Chapter 7 - Chapter 7 Former Colleague and the Cropped Photo

Inside Ve Dinh Tieu's house, there were very few belongings, almost empty.

At first glance, the place gave the impression that no one had been living there long-term.

He said that previously he had stayed in the police dormitory with all colleagues, convenient for work and close to the Urban Police Department, so this apartment had always been left vacant.

In the room, there were only a few simple pieces of furniture and some personal items.

On the tea table, there were a few unopened medicine boxes, and on top was an old newspaper related to the shopping mall explosion three years ago.

"Sorry, sorry, I haven't had time to clean up yet."

Ve Dinh Tieu hurriedly shoved the scattered pillows on the sofa back in place, then walked to the table near the window to arrange his documents. A photo frame, buried under a pile of books at the edge of the table, wobbled as if about to fall.

Giai Moc Vi quickly grabbed the falling frame. At the same time, he also reached out just in time, and the palms of their hands brushed together.

Ve Dinh Tieu blinked at her, seemingly surprised by her quick reflex.

In reality, they had officially known each other for less than two weeks.

Apart from some basic information, they were still strangers.

Ve Dinh Tieu still thought of her as a newly graduated female lawyer in training alongside a senior. They had only met by chance when she helped him catch a thief.

She said she liked him. He only regarded her as a cute and interesting junior.

Yet when the bomb on the giant Ferris wheel was discovered, amid the chaotic evacuation, no one expected this small girl to appear out of nowhere as if she had disappeared into the ground.

Neither Lang Trac Un nor Ngan So could hold her back. But now… it seemed this girl had even more mysteries than imagined.

"Did your Kumoi temple teach self-defense too?" Ve Dinh Tieu raised his eyebrow, returning the photo frame to her.

"I heard one of the two kidnappers nearly had his neck broken when you threw him over your shoulder."

Seeing her silent, he continued, "But never mind, asking now is useless, you don't remember anyway."

Indeed, Giai Moc Vi did not remember where she had learned martial arts. Her reaction when kidnapped was purely instinctive.

She glanced at the photo, which showed two people in light blue police uniforms.

One was a younger Ve Dinh Tieu, the other looked more mature, roughly the same age. The two looked very close.

"Is this the colleague you mentioned?" she asked.

Ve Dinh Tieu nodded and put the photo back on the table. Giai Moc Vi examined it carefully and noticed signs of editing. "Seems like there's someone else? I see a sleeve edge sticking out at the photo's corner…"

Ve Dinh Tieu sighed. "Not bad observation. Yes, the original photo had five people. But the others were cut out."

"Why cut them out?"

"Well… a few of them… just looking at them makes you angry, so we cut them out."

She remained silent.

The truth was, they still met occasionally for memorial events at the temple.

Because of their special identities, they always had to be discreet.

No one knew when they would meet next…

Ve Dinh Tieu led her to the spare bedroom. The room was almost empty, with only a mattress covered by a white sheet.

"Sorry, my bedroom is messy, haven't had time to clean. Otherwise, I would have let you sleep here."

"No problem, compared to a hospital room, this is much better."

"Tomorrow I'll buy some tables, chairs, and wardrobes for you. Anything else you need?"

"A wardrobe is enough. Staying at your place like this is already troublesome enough…"

She felt a little embarrassed. Even though he called them "boyfriend and girlfriend," she couldn't shamelessly treat this place as her own home.

Ve Dinh Tieu pressed the light switch. "Click click." The light didn't turn on.

"Broken?" He tried again, but it was still dark.

Giai Moc Vi thought of suggesting to fix it tomorrow, but he disappeared and came back with a black leather suitcase.

Opening the suitcase, it was full of professional repair tools, even screwdrivers of all sizes.

"Are you planning to bring a whole special forces supply home?" She squatted beside him, surprised.

"I bought them myself. Not government issue." He pulled over a chair and patted it.

"Your task is to hand me the tools. Leave the rest to the man."

"Do you really know how to fix this?"

"Relax." Ve Dinh Tieu smiled, stepping onto the chair.

She looked up at him as he disassembled the bulb and checked the wiring, handling everything precisely.

His left hand wore a glove, his right hand deftly reconnected the wires.

Long fingers, steady force, each movement surprisingly precise.

"A bomb expert and an electrician too?"

"Not exactly, I just enjoy taking machines apart. Feeling the inner structure after removing the casing is awesome. Ah, this wire is loose."

She whispered, "A so-called 'fraud police' actually fixing stuff is really trustworthy."

"Trustworthy is just my nature. You'll see later." He winked. "By the way, you should fix how you address me. Call me 'senior' like before~"

He deliberately imitated her old tone.

"Ugh," she shivered.

"Don't deny it, you used to call me exactly that!"

"No way." She glared at him.

He pulled out his phone and shook it. "I have a video. Want to see?"

"Delete it now!" She lunged to grab it.

"Photos are yours, the video of your love vow is yours too. Can't delete that."

"No! You can't! Don't exploit my memory loss to trick me!"

"You'll regret this."

"Absolutely not!"

"Yes!"

"No!"

"Not deleting."

"Hey, don't push! The chair!"

He lost balance and fell toward her. She was still trying to grab the phone when he pinned her onto the bed.

The atmosphere instantly tensed like a taut string. The scent of his curly hair mixed with herbal shampoo and a faint trace of tobacco… enveloped her.

They were so close that her eyelashes nearly brushed his eyes. A little closer… almost touching lips.

He seemed to realize the tension, his hand instinctively moved down her back… hitting the lock.

"Click."

Before Ve Dinh Tieu could react, he saw her eyes flare like she wanted to kill him. A kick shot straight for his "danger zone." Luckily, he quickly used a pillow to block it only the pillow was hit.

"What are you doing?!"

Both shouted at the same time. Giai Moc Vi continued kicking sideways without a word.

"What kind of cop are you, clearly a rogue!"

"Huh? What are you talking about!"

Ve Dinh Tieu didn't have time to explain before she launched another kick. He had to block to protect his handsome face from… losing his memory again.

The two of them wrestled on the bed like children fighting over a toy.

"Bang!"

The bed collapsed.
