Chapter 4 - Kalni

"Bitch! You stabbed me!" The thug exclaimed as he clutched his eye and his two men drew out their swords to face the one who had attacked their leader.

The attacker held their own sword down as if showing that they didn't want this to go any further.

Even going so far as to reveal their face from behind their hood.

To Arken who was standing behind he saw a rush of long red hair fall and the person, a girl, shook her head.

"Wow," he said.

"Sincere apologies gentlemen, but I already told you not to disturb me," she said in the most annoying manner possible.

Both Arken and the three goons stared at her in utter silence.

Who the fuck talks like that?

The injured one burst out laughing as did his comrades.

That brought a huge shift in the girls demeanor and she sighed, "alright fine. You scum deserve the absolute worst. Filthy rats who dare to raise..."

It was a torrent of cuss word after cuss word that followed and the goon's faces fell at each of them making them say now in disgust and shame, "who the hell talks like that? Are you even a woman?"

To that she only lifted her sword and took a few paces forward as she said, "scram."

And they did just that.

Well that was fun. Better be going.

The girl suddenly stiffened and turned in his direction with a whirl, eyes darting to and fro. Arken didn't dare take a step.

"Who goes there? Friend? Foe?"

Arken quietly slipped away.

Damn, didn't i have the skill activated?

[Affirmative]

He kept his eyes on her as he retreated and he saw her put her hood back on with stealth, emerging from the shadow of the alleys, blade sheathed but no less threatening.

Uh-huh I know a trouble seeker when I see one.

He quickly turned around and beautifully bumped into a cart of fruits earning shocked exclamations at the apparent 'invisible' obstacle that had overturned their cart.

Great.

He jumped and ran, looking back. She was staring right at the commotion but he could make out that she was struggling to pinpoint exactly where he was.

Good.

After a few blocks he stumbled into a large building off the corner of a smaller street, away from the main parts of the city then closed the door behind him.

[Skill Extra dissolved]

"Hah...hah...that was close...phew," he wiped his forehead and leaned back to rest his head on a very odd feeling wall but he ignored it.

The skills probably don't last long do they?

No answer came but he figured it was the case.

"Hello, are you lost?"

A soft female voice startled him and he turned. A big bosomed mature woman in tight skirt and long heels walked to him, fingers adjusting her spectacles and clutching a hardbound book lazily with a finger in it.

"No I'm...where am I?" He turned to face the odd wall. It was filled with books. An entire shelf that went straight up to the ceiling almost ten to fifteen feet in height.

"A library. That's where you are," the woman said eyes squinting before she relaxed, "I'm Rema."

He nodded and walked to the center, roving around with his eyes and legs as he took the place in.

"Jeez this place is massive," he held back a whistle as he came to the center.

"That was pretty impolite of you," Rema cleared her throat and only then did he realize he had left her standing near the entrance by herself.

"What was? And why are you still there?" He asked her and received a less friendlier gaze from her now.

She clacked her heels towards him and gave a big humph of disapproval.

"You're supposed to give your name when someone tells you theirs," she said.

Eh, what crone did I run into?

"Ok fine, I'm....what's the name? Yeah, I'm Arken." He said it casually before wondering if he had made a huge mistake.

"Arken, hmm, I think I knew a priest by that name but maybe I'm mistaken," her words made him sigh slowly in relief.

Idiot.

"Well whatever do you want here, Arken?" She went up behind her large desk that basically was like a reception lobby and saw right at all the shelves and the entrance from that point.

"Library, books," Arken muttered then smiled, "well knowledge of course."

Rema chuckled as she sat down and opened her book, "you don't seem like a very bookish person."

That irked him more than he thought it would.

"You'd know that very well wouldn't you? I'm sure you spend all your days here among dust and mites reading fiction for women and judging real men," the words slipped out before he could stop.

Rema merely glanced up and said, "see I knew you were an impolite, rude and unkempt bastard the moment you entered."

"I'll be uhm," Arken cleared his throat and walked to an aisle randomly to get away from her, "here, if that's alright."

He got another loud hmph from her but then silence followed. He was left to himself.
