Chapter 8 - Cadet Course

"So, I'll be allowed to transcend the spirit realm if I grow stronger by joining the military?" Zylus asked, staring at Chris Tall.

"Yes, you will, you will indeed," Chris answered, as he began opening the metal cell.

Once Zylus was found on the mudded floor, a man named Chris Tall found him lying there. He couldn't believe what had happened. But the military received reports from others regarding suspicious activities.

The man, Chris Tall, was a six-foot-four blonde with wavy hair falling to his brows, and blue eyes that made every girl fall in love. He had a scar crossing his right eye all the way down to the bottom of his lip, sideways. He also had a manly moustache, a brown one. He was wearing a completely decked-out blue military uniform, complete with badges covering up his buttoned-up suit.

When he saw Zylus lying on the floor, he wondered what could've happened. So, as the cadets finished searching the cabin Zylus had been seduced into earlier, all they found were the bodies of their fallen comrades. The ones Zylus got vengeance for. Chris Tall decided to take Zylus into custody. Having said this, he didn't believe Zylus was the one responsible for the murders. But he couldn't take his attention elsewhere.

The spirits were gone, so they had no way of identifying if it was a spirit's actions. It could have been Zylus for all they knew.

Chris Tall, the commander of the Third Military Division, took Zylus into a completely different area. Now, he was staying at the third most populated city in the Demon Realm.

[Location Unlocked: Kelstove Manhattan City]

This was where all warriors, across the Demon realm, gathered to take the cadet course to join the military. Right as soon as every teenager receives notice that they have unlocked their very own system, each one goes straight into applying for a position in the cadet course. The very first step to be renowned as one of the greats in the Demon realm.

Money, woman, riches, and more. They'll give you everything once you get into the military. It is what they say, and what they stand on. You simply must fight for your stance.

As Zylus was taken to Kelstove, he was thrown into a pitch black cell. The only light came from a dying candle in his corner, and stone walls were all that surrounded him and the circular prison he stayed in. But someone was in front of the tight cell, and it was none other than Chris Tall. Ten minutes later, he finally began to regain consciousness.

However, many questions awaited his response. All from that one man, Chris Tall. Who was frowning indangerly while awaiting Zylus. Not accepting anyone else to come near those two.

First, he handed Zylus a cup of water under the cell, as Zylus was attempting to recall what had happened.

"I'll ask first," Chris said, "What were you doing there?"

He asked as Zylus was taking a sip of water. But the teenage boy remained calm, because he's been through police investigations multiple times in his life.

"I didn't do anything." Zylus replied, "I got revenge for your slain comrades." He coolly said.

Zylus already knew who Chris Tall was, as Chris explained to him before they went further into detail. He explained everything there was to be said.

His name, the military, where they stood, what had happened, and his position.

"That's enough." Chris replied, "You will now be trying out for the Cadet course."

It was odd-

Nice of him to believe me already.

"If you're wondering how I can believe you already…" He paused, as sweat began coming off of Zylus's face nervously, "It's because I sensed the presence of a spirit in that cabin. Even though they had vanished, I still sensed sparks left behind. But for the ones who could've killed the forsaken creatures, you can stop lying to me right now. No one except us upper ranks can take them on."

Zylus couldn't care enough that Chris wouldn't believe him. He was flabbergasted at his own sheer strength and the power of killing those spirits.

"Anyways, kid, before I let you off the hook, I'll teach you how to deliberately access your system by will."

He said, as he showed him step by step how to use his system to improve his base stats, equip his demonic weapon by will, and fidget around with the system.

Ah, I see now. So not only can I improve my Demonic weapon's strength, but also my own.

Zylus has now learned that simply moving your index finger upwards will allow the system to automatically open in front of the user's eyes. He was also taught that there are three tabs at the top of his square screen of each system. The first one, which was labelled as 'Stream.' This presents all important notices, such as the date of your next daily objective, other quests you may take on, secret quests that you have yet to unlock, your location, your current strength, and more. Oh, and also, if you want to fast-track any of your daily objectives.

So this was what Medrus spoke to me about. Talking about Medrus... he vanished like that Spirit I obliterated earlier. Damn.

His other tab was labelled as 'Work.' This screen presents the user to use his SP, which are known as 'System Points,' into any category of separate abilities of his choosing. Each category of abilities displays the following:

Cool colour, I rate that my system is in full black.

At the top, it says 'Status.'

[Level 2]

[Demon System: Raging Katana]

[Hp: 100/100]

[LS (Life Strength Which Help Boost Power): 10/10]

[Fatigue: 0]

Below all this, in a tiny box, it showed categories of separate abilities with a plus sign on the right of them. With a note,

[Use System Points To Help Improve Abilities!]

[Strength: 0]

[Agility: 0]

[Awareness: 0]

[Vitality: 0]

[Intelligence: 0]

[SP Points: 20]

And the third tab was labelled as 'Marketplace,' which Zylus has yet to uncover it as it showed a lock sign, labelling it as,

[Level 10 Requirement!]

However, Zylus caught on to something. Chris Tall told him that everyone receives only one ability to improve per system; some exceptions, he said, are people with two, and the ones who are considered 'top ranks' are the ones with three abilities able to improve. So why…

Why can I improve multiple abilities? It shows a green plus sign beside each ability. This might be a perk or a glitch. So I should probably stay secretive for now. I can't know until I try it.

Before Chris left, he made sure to let Zylus know one more thing.

"As you improve, your demonic weapon will improve with you."

Then, he began taking steps away from Zylus, but the little boy screamed one more thing out loud…

"I don't have a place to stay!" Zylus yelled out as Chris continued walking.

"You can go sleep in this jail cell for all I care! I told you when the Cadet Course will be, and I have already registered you!" Chris continued taking steps away from Zylus, "The rest is up to you!"

Piece of shit.

Zylus then raised his index finger,

[Strength Upgraded!]

And then Zylus split those System Points, until he finally lost sight of any more.

[Strength: 10]

[Agility: 5]

[Awareness: 5]

[Vitality: 0]

[Intelligence: 0]

[SP Points: 0]

And Zylus smirked, as if he had already achieved his goal. As he began creaking open the jail cell, he placed his hands in his pockets and uttered one last thing…d

"Let's go."
