District 13, Precinct Office.
Everyone's worst fears had come true; several individuals in local Planetary Defence Force uniforms had joined the cultists' ranks.
They carried standard issue Laser Guns, and a few of the bastards even pulled out personal firearms of different styles.
The enemy's numbers were beyond imagination; dozens of twisted monsters surged into the plaza from all directions, gathering here with unwavering resolve, a sight that filled Cain with dread.
"Damn traitors!"
Fides raised her gun and fired at the traitors.
Cain gasped for breath, feeling the air in his lungs rasp with an abrasive sound; he couldn't maintain that pace any longer.
He looked at Li Feng and noticed that Li Feng was just as composed as he had been when they fled the Hive Tyrant, his breathing steady, as if he hadn't run for several kilometers but merely stepped out to grab some takeout.
At this moment, the Gretchin surged forward like a malicious, unyielding, and relentless tide, which reminded Li Feng of the Tyranid Swarm, for it was those creatures that had fabricated evil intentions for them and dispatched them to infiltrate the Imperium.
"Things are getting more and more interesting."
Vinita sneered, casually shooting down a pursuer who was running at the front of the pack.
The others didn't even hesitate, flowing around the unfortunate corpse like water around a rock.
Another group of enemies was coming around the corner of the Precinct Office, attempting to cut off the team's connection to the shelter by flanking them.
A remarkably accurate Las-fire struck the hem of Cain's greatcoat, tearing a hole in it like a mischievous child.
"Target those shooters!" Cain shouted loudly to Li Feng and the Nuns behind him.
If they couldn't disrupt their firing, Cain and Vinita, who were at the front, would be turned into two cold corpses within seconds.
Of course, if they were genuine Astra Militarum Soldiers, Cain and Vinita would have been dead long ago; Cain couldn't help but be grateful for the Emperor's gift of habitual carelessness to these Planetary Defence Force members.
Li Feng turned around and raised his revolver.
It was then that Cain noticed Li Feng's gun had changed, becoming more avant-garde and advanced, but under these circumstances, for a mere revolver, Cain didn't hold much hope.
Li Feng pressed the trigger of the plasma-version Ace of Spades; the cylinder began to spin wildly inside the gun, accumulating energy.
With a massive blue plasma bolt, it struck the ground at the feet of the shooters at an extremely high speed.
A huge plasma explosion erupted there; the high temperature generated by the plasma explosion instantly vaporized the shooters closest to the blast's epicenter, while the remaining shooters were directly blown to pieces.
"This... this..."
Cain and Vinita were too astonished to speak; at this moment, Li Feng's image in their eyes was so towering, and Li Feng and the Nuns quickly retreated to their sides and pulled them up.
"What are you waiting for! Run!"
Subsequently, they continued to block the enemy at this corner.
Cain and Vinita continued to run towards the door of the Precinct Office; he couldn't run anymore, he really couldn't run anymore...
At this moment, several traitor Soldiers in front were scared out of their wits by Li Feng's immense firepower.
The rebellious Soldiers all fell to the ground, slowing their pursuit, scrambling for cover.
"Cowards!"
For a moment, the reckless bravado born of adrenaline and the proximity of death made Cain lose his self-control; he roared:
"Get up and fight like men, damn it!"
"Are you crazy?"
Vinita looked at Cain with a surprised expression.
He raised his Chainsword and directly killed a traitor who was lunging with a bayonet, then backhanded to sever a Gretchin trying to ambush Vinita.
"Run, you idiot!"
Cain then noticed several potential attackers fall, their chests embedded with bloody bullet holes, and at this moment, the distinctive crackle of lasguns and the roar of Bolters came from the front.
"Over here, Political Commissar! Quickly!"
Yugen urged Cain with his familiar voice, and when Cain looked up at the nearby Precinct Office, he saw him crouching behind a pillar supporting the porch, holding a lasgun and spreading death among the large group of cultists behind them.
The Battle Sisters who had first gathered back at the Precinct Office had already set up barricades, standing behind windows and door panels, using their Bolters to fire at the tide of Gretchin attacking from all directions.
A moment later, Cain spotted another muzzle flash, which allowed him to identify Elson in the same posture, smoothly clearing targets one by one with precise marksmanship.
Upon seeing Cain and Li Feng, the Soldier grinned, clearly having a great time.
Larabi stood by the door, his blue Peacekeeper uniform contrasting sharply with his gleaming, old-fashioned firearm.
The Police Officer was continuously unleashing firepower in full-auto mode, yet lacked even superficial professionalism; fortunately, the huddled mass of twisted limbs made for excellent targets, requiring no precise aiming.
Wherever his fierce firepower reached, the bastard Genestealers and human cultists were mown down like wheat before a harvester.
Accompanied by Yugen's encouragement in their ears and Li Feng's support, they made their final sprint.
What slightly surprised Cain was that a small part of his consciousness was still admiring the graceful posterior of Sheriff Vinita, who was leaping up the steps a few meters ahead of him, and then, almost before Cain registered this, they had already rushed into the cool marble foyer of the Precinct Office.
As Li Feng turned around, he saw Larabi and the Battle Sisters closing the door, and at this moment, Yugen and Elson had also retreated inside the door.
They were still firing at the frenzied mob; outside, those individuals had already rushed to the top of the steps, clambering over their fallen comrades, intent only on surging through the gradually closing gap before them.
They almost succeeded; the door stopped just a few centimeters from being fully closed, and a chitinous arm with three scythe-like claws was forced in.
As it wildly thrashed against the door, trying to get a grip, its sharp claws gouged a deep groove in the thick hardwood door.
Two gunners leaped forward to assist the Police Officer, pressing their shoulders firmly against the wooden door, but even with the combined efforts of three people, the sheer numerical advantage on the other side began to force the door open again.
Li Feng's left hand twisted, and the folding short sword immediately sprang out, severing the disgusting arm.
It fell to the floor, twitching uncontrollably, oozing foul pus, and the door slammed shut.
Larabi engaged the locking mechanism, and the thick steel bolts snapped back into place, securely locking the door behind them.
At this moment, the Nuns were checking their weapons and ammunition, Li Feng was also reloading his revolver-cannon, and Fides was still communicating via radio to confirm the situation.
Currently, among the Battle Sisters who had gathered back at the Precinct Office, besides Fides, there were five... no, four, only two five-person squads had successfully returned.
Aside from one squad that had lost contact, the remaining squads had joined forces with nearby small contingents of Astra Militarum or local security forces, holding several strongpoints.
Fides summarized the situation on the Nuns' side; it wasn't too bad, but the number of Gretchin was overwhelming, and the Nuns were running low on ammunition.
This Precinct Office also didn't have bullets for their Bolters.
Although they could engage the Gretchin in glorious melee combat, that would undoubtedly increase the Nuns' casualty rate.
"What were you thinking just now? Were you trying to get yourself killed?" Vinita glared at Cain, her expression quite complex.
Cain felt no need to admit that in his despair, he hadn't even noticed that his comrades had already cleared a path to the shelter for them, so he merely shrugged and said in the tone of a heroic Political Commissar:
"Well, you know, 'ladies first.'"
It must be said, the effect of this remark was very satisfying; she silently walked over and hugged Cain, then turned aside to assess the current situation with her usual professional demeanor.
Elson and Larabi looked at Cain with undisguised admiration.
Li Feng walked over and patted Cain's shoulder, a mischievous grin on his face as he said:
"It has to be you, Political Commissar!"
And Cain suddenly became certain (and it proved to be true) that with "appropriate" embellishment, reports of Cain's chivalry and heroism would spread throughout the entire region before the end of the week.
He turned to Yugen, who was assessing the situation outside with his usual calm composure.
"What's our situation?"
"Terrible," Elson muttered softly, then turned back to the nearest window and, along with the Battle Sisters Miss, began to shoot the abominable monsters outside for his own amusement.
Fortunately, Peacekeepers tended to be cautious, so this place was built to easily withstand a siege; the surrounding windows were reduced in size, providing excellent firing positions for the defenders.
"This place is quite suitable for defense," Yugen continued, ignoring Elson's comment:
"Fourteen Battle Sisters plus us; if we had a full company with heavy firepower teams and armored units, we could clear the entire area.
Unfortunately, our current manpower is too dispersed.
The biggest problem is that we are now lacking ammunition, and the Nuns' bullets are also running low."
"If that's the case, then we might as well hope for a Space Marine Chapter of Astartes and a naval fleet."
Cain said, but Yugen was immune to the sarcasm, merely nodding.
"Lack of ammunition? I have some here!"
Li Feng said, unzipping his backpack, then quickly used a panel to conjure a pile of Bolter rounds and magazines, as well as lasgun power packs, from his bag, then dumped them all on the ground.
Everyone gasped collectively at the sight of so much ammunition.
Fides picked up a few magazines, placed them on her power armour, then took off her helmet and asked:
"Where did you get so many bullets?"
Li Feng quickly came up with an excuse: "I made these with Ma Yinglong in the workshop during this time.
I thought since I'm going on a mission with you Nuns this time, I'd act as your quartermaster or something."
Suddenly, Li Feng's cheeks were cupped by a pair of hands wearing Sisters' combat gloves, and then a warm pair of lips pecked his cheek like a bird...
This action completely petrified everyone around them...
The Nuns immediately covered the sides of their helmets, trying to conceal their excited squeals within their helmets.
"Thank you, you are the angel the Emperor sent me."
Fides's expression was smiling at this moment, just like Rem from Re:Zero, radiating pure and sincere affection in her smile...
Li Feng was a little flustered by the sudden kiss on his cheek.
The last time he saw that expression was when Li Feng and Sanguinius exchanged gifts during the New Year...
Li Feng gave Sanguinius an iPad, and that rich woman gave Li Feng a car...
At this moment, Yugen quietly said behind Cain: "Political Commissar, your progress is much slower than the Lieutenant's..."
And Sheriff Vinita, who was equipping her armor and weapons in the distance, seeing this scene, revealed an auntie smile: "Ah, young people..."
At this moment, Elson, who was at the window, shooting Gretchin outside with a Sister of Battle, looked at the Nun in front of him, and in a moment of impulse, subconsciously blurted out:
"Nun Miss, can you kiss me?"
The Nun mechanically turned her head, picked up a police baton from the Police Officer's desk nearby, pointed it at Elson's crotch, and then crushed the baton with her bare hands...
"Sorry, I said nothing!"
