Selina stopped to look at the thick web coverage on the wall. Cobwebs weren't something unique to look at but these cobwebs were unusually large.
It spanned from the top of the sewer all the way to the bottom. Selina had never seen any cobweb that big.
She reached her hand out to touch the web. It vibrated intensely, releasing a high-pitched ringing noise.
Selina shuddered and looked around.
"Did I do something wrong?" Selina mumbled.
Mater scanned the deep sewage area with his red Chaos Eyes. He couldn't find anything unusual about it.
"No. You didn't. But I suspect these cobwebs belong to something far more dangerous than what we encountered before." Mater meowed.
He jumped onto the Dark Grimoire and controlled it to fly around. Mater noticed that the cobwebs on the wall were connected to each other by thin strands.
Mater approached one of them and used [Desperation Scream] to sever one of the strands. The ringing noise stopped.
Silence took hold of the sewer for a few seconds.
Then suddenly, the entire place shook.
Selina gasped.
"Get out of here, Selina." Mater hissed. His antagonistic noise was enough to tell Selina to go away.
"I wait for you at the entrance!" Selina darted away without looking back.
Mater floated on his book, looking to the deep dark tunnel of the sewer. At the end of the tunnel, three pairs of eyes were closing in on him.
A big spider with sharp thin legs and gray body dashed to Mater. Its gigantic body was illuminated whenever it passed by the light shining down from the vents above.
Mater opened his mouth.
"First time seeing this kind of creature. It is a creature of Chaos for sure. But it isn't a wraith. I wonder what it actually is…"
The black cat released two consecutive purple spheres and shot at the giant spider.
The first one hit the face of the spider, destroying one of its six eyes. The second one smacked onto its spiky leg, blowing it clean off.
The spider shrieked in pain. It writhed in place for a few seconds before rushing at Mater once again.
"Chains of Shadow!" Mater meowed.
Black chains reached out from the darkness of the tunnel and held the spider in place. Because of its big body, the chains barely restrained it.
Mater used this opportunity to release two more purple spheres, aiming at its eyes.
"Thankfully Nether Shot can shoot twice and has a very low cool-down!"
The Nether Sphere blasted two of its remaining five eyes. Dark blood spilled out of its eyesockets.
Chains of Shadow could restrain any creature for 12 seconds. The bloodwraith had resistance so it was held for only six. The gray spider was too big for the spell so it was also able to break free early.
After 8 seconds, the gray spider broke the chains. However, Mater was able to blast the spider with four additional Nether Spheres in that time.
One of them hit the fourth eye, leaving only two of the spider's eyes functional. The remaining three smack on its body and dented its hard armor on the outside.
Mater didn't hesitate and backed off quickly. He was a long range mage at the time and did not have his Demonic Arsenal. Keeping distance was key to his combat.
The spider was faster than Mater's flying speed. It quickly closed the distance.
The gray spider lifted one of its spiky legs and lunged at Mater when it was close enough.
Mater rolled in the air, dodging its spiky leg. He then turned his head back and shot two more Nether Spheres at the spider.
One was able to hit one of its two remaining eyes. The second slipped away and hit the ceiling of the tunnel.
With the spider on the move, it was much harder to aim.
"Tch!" Mater meowed.
The spider lifted both of its two front legs and repeatedly slammed them forward, hoping to reach Mater.
The black cat used [Desperation Scream], pushing both the legs backwards five meters. The spider temporarily froze because of the push-back, allowing Mater to extend the distance.
"Time's up!"
[Chains of Shadow] had completed its cool-down and Mater immediately used it. Black chains reached out and restrained the spider.
Mater fired his Nether Shot as much as he could, aiming at the spider's head. He wanted to blind it completely.
He successfully destroyed its one last eye. The remaining five Nether Spheres bruised the spider's squishy head.
Without its vision, the spider swung its legs randomly at the surroundings. But it was unable to attack Mater precisely.
When the black chains disappeared, the spider rushed forward blindly, intending to crush the small creature that had been bothering it.
Mater flew up high and slipped through the small crack between the ceiling and the spider.
When the spider passed under Mater, he released a scream, pushing it down to the stream of waste beneath.
The spider shrieked louder, swung its legs upward. But Mater had already gone far away.
The black cat continued to bombard the spider with Nether Shot. Whenever it tried to rush at him, the cat slipped over it and released another Desperation Scream.
In the end, when Chains of Shadow was once again available, Mater restrained the spider then flew closer to its head.
The spider was covered in its own black blood. Its head was smacked to the point of unrecognizable.
"Nighty night!"
Mater used Desperation Scream to push it downward then immediately followed with the Nether Shot.
The two Nether Spheres broke through the surface of its squishy head and rammed into the spider's brain inside.
The giant gray spider slumped down to the sewage drain. Its body was too big to be washed away.
Mater let out a heavy breath.
"This thing is huge. But it is simply a mindless beast. I wonder if it has any Chaos inside it?"
Mater's eyes flashed red. He scanned the body of the dead spider.
"Oh?"
Four small red stones lit up inside the spider. The Chaos Eyes were able to spot them.
The stones lay in the abdomen of the spider. Mater used the Nether Sphere to dig out the flesh of the creature and took out the Stones.
"Haha. Another 200 kilometers! This trip is actually worth it!"
