Chapter 10 - The Banquet

"We should talk"

Seraphina's words caught his attention and Tobias nodded as they had only been able to recall how they had ended up getting married during their trip to the hotel.

They had not gotten the chance to discuss how they would handle everything going forward.

It was obvious that neither of them had planned for things to go the way they had today.

Therefore, after everything that had already taken place, they could only work out how they would deal with what was to come next as changing the past was not something they were capable of doing

"Let's end the reception sooner." Seraphina suggested as she found it unnecessary to continue with the wedding festivities for the entire night as was the norm in their families.

She was not the bride he had intended to take so she was sure that Tobias would feel uncomfortable completing the banquet activities with her.

They would have to greet the guests, cut the cake, have the first dance, and then came the time for the speeches from both sides and finally, the dinner.

While Seraphina was willing to take part in what was unavoidable, she wished to skip the activities which seemed unnecessary for them.

Looking at Tobias, she waited to see what he had to say about her suggestion.

The man, whose blonde hair was styled by the people Theresa had brought, now sat on the couch opposite her as he mulled over what she had just said.

It was true that he had come to terms with how his bride had changed, however, this did not mean that he was comfortable with going through the events planned for the night with her.

Therefore, he was glad she had made this suggestion as he did not know how to bring this topic up.

Earlier, when he had gone to wash his face, he had thought of the speech he had written and the song he had selected for his first dance with Selene.

He could not bring himself to use either of them for Seraphina.

Hence, he was wondering how he could skip them and was pleasantly surprised when she had made the suggestion herself.

'She also was an unwilling participant...' He reminded himself that he wasn't the only one who was unhappy with the arrangements made by his mother.

Hearing Seraphina's suggestion, he felt that he had found a comrade who understood his situation and a wave of gratitude washed over him.

If it had been someone else, they might have forced him to go through with it despite his obvious discomfort.

Therefore, at this moment, he was grateful that the person whom his mother had chosen to become his wife was none other than his best friend.

Unaware of the thoughts in his head, when Seraphina saw the relief on his face, she was confident that he would agree with her suggestion.

'They won't know if we hurry back here!' She sighed when her plan to avoid as many people as she could had finally been accepted by the man with a nod.

Having reached a consensus, the new couple decided that it was time to head down to the reception hall where the guests would be waiting for their arrival.

Once again, Tobias, being a gentleman, lead his bride towards the hall and after their arrival was announced, the two walked into the hall together, hand in hand.

The orchestra played a soothing tune while the two walked towards the stage.

As the wedding was rushed and keeping Grandmother's health in mind, the Rion family had only invited a few close relatives and business partners.

Now, as Selene's guests had disappeared and Seraphina had no guests of her own, the banquet hall, which should have been packed with guests, was sparsely populated.

Noticing the lack of a few people she was worried about, Seraphina once again sighed in relief.

The couple soon stepped onto the stage where Tobias' family was already waiting for them.

Seraphina also found her newly found Godfather standing on the stage with them.

He smiled and waved at her when their eyes met and she could not help but smile back at him.

At this point, the MC would introduce the new bride and groom, followed by the family members but Seraphina had requested that they skip this part since most of the guests present already knew them personally.

While Theresa felt that this request was odd, thinking of what she had requested of the youngster, she chose to concede and they successfully skipped their introductions.

Since Grandmother was waiting, Theresa ordered for the cake to be brought up and soon a three-tier cake was rolled onto the stage.

Without wasting much time, the couple cut the cake and the two did not find it difficult to feed each other the cake.

Having grown up together and with their birthdays just a month apart, Tobias and Seraphina often cut cakes together from a young age.

Therefore, neither of them felt strange or uncomfortable doing so once again despite their lack of interaction in the last few years as they fed each other with practiced ease.

Tobias even picked the cherry out of the cake since Seraphina disliked any fruit on her cake.

Whereas, Seraphina scraped out the frosting from the piece she fed Tobias, who did not have a sweet tooth since he was a child.

They even fed a piece to each of the family members present on the stage with them which they accepted happily.

If anyone had observed their interaction keenly, they would have noticed that rather than a wedding cake being cut by a couple, it appeared as though a couple of kids had cut their birthday cake together.

However, the guests were excited to see how the couple silently catered to each other's preferences and some older women could not help but coo in awe of the connection between the two newlyweds.

Unfortunately, what they failed to notice was that the frosting Seraphina had scraped from Tobias' piece was added to the cake she fed Shawn, his younger brother, who had the sweetest tooth she had known any man to have.

This was muscle memory for the three children who had grown up together, however, most of the guests present had no clue and praised the interaction between the couple instead.

Not knowing the thoughts running through the guests' heads, Seraphina turned to the man who had become her Godfather today.

She picked up a piece of cake and held it up to him, watching as he smiled before accepting it.

In return, he pulled out a black bank card and placed it in her palm, chuckling when he saw her dumbfounded look.

"You have your father's eyes." He mentioned before patting her head, once again making her eyes widen in surprise.

However, before she could ask how he knew her father, someone walked up to them, interrupting their conversation.

"Why did no one tell me that Toby was marrying Sephy!" An old but gentle voice complained, bringing their attention to the person who had appeared next to them.
