Hearing that familiar voice, Seraphina turned towards the newcomer and found that it was Tobias' Grandmother who had walked up to them from the other side of the stage.
Earlier, when the couple had fed the older woman, she had accepted the cake happily but now, she had a frown on her face as she alternated her stern gaze between the two youngsters.
Grandmother had only been told that Tobias was marrying someone he loved.
However, she had not gotten the chance to meet the young lady who would soon become her granddaughter-in-law.
The only information she had about the young lady was what she heard from Tobias and Theresa.
Therefore, she had been curious to meet and get to know the latest addition to their Rion family.
She had planned to meet the bride before the ceremony began but Theresa had informed her that the stylists had been delayed and could not finish dressing the bride on time.
Hence, she could only wait for the ceremony to end before she could meet the new bride.
Unfortunately, the ache in her joints had worsened after standing in the chapel for a while and she had to forgo the chance to meet the new bride outside the chapel.
Only now did she get a good look at the bride and her surprise to find that it was none other than Seraphina was insurmountable.
She was annoyed that she had been kept in the dark for so long that Seraphina, whom she had seen growing up from a young age, would be marrying into their family.
Therefore, she crossed her arms and stared at the couple, her anger clear in her gaze.
"Grammy, it was my idea to surprise you~" Seraphina clung to her arm just as she had done when she was younger and smiled innocently at the older woman.
This act alone was sufficient to wipe away the frown from the old woman's face as she playfully slapped the bride's shoulder, though she did not put any strength into that hit.
Yet Seraphina rubbed her shoulder in an exaggerated manner with a painful groan, making the older woman slap her once again.
Theresa had seen such scenes too many times in the past and broke out into a chuckle when she saw Seraphina behave the same way she had done when she was younger.
This made the other men on the stage with them also smile at the interaction between the older women and the bride.
The guests could not help but appreciate the amicable ambiance that formed on the stage as a few silently clicked pictures of the new bride and groom.
However, no matter how many pictures they clicked, they found that none of them had a clear image of the bride as she was always being covered by either the groom or the other women with her.
Not thinking too much about it, they turned to each other and began discussing the arrangements made for the banquet.
On the stage, Tobias released the breath he had been holding ever since Grandmother had appeared at his side.
He was worried about how he would explain that the bride he had mentioned to her in the past was not the woman standing with him.
Thankfully, Seraphina had stepped up just in time and averted the disaster that could have taken place if Grandmother had noticed the discrepancies in his stories from the past.
'I remember mentioning Selene's name to her...' He wondered why she had not caught the difference in their names.
Regardless of the reason, he was grateful that she had not given it much thought and she was even glad to see that Seraphina was the woman he had married.
"I always knew that you two would end up together!" The old woman exclaimed, patting Seraphina's arm affectionately.
This sentence made the bride and the groom stiffen but neither responded and could only only and force themselves to smile.
However, Grandmother was too happy to notice their microexpressions and instead turned to Shawn with a wider smile.
"Now you should also start looking for a bride for yourself!" She held her younger grandson's arm and urged him to find a partner for himself.
Shawn's smile fell and his eyes inadvertently turned towards Seraphina, who stood behind Grandmother with Tobias by her side.
This made Seraphina almost choke thanks to the chuckle that suddenly burst out of her as she recalled her suggestion to get married to Shawn instead earlier today.
If things had gone according to her plan, it would have been Shawn who was standing by her side at this moment.
However, fate had other plans for them as she had ended up becoming his sister-in-law instead.
Though this did not stop her from raising her brow at him as she tilted her head, giving him an innocent smile when she saw him glaring at her.
Shawn scoffed when she pretended to be innocent after laughing at him only seconds ago but could not voice out his grievances before their Grandmother, who had no idea what had taken place earlier today.
It was not just Grandmother who was unaware of what this silent interaction, taking place between Seraphina and Shawn, was all about.
Tobias was equally in the dark about what had made Shawn glare at his bride who was doing her best to hold in her laughter.
After all, Seraphina had skipped mentioning the part where she had suggested to get married to Shawn instead while they were sharing information on their drive to the hotel.
Noticing his curious gaze, she leaned closer to him and whispered in his ear, explaining why Shawn looked so annoyed at this moment.
'She wanted to marry Shawnie?' He turned to look at her with a frown as his brain brought up an image of the two walking down the aisle while holding hands.
For some reason, this image irked him and he quickly tossed it aside.
"He's two years younger than you." He reminded Seraphina that she was older than Shawn and he only saw her as an older sister.
He was kind enough to explain to his bride that Shawn would not be interested in marrying her but found her looking at him as though he was an idiot.
"So?" She rolled her eyes as she knew way too many couples where the woman was older than the man.
Just as he was about to explain why this age difference was not suitable, their attention was diverted toward Grandmother, who started coughing uncontrollably.
All other thoughts soon vanished from their minds as they rushed towards her and hurried her off the stage.
Thanks to this chaos, no one noticed the younger brother's clenched fists after witnessing the married couple happily whispering amongs themselves.
Coming back to his senses, he called the doctor present on standby and asked him to check on their Grandmother, who was now gasping for breath.
