Chapter 5 - CHAPTER FIVE

 Lines Blur

 ---

Adrian hadn't intended to stay late again, but here he was, reviewing slides with Bella for the client presentation tomorrow. The office was quiet now, only the hum of the air conditioning and the occasional click of keys filling the space.

Bella leaned over the table to adjust a chart. Their arms brushed again, slightly firmer this time. Adrian felt the spark immediately, a shiver that he couldn't hide even if he tried. She didn't pull away. Instead, she paused, letting her hand linger near his, her green eyes glinting with amusement.

"You're distracting," she said softly, voice low enough that he had to lean in slightly to hear.

"I could say the same about you," he replied, his own voice calm but deliberate.

Her laugh was quiet, teasing, like a secret only he was allowed to share. "You're bold," she said. "I like that."

They moved back to their laptops, but the playful tension didn't leave. Adrian caught her smirking at him several times, and each glance was a challenge. He found himself leaning closer under the pretense of checking slides, his shoulder brushing hers, heart racing at the contact.

"So," she said suddenly, "if we win this client, do I get all the credit?" she asked

He looked up, meeting her gaze. "Depends. Do you want it all?"

Her smirk widened, almost predatory in its precision. "Maybe. But I might let you share a little… if you earn it."

Adrian felt a thrill at the words, a pull that was both dangerous and irresistible. Her dominance was intoxicating, and the challenge was clear: he wanted to rise to it, wanted her approval more than he wanted to admit.

He knew he was falling in love with her too fast and it feels like a dangerous territory.

As they wrapped up the slides, Bella leaned back, stretching. "You're good," she said and better than I expected. But remember, the real test is tomorrow. I'll be watching you."

"I'll be ready," Adrian replied, surprising himself with the boldness in his voice.

Her eyes softened for a fleeting second, revealing a vulnerability that made her seem human beneath the aura of control. Then just as quickly, the moment was gone, replaced by the confident, teasing woman he had been drawn to from the start.

"You might be under my spell already," she murmured as she packed her things, glancing at him one last time before leaving the office.

Adrian stayed behind, staring at the empty chair across from him, heart pounding, mind racing. He didn't know how he had fallen so completely into her orbit so quickly but he knew this, he wanted more every challenge, every spark, every moment she had to offer.

And he was ready to see where it would take him.

Bella is his to love, but is she willing to be loved? he th

ought. he knows she is a hard nut to crack, and he is willing to get to her.
