Chapter 12 - Monster of Unwritten Destinies

The entire scenery was frozen in Vesh's eyes.

Faust was still smiling, his hand paused in waving.

Arven's head was slightly tilted, looking back with a small smirk.

Misha looked guilty, fearful, and helpless.

But Vesh could only see red and only hear their voices.

Revi and Veron are calling him Master.

Miru is calling him Uncle Vesh.

And now, they lay in a puddle of blood with holes in their bodies.

The scene resumed with a change.

Vesh, bound by flaming chains, burst like a bomb and vanished from everyone's view.

Arven and Misha were slightly blown away.

"Huh? Where did he go?" Arven frowned as he looked around, expanding his senses and spreading flaming motes.

Faust also saw with his own eyes how Vesh disappeared and frowned.

"What's going on?"

Faust arrived beside Arven. "I don't sense him anywhere."

"He said he was not a human, but a monster." Arven looked at Faust. "We should assume he got away."

"And he will come for us." Faust chuckled. "Well, one more enemy on the list."

"This one is strange, but weak nonetheless." Arven shook his head. "I'm going back with her. You can search for him if you want to."

"I'll take a look around." Faust nodded and left, searching around for Vesh.

But Vesh is there.

He was there, next to Veron, Revi, and Miru.

His eyes stared at them.

'No…don't.'

The emotions he felt conflicting with his racial talent.

He didn't want to forget!

An intense rage was bubbling within as he was on the verge of forgetting.

Losing all forms, his memories were disappearing, but he didn't want to forget!

What was the point if he forgot!?

If that happened, he would forget these pieces of trash and wouldn't be able to kill them! He would forget Revi and Misha completely!

All he would remember is him appearing in the alley and talking with Veron to make him grab the knife. After that, blank.

He would not understand how he appeared here.

What he was doing.

What he planned to do.

That's why…he was resisting. He was staring at the dead bodies as his hundreds of eyes dropped invisible tears.

But it was happening.

'Don't… take them…'

He reached for their bodies, but his arms dissolved into mist. He was Formless.

He tried to speak, but the wind stole the words before they existed.

He tried to cry, but even grief had no shape inside a formless collapse.

'DON'T FORGET!'

He felt it.

The erasure.

The creeping emptiness.

His consciousness splintered.

Veron's grateful smile and eyes filled with fear as well as determination snapped.

Revi's timid thank-you, her gentle eyes, flashed and vanished.

Misha's hopeful, cheerful face…gone.

'NO! NOOOOO!'

'COME BACK!'

The faces appeared again due to his sheer will, his burning and stubborn desire.

He wanted to change destinies! And he failed in his very first attempt!

'COME BACK!'

But not anymore!

In this new life, he will start by changing his own destiny first.

'I WILL NOT FORGET!'

And…something snapped, cracked, and shattered.

Not in the world. Not in the air.

But within Vesh.

A pale ripple of white and gray light expanded from Vesh, painting the whole world in eyes with chrono gray…except for one place.

The place where Veron, Miru, and Revi lie. There, golden threads, beautiful and warm, played through them, taking shapes of them, their memories.

The void collapsed.

Light rushed in as Vesh saw Veron, Revi, Miru, and the two wolf cubs appearing in golden avatars, smiling at him.

Vesh stretched his hand. The moment he touched them, all of them turned into a beautiful stream and entered within him.

[ You have acquired 5 Destiny Echoes. ]

"I remember everything," Vesh muttered. Grief permeated him, and sadness drowned him. At the same time, like an erupting volcano, his rage also surged.

At the enemy, and at himself.

He may have been responsible for saving that family at first.

But he was also responsible for their deaths.

However, he will keep them alive within him.

And unfold their unwritten destinies.

'Thank you.' Vesh's eyes reflected the avatars of Veron and others. 'I will forever hold the regret of failing to save you.'

Vesh's eyes burned with his undulated will that spoke of his utmost desire.

'And I will not stop until I carve the reality with my hands and welcome you into the world of living.'

His eyes landed on it, and its information expanded in his conciousness, manifesting a window.
