Chapter 4 - inside outside

"As a child, I often mused about what it would be like if the objects, machines and toys in my surroundings could speak.

I envisioned it as a delightful experience to converse with something inanimate and hear its story.

As a child ,I always used to make my toys fight—as if they were alive.

If they were alive, they would probably swear at me and run to hit me, just like this phone is swearing at me now.

Now that it does possess the ability to speak, it has become plagued by poor language, just as I am.

Furthermore, it has inherited my negative

traits.

Its manner of speaking and mine were indistinguishable.

There was not much difference between its words or thoughts and mine.

"My eyes started to open, and I heard him yelling on me.

I wanted respect from him.

"But the moment someone knows you inside out—every flaw and truth—they stop respecting you and start hurling insults."

I tried to stand, but I was still dizzy. I steadied myself by leaning on the table—the chair was practically 'spinning' on its own, and I couldn't reach another one. I finished the water in the glass and took a long, deep breath.

The chair was still doing its job. Knocking the door continuesly.

But the door was quite sturdy (or very solid).

It had a light wood grain finish and a metal pull handle.

The door opened from the left.

Electrical outlets and light switches were visible on the wall to the right of the door, and there was a fingerprint sensor to open it.

In the true sense it was not possible for a chair to break that door.

Not even it dreams.

But the question was, why was the door refusing to open?

I had a feeling the door had some sort of grievance, so I used my phone to ask it why it wasn't opening. I didn't catch what it said.

"I don't know," it (mobile) snapped back. But I had a hunch it was just using that anger to conceal some deeper, unwanted feelings.

I told the phone that I would have to call someone to open the door from the outside.

The phone refused, saying, "The door won't open for anyone."

"It won't open now," it stated.

I asked, "Why?"

"I can't tell you," it replied.

I took a deep breath and sat down on the floor.

By now, I was exhausted and starting to feel hungry.

Everyone must be having lunch right now.

I let my thoughts drift all the way to the canteen.

I could almost smell the food. Today was Saturday, the day they made special meals, but there were only 15 minutes left before lunch was over.

I looked at the clock.

I took another deep breath and said, "Everyone else is outside, and I'm stuck inside."
