Chapter 18 - Nether Spears Magic

The Demon King's presence emanating from William made the demon wolf's entire body unable to move. It was extremely difficult for her to even turn her head to look at him now.

At this moment, this demon wolf had only one thought in her heart: It's over. I'm going to die here, probably fed as fertilizer to those seemingly ordinary but monstrous flowers.

Remembering the death of those magical beasts moments ago, the demon wolf trembled with fear. She had to find a way to keep herself alive, no matter the cost!

"I... I surrender."

William felt quite disappointed hearing her surrender so hastily. He'd originally hoped her temperament would be a bit more difficult, at least it would provide some entertainment for his recent monotonous days. But now that she'd surrendered so easily, his fun was reduced by half.

Looking at the female demon wolf lying on the ground not daring to move, William withdrew his oppressive aura and said lightly, "Get up from the ground. It's a shame you surrendered so quickly. I haven't had enough fun yet. After you come back with me, tell me the details of your demon wolf clan. If you speak well, you won't need to die."

It was self-evident what would happen having two races with similar bloodlines in one territory. William simply wanted to extract information about the other race's strength and important defensive measures from this demon wolf who'd immediately disarmed and surrendered, as well as their preparations over the years.

"Yes, yes... Lord Demon King, I will definitely tell you everything I know." The demon wolf forced an awkward smile.

She spoke while struggling to rise from the ground. After confirming the sensation had returned to her limbs, without saying another word, she immediately grabbed dirt and sediment from the ground and turned to throw it at William's face.

Then she used lupine agility to sprint far into the forest in an instant, her powerful legs carrying her in desperate bounds.

She was confident that as long as she entered the forest depths, this demon king would never find her. The afternoon sun was still high, casting dappled shadows through the canopy forest, perfect cover for her gray fur as long as she hid well enough.

So, as long as she could reach that place!

However, she didn't know that William, behind her, was currently watching her back with interest, casually brushing the dirt off his face. Clearly, the flying sand and stones just now had no impact on him whatsoever.

"Isn't this much more interesting? Seems to add a lot of entertainment for me."

William's eyes glowed with dark energy as he raised his right hand. Nether energy condensed in his palm, forming into a lance of solidified death energy. Purple-black lightning crackled along its length, and the air around it distorted from the concentrated power.

"Let's see how far you can run, wolf-chan!" William called out as he hurled the Nether Spear ahead of her path.

*BOOM!*

The spear struck a massive oak tree directly in the demon wolf's path. The ancient trunk exploded in a shower of splinters and dark flames. The tree groaned and toppled sideways, crashing through three other trees and sending birds scattering in panic. A crater five meters wide smoldered where the spear had hit, the edges corroding from residual nether energy.

The demon wolf skidded to a halt, ears flat. "Damn it!"

She veered sharply left, and her body began to glow with a silver-white aura that pulsed with power. Her speed suddenly doubled, leaving deep claw marks in the ground with each step.

"Oh? So you have some tricks?" William's lips curved into an interested smile. "Good! Don't disappoint me now!"

He formed two more Nether Spears simultaneously, one in each hand. The death energy pulsed hungrily, and small plants nearby withered from proximity alone.

William threw both spears in rapid succession, each one leaving a trail of corrupting energy in the air.

The first spear screamed through the forest like a rocket. The demon wolf jumped onto a boulder and kicked off just as the spear obliterated the rock behind her. The explosion sent chunks of stone flying in all directions, one piece smashing through a nearby tree trunk completely.

"Too slow!" she snarled over her shoulder.

But the second spear was already there. She twisted desperately mid-air, and it grazed her right shoulder, burning through fur and flesh with a sizzling sound. She yelped in pain and tumbled across the ground, plowing a trench through the forest ground.

"Argh! You bastard!" The demon wolf scrambled to her feet, blood dripping down her leg.

She planted her paws and opened her jaws wide. Silver-white energy gathered in her throat, condensing into three crescent-shaped projectiles. "Try dodging these!"

She released them in quick succession, each one spinning through the air with a high-pitched whistle.

William sidestepped the first crescent, and it continued to slice through five trees in a row. Each tree fell with tremendous crashes, its cut surfaces perfectly smooth. The second crescent he blocked by manifesting a small Nether Spear, the collision creating a shockwave that shattered nearby branches.

But the third crescent grazed his left arm, cutting a shallow but burning line across his skin.

William glanced at the wound with a smile, "Not bad! You actually managed to hit me!"

William channeled more Mana, creating a barrage of eight smaller Nether Spears. The air crackled as they formed, frost spreading across nearby leaves despite the warm afternoon sun.

"Now it's my turn again!" William hurled them like a volley of dark arrows.

The demon wolf's eyes widened. "Shit, shit, shit!"

She released a pulse of silver energy outward, creating a translucent barrier around her body. The first three spears shattered against it with explosive impacts that cratered the ground. Dirt and rocks flew everywhere, embedding themselves in nearby tree bark.

But the remaining five spears pierced through the weakening barrier. Four struck her body, two in her hind leg, one in her side, and one in her shoulder. The last one she barely dodged by throwing herself sideways into a tree trunk, which cracked from the impact.

"AWOOO!" She howled in pain, blood staining her gray fur. The wounds from the nether spear continued to burn, preventing quick healing.

"What's wrong? Already tired?" William asked mockingly, walking forward with measured steps. "I thought demon wolves were supposed to be fierce hunters."

"Shut... up!" The demon wolf's body suddenly erupted with intense crimson light. Her muscles bulged, her eyes turned bloodshot, and steam rose from her body in visible waves. The temperature around her spiked, causing nearby grass to wither and brown.

"Oh? A desperation technique?" William's expression became more interested. "Now we're getting somewhere!"

The demon wolf launched herself at a thick pine tree with monstrous force. The entire trunk exploded into splinters on impact. Using the destruction as a springboard, she rebounded toward William at blinding speed, her claws extended and wreathed in crackling crimson energy.

"DIE!"
