profession.
"What happened? Can't see my level and profession?" Instructor Shawn asked, grinning.
"Yes... Is that a skill that negates Detection Sense?" Ethan asked.
"It's not a skill per se."
"You see, my profession grants me the ability to access and enhance a special non-physical attribute, which increases my energy and mental energy control," Shawn continued.
"You use the waves emitted by Awakeners to judge their level and profession through Detection Sense. I can disrupt those waves outside my body, making them unreadable."
"Try using Detection Sense now," Shawn said.
Ethan nodded and used it again.
This time, he was able to see the result.
---
[Profession: Force Warrior]
[Level: 94]
---
"Force Warrior? I've never heard of that profession," Ethan muttered.
He had read about many professions, but this was the first time he'd seen this one.
Then it hit him that there wasn't much information about evolved professions.
That might explain it.
As for the existence of special attributes, he hadn't even known they existed until now.
"Is it an evolved profession, Sir Shawn?" Ethan asked.
"Yes, it is. My awakened profession was Flash Knight. I'm sure you've read about that one, right?"
"Yes. The Flash Knight profession is a pure combat type with high-speed attack skills, quite similar to the Assassin profession, but with much greater attack power," Ethan explained.
"Exactly. Good job studying professions beforehand. While the information you found might not always be absolute, it still gives you a general idea," Shawn said with a smile. "Anyway, I was lucky enough to evolve my initial profession into the Force Warrior profession."
"Enough about me. Let's talk about your profession," Shawn continued.
"From what you've described, there's a high possibility your profession is a hybrid-class profession. We know one part of it involves summoning, judging by your initial skills. But before we move forward, we need to learn the other aspects of your profession."
"To do that, we'll use these." Shawn showed him several glowing cards hovering over his palm.
"These are called Skill Resonance Cards. Each of these cards contains information about a certain class of skills that can only be read by those with a corresponding profession," Shawn explained.
"Try this one." He handed Ethan a card that emitted a faint blue glow, as if made of countless tiny stars.
Ethan held the card and poured his spiritual energy into it. Instantly, a speck of incomprehensible information entered his mind before fading away.
"I felt the information of the skill entering my mind, but it disappeared," Ethan said.
"That means it worked. That Skill Resonance Card belonged to the Controller Class. This proves your profession falls under the Controller Class," Shawn explained.
Summoner-type professions predominantly belong to the Controller Class.
Since one aspect of this profession involves summoning the undead, it falls under the Controller Class.
"I get it. If I try to use a Skill Resonance Card from a class my profession doesn't have an affinity with, it will fail," Ethan said, nodding slowly.
"Exactly. Now, try using the rest one by one."
Ethan picked up a shining red card and used it, but nothing happened.
"Your class doesn't belong to the Combat Class," Shawn said.
Next, he tried a purple card.
Similar to the first time he used the Skill Resonance Card, he felt profound information enter his mind before disappearing.
It was a success.
"Hybrid profession of Controller and Magic classes..." Shawn murmured, pondering for a few seconds before asking him to continue.
He then used a shining green card.
This time, the card glowed faintly, and he felt information enter his mind.
"This is too amazing... Your profession is an Advanced-Class Profession."
Advanced-Class Professions are one level higher than Hybrid-Class Professions.
If Hybrid-Class Professions possess aspects of two classes, then Advanced-Class Professions possess aspects of more than two classes.
"There have only been a handful of Advanced-Class Professions throughout history..."
"An Advanced-Class Profession of the Controller, Magic, and Support categories. That means you have the potential to awaken and learn Controller, Magic, and Support type skills, three categories of skills. The potential of your profession seems limitless."
A few seconds later, his expression returned to normal.
"For now, don't tell anyone about this. If anyone asks, just say your profession is a Hybrid-Class profession. Advanced-Class professions will draw too much unwanted attention."
"I understand," Ethan agreed.
"Continuing on, try the remaining two cards."
The remaining ones were white and multicolored.
He used the white one first, and it succeeded.
"That Skill Resonance Card corresponds to Unclassified Skills, skills that any profession, regardless of class, can acquire. Notice I said acquire, not learn, because these skills can only be acquired, not learned," Shawn explained.
Ethan nodded and used the last card, the multicolored one, and it worked, too.
Shawn's eyes widened in surprise. "Interesting."
"What does that Skill Resonance Card correspond to?" Ethan asked, noticing his reaction.
"That card corresponds to Special Class Skills," Shawn said.
"Are Special Class Skills powerful?" Ethan asked, curiosity rising.
"Well, I wouldn't call them powerful. It would be more accurate to say they're mysterious and highly sought after. They're somewhat similar to passive skills; they don't have levels, but their effects grow stronger as the Awakener grows. Not every profession has the affinity to learn Special Class Skills, but yours does," Shawn explained.
"How does one acquire Special Class Skills?" Ethan asked.
"No one really knows. As far as I know, there are special conditions one would have to fulfill to even get a chance to acquire them," Shawn said.
"Anyway, you can take the rest of the day for yourself—get acquainted with the others."
Ethan nodded, left the mansion that belonged to Instructor Shawn, and headed back toward the dormitory.
But after walking for a few minutes, he changed his mind, turning instead toward the training grounds to practice his [Mourning Rain] skill.
Unlike his summoning skill, this one required continuous use to level up.
The training grounds were essentially dungeons without monsters.
There were dozens of them across the university, built specifically for training skills and conducting research.
The density of spiritual energy within them was also high, making it easier for Awakeners to recover their spiritual energy after depletion.
Ethan spent about six hours inside the dungeon, training until his skill finally matched his level.
[Your Skill [Mourning Rain] has reached Level 7]
"With my [One Ascends] trait doubling my spiritual energy reserves, I can use this skill about eight times and still have more than enough to spare," Ethan muttered.
"Let's see..."
