Chapter 9 - Zylus Elwis Has Changed

"Fuck! I'm gonna be late!"

A good-looking and buff man was breathing heavily, running in constant motion, twisting through alleyways, jumping over fences, going through hordes of people, all to get to one place.

[Timer: 0:03 Remaining]

[Arrived at Marked Destination!]

"Gotta get in before it's too late."

He ran through the shiny glass door, pushing it wide open. As this man entered the building, only a receptionist with a desk was ahead. The receptionist was a snowbunny with lustful curves around her body.

He ran up to her, "Sorry I'm late! Here's my ID."

Without a word, she angrily took his fully silvered-out ID card, scanning it into her scanning device on the second layer of her desk.

"Why is he so hot?" She blushed, whispering low so that the man ahead couldn't hear.

"What was that?" He asked, politely.

"Oh, nothing." She angrily replied, as if deliberately shifting her personality.

Receptionist Pov:

He's hot. But being good-looking can only go so far in this world. Strength is what matters.

CLICK!

The sound came from the ID scanner.

"Cadet identified!" A voice came out of the scanner.

"Here you go…"

She handed the man back his card.

"This security right here will guide you into the gymnasium. It's already bad you're late, so better not piss anyone off." She said, giving a tip before that man began following the security.

As he walked inside the building, towards an elevator on the right of the receptionist, the security looked upset.

"Hey, kid." The security said, "I'm Esteveo, nice to meet you."

He was dressed in a black suit and tie, with black dress pants and dress shoes. He wasn't that big either, maybe six feet, but not buff. While all this is said, he seemed as if all he could rely on were his fists, as there were no weapons he would turn to on him. He had black eyes and a low buzz cut, with a shiny gold chain.

"Nice to meet you, sir." The man replied.

As both of them reached the elevator, Esteveo clicked on a button, aiming downwards. They were outside, waiting for an elevator made out of what looked to be metal, with it taking its sweet time. But the man was in a clear hurry.

Hurry up, damn it. The man said in his mind.

"Floor G! Going Down!"

A voice came out of the elevator this time. Everything is futuristic here, huh. That same man pondered.

"You first," Esteveo said, moving his arm to point to the entrance of the elevator.

As the man accepted and entered, the security followed.

"Clicked On Floor: Test!"

And just as that artificial intelligence-type of voice came out of the elevator, the doors behind them began shutting. It was a fully blank black space, with only a light bulb above. And soon it became evident, the elevator began moving.

Downwards.

"How did a kid like you get so buff?" Esteavo wondered, aggressively asking.

"My goal." He replied, moving to the entrance of the elevator as the doors began opening once more.

"Test Floor Arrived! Going Up!"

The AI voice coming out of the elevator said, as it waited a couple of seconds before escalating.

"Hey, kid, this is where we part ways. Good luck." Esteavo said.

The man put his head down in a respectful manner, "Thanks so much."

As he got out, the elevator began closing its door from behind, taking the security, Esteavo, with it.

"Cadet 442! Kernell Moose! Present!"

"Cadet 443! Murray Ashwan! Present!"

Someone up front began stating each name row by row continuously.

Ahh fuck they're counting already, gotta hurry up and get to my line.

The man began running through a humongous gymnasium, with white walls, a black stage up front, and a grey tiled floor.

Everywhere he went, there were rows of demon cadets, ready to take on a trial to become soldiers. Earning them glory was everyone's goal.

As he ran through everyone, he finally found his spot, which was near the end of every row to the very right, all the way at the back.

"Late on the first day?" A girl beside him said, glaringly.

"Yeah, that's on me." He replied.

As the leaders up on the stage continuously counted, the man and this woman started a conversation.

"By the way," she turned her attention towards the man, "Good looks won't get you far, and as far as I'm concerned, you're probably the same as everybody else. Only here for money, fame, woman and greed."

The man didn't care too much; he just smiled. Not in agreement, but to try and shake off her grudge against him.

"That right there pisses me off," she said, "I actually want to protect this place. I lost my sister when I was younger to a spirit. If all you want to do is get women, go die in hell."

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

She was in the row beside him, not even in his. But she was gorgeous, with blond hair, lustful curves, green eyes, and was about the same height as the man she was talking badly towards.

"It's already bad enough having entire rosters filled with lazy and lustful guys. I should narrow it down so that on test day, there wouldn't be much deciding going on, and they would just pick me… Emilia Scorce, the third."

Sounds noble, the man thought in his mind.

"So leave while you can," Emilia said, crossing her arms while staring back up to the stage.

"Cadet 993! Emilia Scorce! Present."

As her name was called out, many whispers began going across the room.

"No way, is that actually her?"

"Yeah, I heard she's like a prodigy."

"I heard even Chris Tall admires her."

Huh, Chris Tall. That brings me back. Now I'm here, and changed so much it's honestly pretty insane.

"You hear that?" Emilia said, looking towards the man. "That's glory. You can't walk in my shoes, idiot."

Now the man on her right began getting pissed off. I mean, who wouldn't? So he shifted his attention towards her as they began calling the final Cadet.

"Cadet 1,000!"

"Hey, Emily." He said.

"That's not my name!"

"I don't care." The man then continued, "Everyone has something they go through in their lives. Don't think this world revolves around you, because it doesn't. And they're about to call my name, so listen up and remember it."

"Cadet 1,000! Present! Zylus Elwis!"

Yes, it was him, our lovely protagonist. But now he has changed, and no one knew how he had changed. His looks have gotten better, he's gotten taller now, and more buff.

Emilia got pissed, but she let it go. Acknowledging she's from a royal bloodline, it would be an embarrassment for her to mess with this peasant.
