Chapter 122: Clash of Lightning and Beasts
Ai and Killer Bee, accompanied by a perceptive Cloud-nin scout, had cornered a seven-man Konoha squad. The Konoha shinobi were tense, their faces pale. They knew the reputation of the two figures before them.
"Idiot, moron, you've successfully met Konoha's wimps!" Killer Bee rapped, his bizarre rhymes cutting through the tense air.
Ai stepped forward, his presence a wave of palpable killing intent. The scout remained perched on a tree trunk, observing, not yet committed to the fight.
The Konoha team's leader swallowed hard. "Blue Lightning and Killer Bee... It's going to be a tough battle!"
Their resolve was for retreat, not victory. They had heard the reports: this duo had recently annihilated a five-man Konoha team led by two Jounin.
"At twelve o'clock! A single shinobi, approaching at high speed!" the sensory-nin shouted in warning.
No sooner had the words left his mouth than a streak of lightning shot towards Ai and Bee.
"Supersonic Vibration Slash!" Killer Bee roared, infusing his sword with crackling lightning chakra, granting it a piercing, high-frequency vibration. He brought the blade up just in time to block the incoming strike. The force of the impact sent him skidding back several steps.
"Hell Stab!" Ai's hand, sheathed in concentrated lightning, chopped at the blur of motion. But the attacker was already gone, having used a Body Flicker to reappear a short distance away.
The sensory-nin's voice was now laced with fear. "Black hair... Sharingan... and that speed... It's the Blood-Eyed Shura! We should retreat!"
Ai and Bee, however, stood their ground. Ai looked at Kagenori, a fierce competitive fire igniting in his eyes. "So this is the one who forced our forces to issue a retreat-on-sight order?"
Kagenori regarded them with a cool, analytical gaze. "Long time no see, A, son of the Third. And Killer Bee, the new Eight-Tails vessel."
Hearing Bee's identity confirmed, the Konoha ninjas gasped. A Jinchuriki!
Ai's brow furrowed. "Have we met?"
"It's irrelevant," Kagenori dismissed, his tone flat. "My mission is to eliminate you both here."
Killer Bee pointed his sword. "With me and my bro, victory's a guarantee, you idiot! Moron!"
The Konoha squad stepped forward. "Lord Kagenori! We'll assist you!"
Kagenori didn't even glance back, his voice a whip-crack of cold authority. "Get out of my way. Don't interfere."
The Konoha ninjas recoiled, stung by the harshness. But they knew his reputation for solitary, ruthless efficiency. They withdrew to a safe distance, ready to observe—or flee.
Kagenori's three-tomoe Sharingan activated, spinning lazily as he beckoned with his fingers. "Well? Come at me. Both of you."
Ai's body erupted in a shroud of brilliant blue lightning. Lightning Release Chakra Mode. He became a bolt of living lightning, closing the distance in an eyeblink, his left fist aimed like a piston at Kagenori's face.
A genuine, excited smile touched Kagenori's lips. Faster. He's even faster than two years ago. His speed now rivaled Kagenori's own Thunderclap and Flash.
With an economy of motion that was almost insulting, Kagenori took a single, small step to the left. Ai's fist whistled through empty air.
Ai's eyes widened in shock. He had dodged it? At that speed?
"Thunder Breathing, Fifth Form: Heat Lightning."
Kagenori became the epicenter of a storm of lightning-fast slashes, lashing out in every direction. The attacks were about to converge on Ai when a thick octopus tentacle wrapped around him, yanking him to safety and taking the brunt of the slashes.
"Sorry, Bee! You okay?" Ai called out as he regained his footing.
"All good, bro!"
They stared at Kagenori, all previous arrogance replaced by grim respect. The rumors were true: extreme speed, monstrous swordsmanship, and now, a terrifyingly precise defense.
"Bee, this is serious. We fight together. Don't look into his eyes—the Sharingan ensnares the mind."
"Relax, bro! Jinchuriki's got immunity to that stuff! You watch yourself!"
Ai allowed himself a grim smile. Of course. With Bee immune to genjutsu, he could focus entirely on the physical battle.
"Let's go, Bee!"
"Right behind you, bro!"
They charged in unison, a perfect tandem of raw power and bestial might.
Kagenori's posture lowered, a spring coiling. "Thunder Breathing, Third Form: Distant Thunder."
He became a whirlwind, circling Killer Bee at blinding speed, leaving a trailing wave of lightning in his wake that cut Bee off from Ai. In the heart of his own technique, Kagenori's hands flashed through seals.
"Fire Release: Great Fire Annihilation!"
A tsunami of flame erupted from his mouth, engulfing the space where Bee was trapped. Bee reacted instantly, his body cocooned in protective octopus limbs.
"Lightning Release: Lariat!"
Ai, a blue comet of power, smashed through the residual lightning wave, his charged arm aiming to clothesline Kagenori. Kagenori was forced to abort his fire technique, leaping back as his hands formed another set of seals, slamming them into the ground.
"Earth Release: Hiding in Rock Technique!"
The earth beneath Ai's feet turned to liquid mud, a quagmire seeking to swallow him whole. Without pausing, Kagenori performed another seal.
"Multiple Snake Hands!"
A torrent of venomous snakes erupted from his sleeves, streaking towards the immobilized Ai.
"Bro!" Bee burst from the dying flames, an octopus tentacle whipping out to smash the snakes aside before hauling Ai free from the mud.
Back to back, covered in muck and brimming with renewed fury, the two brothers faced Kagenori again. The preliminary skirmish was over. The true battle was about to begin.
